Changes Vs. Saints

In: Presti, O'bree (if fit)
Out: Reid, Johnson(inj)

If both arent fit
In: N Brown, Macarthy
Out: Reid, Johnson(inj)

Reid had better games than Maxwell, Toovey and Shaw (arguably Harry). He only got beaten two times that I can recall. One was just a super quick centre clearance where they hit Newton on the lead, very tough to defend. The second was caused by a horrible 3rd man up effort by Maxwell. They didn't go through him a whole heap, but towards the end of the match he was left deep in a few 1 vs 1's and did well. Was clean clearing the ball out too.

If Presti doesn't come up, he has to play. If Presti comes up, I would still like him to play. There will be a suitable match up for him against the Saints.
You serious i can recall 3-4 marking contests in which he far too easily got muscled out but the Melbourne player failed to mark it.

Why on earth do you want N Brown in over Reid?

Brown has not played a senior game other than a very forgettable performance against Riewoldt in the NAB cup. He apparently showed no form in the VFL, while Dawes, who will (surely!) come into the team this week, did.

Reid is the only player capable of matching Riewoldt for pace and height. He was one of our better players against Melbourne. If Presti does not come up, Reid is certainly our only option.

What is the point of calling up players lacking form and game time who are already failures at curbing Riewoldt? To bring Rusling into the side to play on Riewoldt would make as much sense. Rusling played FB for the VFL yesterday - his first full game - yet there are people suggesting him as an inclusion for next week in the forward line.

To drop Reid after one good game without a very good reason will do nothing for his confidence, Should he do OK, he is a possibility to play on Franklin the week after. N Brown and Presti have a poor record on Franklin, and both players would prefer playing closer to goal. Reid should not be omitted.

Revised changes:
In: Dawes, McCarthy, Presti
Out: Fraser, Johnson, Anthony
(L Brown to be 2nd ruck)

Tough this week. I like the idea of Reid matching up with Riewodlt and I Think a "tagger" like Barham or Buckley should come in for Johnson. Anthony has to go. O'Bree showed no form in Round 1 so I dont see why he's an automatic selection to return.

In Dawes Buckley
Out Anthony Johnson.

If Presti's fit he should come in for L Brown.

Realistically you'd think the only change would be JMac for Benny J.

The Saints lineup is a tough one for us to match up on. We'll be stretched down back to cover their smalls (Milne and Schneider have torn us up in previous matches) and, of course, we need to work out how to double-team Roo when he's forward and let him run to the wing if he wants. Their midfield is pretty quick now with Peake and Gilbert.

I'd say JMac has the pace to match BJ's out, and the other alternatives - Dawes, Caff - don't really add enough to cover the outs.

The one move that would be interesting is bringing the 'Sack back in as well, but who for? I still think Leroy would be worth having to match it with Gardiner and McEvoy, since Jolly isn't setting the world on fire with his physicality. Perhaps you'd drop Fraser?

Hmmm... tough choices this week

When the sack is back and had a few games with some form easily in for Toovey if Toov keeps playing at this level.

Johnno is out so obviously O'Bree is the in.

Jack may be switched for Dawes.

The only real headache is if Presti is right, because I still consider Reid the right match-up for Riewoldt then Franklin in the next 2 matches.

I say leave Reid in... he can be moved if he gets belted in the first.

For me he would be a good match if Presti is not match fit

If you can match his pace and height and with a little help from friends you can put him off his game.

everyones bringing up dawes. anyone got some stats on his last few reserve games? hopefully hes been setting the vfl world on fire cause if not i dont see a point in bringing him in against possibly the best team in the league.

I'll review my changes, as much as I want to see Didak dropped for being a squib it's not going to happen. Johnson out obviously. Reid out, he was outmuscled on a few occasions and was lost on the lead plenty of times yesterday from what I saw, Riewoldt would murder him. Think Rocca vs Dawson x10. In saying that what do people think of Brown (L) on Roo? Let's face it, he's going to kill us no matter who we put on him (hoping Harry O will be given a chance) but at the very least Leroy might be able to get stuck in to him a bit. Just tell him to bug the shit out of Roo and try to make him cry, or just belt him one before the start of the game.

Presti should and will come in, hopefully O' Bree as well. I think JMac and Barham should be considered. JMac from all reports played a ripper of a game yesterday and I think the Saints is the type of team that Jacko could thrive against, tough, hard footy.

