I am no coach but what could be the problem this year as opposed to the end of last year is changing the game plan to combat the "zones", the "Cluster" etc, it may just be too hard for our players.

Go back to the basics and play to your strengths?

Its hard to run into space when their is no space because the ball is held up for so long with pissy little cheap kicks while the other team floods your forward line.
Do you understand.
Somehow I doubt it

agree, wallace should put it to rest and make the loss to melbourne "clusters" last stand.

OUT : N Brown , T Simmonds.

Got to drop the senior blokes who are not preforming.

Its time to play the kids.

give connors another go, jackson tries as hard as anyone and for that shouldnt be dropped because lets face it id rather see jackson throwing his body around then bowden skipping through the park without a worry in the world.

graham is getting better with every game, id rather him and patto then simmonds, they both work hard and at the moment thats all we can ask for.

nahas showed some good signs, got some confidence out of today.

collins is a poor kick but with a few games i think he will be a decent player, needs to improve his intencity.

brown and reidwolt are two of our most talented foward but they just didnt work hard enough.

taking thursfield out of the backline has disrupted the ryhthm, worse decision by wallace.

however im glad rance has been given a go and if we drop him it will just add to my frustrations with wallace.

mcmahon was far from our worst and deserved his game this week, but lets face it why play him when he wont win us a premiership.

white had a bady day but he is another player that works hard and doesnt deserve to be dropped after one game alone.

hislop was invisible.

get brown and simmonds out for a start FFS!

the rest decide in the cold hard light of day tomorrow

Out: Hislop, White/McMahon

In: Coughlan, Thursfield

Changing the team too much is probably going to have a neg effect. White is a good player but had a shocker against Melbourne and I want to see more of Connors. Need Thursfield back simply for his good disposal and stability. I say just chuck Coughlan in. Will give the supporters some hope and need to trust that he can rise for the occassion or atleast be serviceable, more than what some others are doing.

In addition
Mcmahon>Tambling...enough said,
I think the team is missing Kane Johnson (everyone thinks he's s**t, but atleast his disposal is good and he did lead the team for a reason).
In addition Nahas and Rance...are all that is keeping me from crying myself to sleep at night...
And Brown struggled because Frawley matched up brilliantly on him - not worth a drop.

It doesn'tmatter who is in or out. we are just no good. Cousins sin't able tosave us. The man's hammy will go after 20 mins.

Root and branch reform needed. Start from scratch. The over 30s like Bowden and Brown out out out. Accept we are uncompetitive this year. Play the kids. Get them experience. I am totally demoralised and don't really care at the moment who he picks. They are all just going through the motions.

Is this game a "must win" or is the season seriously gone? Are we just going to the game hoping to not get flogged?

If we win this game, will that give us a faint hope at the 8? Especially if we got a few on the trot after it.

I will watch with interest, because I really can't comprehend the season being over this early on. We are better than what we are playing I feel, even though I think the list has been poorly managed.

Changes

In: Thompson, Tambling, Couglhan
Out: Hislop, Nahas (he's not the answer) and take your pick at the third. Connors needs another crack so how about an under-performing senior player like Tuck? Couglhan gives us the in and under anyway. Also McMahon or even Reiwoldt would be worthy of the axe.

No point dropping Simmonds and Brown they are two of our most important players. Not unless the club decides to start looking long term again. If thats the case a genuine pruning should commence.

The upcoming compromised drafts will hurt clubs like us, but really we shouldn't be in a position where we need good draft picks that badly.

Im looking forward to getting Cotchin, Cousins, Couglhan and Johnson back. Although the season really is over with a loss this weekend so it will be too little too late.

B: L.Fowler, D.Clay, R.Hart
HB: M.Keane, F.Bourke, R.Mcghie
C: B.Wood, I.Stewart, W.Walsh
HF: K.Sheedy, R.Hart, S.Rae
F: M.Green, N.Balme, N.Carter
R: B.Roberts, P.Sproule, K.Bartlett

Interchange Cotchin, Foley, Newman, M.Richardson

If only this was possible

Must win game? Oh Ferfexache give me strength.

Kurtis it is that kind of frankly blind failure to realise just haw awfully shit Richmond is that allows the farce keep going. We are 16th because we are the worst team in the country. We are , to use the technical term, pure crap.

Sack the coach, apologise to the fans, ask for their understanding as the younger players are pushed front and centre and start planning the clearout.

geez the news will be all over us if we decide to drop these two.

Not sure if the news could be any more over us anyway...

I was going to post this in last weeks "Changes V's Melbourne" thread but hell, I don't always post everything that comes to mind...

I was worried about us dropping Schulz and not elevating a replacement marking foward target.
Sure Schulz had a poor game against The Dogs but FFS so did 90% of our squad! If he really did deserve the punt, (and I'm not sure that he did) then we needed to bring in a Hughes (not that he deserves it yet) or a Post or at least some other tall to provide an alternative forward target.

Riewoldt is not in great form and so without an option we ended up playing Richo essentially at FF all day...

FFS HELLO!!!!! He almost won a Brownlow & we played much better footy last year with Richo in the midfield and other options up forward!

This selection last week I just could not understand & sure enough, yesterday when we were at least trying to make some sort of a surge late in the game it again became "kick it to Richo" time and lets face it... he is not all that reliable in front as we again witnessed...

We need to get someone back into the forward 50 as an alternative target to Richo, to straighten us up & to allow Jack to continue his development... he just is not up to being our main offensive target at the moment.

