With respect, this is just wrong...on so many levels.
- McGinitty put the fear of God into an AFL player?? What? How? He is hard at it sure. But apart from say, our Jetta, there aren't too many players who would be scared of a bit of bruising. He certainly won't be scaring anyone with his skill level.
- In terms of pressure, Cripps offers just as much if not more.
- in terms of skill Cripps offers waaay more.
- Cripps is slightly out of form, but I didn't think he had a bad game. It's tough for small forwards when your big mates are marking everything coming I50. All you can do is apply pressure. Clear the space by providing leads that open up space, play your role in the defensive set ups and hope you snag a goal here or there. Tick. Tick. Tick and Tick.
- If McGinnity is who we consider to be our next best small forward that can help us win a GF, we are seriously F****d.
- I mean we have seen what Ginners offers. It is not much. Certainly no where near what Cripps offers (at his best). If we are to go down the path you suggest, I'd rather we tried players who haven't had a crack at it yet (or not much of it). Karpany?? Note, have no idea how he is going in WAFL/Reserves. Bennell?? Although we have tried him and he was a bit ho hum. Bit too fumbly and seems like his body plays quicker than his mind can keep up.
- Ginners also has a head like a three day punch drunk Irish beer hall bare knuckle brawler. My daughter's don't like him.
Please no McGinnity. Ever.

With McGinnity, it's not a simple black and white skillset comparison (I know I'm leaving myself open with that one, but take my point). When you look at the Hawthorn flag teams, in terms of physical presence, you've got Hodge, Lewis, Mitchell, Burgoyne, among others. When we played at Geelong a couple of weeks ago, we got pushed around by Selwood, Danger, these kind of guys, and we looked a bit like the u/13's playing the u/16's. I agree that Cripps isn't that far out of form, but if you look at that physical presence that you need to win grand finals, in our midfield/forward line, it's a bit light on in that department.
We've got Priddis, who doesn't have a malicious bone in his body, Shuey, Masten, Hutchings, Hill, Cripps and Le Cras, who all lack the presence of like an Embley or a Peter Wilson type. There's Yeo, but he hasn't been getting into it away from home. And it seemed quite evident in the GF last year when the Hawks took hold of the game.
Even a guy like Worsfold didn't actually do that much, but his presence in the team affects the overall vibe of it. That physicality is a subtle aspect, but if you look at successful teams in the past, it's a common thread. Plus they can always drop him back if he's really not fitting in, I don't think it should that big a deal to bring in and out a few players throughout the season.