Dawes is going to be no better that Jack or Cloke, as much as I'd love to drop one of them, especially against the Saints.

Where does this let's hit Riewoldt and it will hurt him stratgey come from.

Roo is one of the toughest players going around, it's just that on 3 occassions when things have not gone his way, he has cried.

Add the fact that he is more of a protected species then the Siberian Tiger, and you have to approach Riewoldt as any other player, or even less physical then normal.

Leigh Brown is so far from the answer it is not funny, he should play, but if he goes near Riewoldt, head for the exits boys, because it will be a frustrating and overall bad night for the pies.

If Presti plays, he takes him, if he doesn't, WE ARE ****ED ANYWAY.

Simply put, we only have one player on our list who can even restrict him, and that's Presti.

As for changes, I'd love to see MaCarthy, MaCaffer, Dawes or/Goldsack in, we need more pace and a consistent marking forward.

Dawes won't get a game though, no one is going to get dropped for him, so my ins/outs at the moment would be;

In: O'bree, Presti (PLEASSSEEEEEE), MaCarthy/Goldsack
Out: Reid (even though I'd love him to stay in), Johnson, Sidebottom.

The Sidebottom call is more for team balance, it's either him or Ball, with O'bree coming back, and I can't see Ball being dropped, YET.

We need some more pace, and J-Mac or Goldy will give us that.

If Presti doesn't play, Reid stays in, and Harry takes first crack at Roo.

I wouldn't have thought Reid would get dropped he put in a solid performance and will keep his spot.:thumbsu:
And I doubt sinclair will replace Johnson, who while I have heard good things about him in the Nab Cup is way to raw to consider unless Collingwood get some major injuries.:)

Its simple, st.kilda is a bigger, faster, better side (on paper) than us. we need big targets up forward with strength and from what i read Dawes has speed for his size.

thats what we need in against the saints.

Fraser will have to play up forward. Dawson might take anthony and maybe Goddard or fisher? will take cloke

i dont really know the saints defense.. would someone be happy to give us an idea of what there defense would look like?

cheers.

More likely it'll go like this if we set-up the first 6 like this;

Dawson-Anthony
Blake-Cloke
Gwilt-Medhurst
Young-Didak
Baker-Davis
Goddard-Lockyer

So looking at that Fraser or Leigh Brown may stretch their height. But let's face it, Saints try and slow you down through the middle so they have about 14 players camped in their back 60m.

I wondering if pulling Dawson wide and Gwilt to the goald square would upset their structure. Hale gave them trouble on sat night when North moved the ball well on the odd occassion

i would have dawson in the goalsquare cos i know cloke or anthony can beat him 1 on 1

medhurst gives excellent service in leads and would beat gwilt mainly on agility and speed so maybe leave gwilt wide on medhurst running in to the corridor.

totally agree with the defensive forward of lockyer on goddard but not sure if he could out mark him and match his speed. maybe a rusling could take this position being in defense the last coupple weeks...... ?

saints loveeee to flood and cos we sometimes take an eternity to get it into our f50 there will be no space to lead thats why we are always pushed to the boundary. so i think we should have cloke at FF cos he gives us good leads.

Geez i wish the collingwood coaching staff would get ideas from us by reading this... lol

Drop Cloke, he needs to be taught the fundamentals of football.
When a big kpf like him flies at a mark, and completely mis judges it unmanned and attempts to mark it with his forearms, you know you are in trouble. Dawes must be given his opportunity. Malthouse stated along the lines of, "our 30th player is the same level as our 20th player" if that's the case I want to see 8 changes made this week because that was one of the most lacklustre, woeful games I've seen us play in quite some time. I was at ground level and we were completely flat, there was hardly any voice on the field. It was as if no-one wanted to be there.
And IMO, I don't know about anyone else but I though Dane Swan played the laziest game of football, I've seen played since Chris Egan donned the black and white. I'm not suggesting he be dropped but he needs to show respect to lesser sides, he has too much ego for a player who didn't really make it as a player until his mid 20's.

Sorry needed to vent. :)

Ins:
O'bree, Presti (hopeful), Dawes

Outs:
Johnson, Reid, Cloke

(Hope for more but won't happen)