I posted last week that I believe Simmonds has well and truly lost it... I feel even more so after yesterday.
Melbourne's rucks are not exactly A grade but Snake again looked like he should be playing Masters AFL. I am happier with Gus and Patto should come in as he gives us more around the ground and competes better in the ruck anyway.

Even though Nth Melbourne next week will kill us in the ruck, I would punt Simmo now...

N. Brown should also go.
The fact that he was toweled up by "a Frawley" made me laugh.
Looks badly out of touch & a game like yesterdays should have been the one where he turns it on & kicks 4 or 5.

Hislop was poor..

Out of this wreckage I would:

Out's: - Simmonds, Brown & Hislop
In's: - Pattison, Coughlan & ????????????????????????????

?????????????? = a taller marking forward target
Options:
Hughes - straight from Coburg 2'nds to the seniors eh
Post - More a defender I hear & no senior experience
Putt - Has been playing on the wing & no senior experience
Gourdis - A rookie listed player, ie no senior experience
Vickery - Very green & young & no senior experience

Or

Schulz... I'm interested in hearing why he should not play...

Out- simmonds. Hislop white riewoldt
In - Schulz cousins coughlan pattison

I'd put cotchin in as soon as he's avaible look at yesty Joel bowden was the only guy who could hit a target by foot and he was the only guy who wsnt slipping or falling over under pressure it would be a waste playing cotch in the 2s

OUT:

McMahon - delist him or trade him to the GC. He is of NO value to us. I don't care if he played 'decent' today, he is a hack and is not up to AFL standard.

Simmonds - Needs a f*cking rocket up the arse.

Brown - See Simmonds.

Hislop - Went MIA for basically the whole game except first 10 mins.

IN:

Thomson - Been in good form and ffs give him a run already. Shows he can win his own pill and his hard at the footy.

Vickery - Let's give him some game time and let him have a few games under his belt. Can't do any worse than Simmonds, surely.

Coughlan - Has heart. Has courage. Has determination. I'm sure plenty of Richmond supports will flock to the game to see him play. Let's see if he still has it.

JON - Hopefully TW confuses him with McMahon and gives him a run instead.

People need to realise that Cotchin, Cousins or Raines aren't ready yet. No match fitness. Realistically there's only 3-4 guys you could bring in that have been perfoming well in the VFL.

Coughlan
Thomson
JON (:p)

I would first like to see these two back up their form before they get an instant recall, if Collins had to work for a game so do they.

Tambling
Schulz

I think Deledio, Riewoldt, Brown and Simmonds all need stints at Coburg until they sort themselves out.

Bring in Thomson, Schulz, Cotchin/Coughlan and Vickery. :thumbsu:

*Gold Star*

The most useless 40+ possession game I have ever seen.

*Didn't go*.

Far too obvious you and Coughlan didn't attend the match.

I'd go:
OUT: Brown, Simmonds, McMahon, Hislop, Conners, ????
IN: Pattison, Schulz, Tambling, Coughlan, Thomson, JON

Time to get serious. Get some of the guys with not much confidence out.

:confused:Sadly, you can't get away from the fact that those who put their hnads up most for a call-up were Schulz (six goals, Edwards and Tambling, but that's likely not the way we'd like to go. Would like to see them put together another, preferably two, solid performance in the twos to earn a recall.

I think it might be time to see if Coughlan still has what it takes and I think Thomson should get a call-up too
Fingers crossed Cousins may be ready.

And wouldn't mind Patto back in.

Connors deserves another crack - defeats the purpose!

Sadly - as I like the guy - Matthew White has to go back to Coburg for now. Far too many turnovers today.

For mine it's:

IN: THOMSON, COUGHLAN, PATTISON, COUSINS.
OUT: WHITE, SIMMONDS (it's time for a kick up the a**e), BROWN (see Simmonds), JACKSON.(only if Cousins is ready!!)
ON NOTICE: TUCK, JACKSON.
Exactly! What's the point in dropping Connors after one game??????? Seriously, those suggesting this have NFI. Kids like him need to be part of the side for good now. Drop Brown and give his spot in the starting 18 to Connors. This is the future.

In: Thomson, Coughlan, Cousins, Pattison
Out: Brown, Simmonds, Hislop, White

Simmonds is just about the worst ruckmen in the league at the minute.

McMahon the scapegoat again? McMahon wasn't bad enough to be dropped, wasn't greatly effective but there were plenty worse. He stays.
Cool head PHX, good.

I don't know who to drop. Everyone was shit, but no-one stands out as "drop me, drop me."

OUT - Brown, it must be done, should have been done after the round 14 Carlton game last year and about 3 times since as well.

Hislop - He'll be back, just needs some twos time.

IN - Coughlan (need him against North) and Thomson if fit.

No need to drop Connors or White.

Patto in for Simmonds could be a possibility if we're feeling fun. Patto and Gus against Hale, Macintosh and Petrie. Hmm.

You play Simmonds mostly in the forward 50m and you wonder why he didn't play well? You're crazy. Melbournes defence is easily our best section on the ground with plenty of options for simmonds.

If he played the whole match in the ruck, then he would have got 20 touches and flogged meesen around the ground..but for some reason Wallace thought he would try and exploit our defence even though we have Rivers (192cm), Frawley(193cm) and Martin (200cm) down there. ludicrous

Not a bad point ooooooooze, I think it's a good plan to get ruck time into Graham though. Is it just me or was Deledio disgraceful yesterday? High standards but when we know what he can do it's very frustrating.
