I've had Shuey as BOG in the last two games and in the top 3 in round 2 (albeit everyone bar Darling was poor).
i agree. shuey is hugely underrated by the vic. Im not saying he would be recognised elite there but if he was in a vic club, he would be getting so much recognition.

Let me preface this by saying that leading up to the game each week I'm a glass half empty kinda guy and can find plenty of reasons how we could lose (or opposition beat us).

I think this is a critical game for our season though. While there has been a lot of talk about our credentials to contend I think it took a kick in the teeth with that performance against the Hawks, and there is some shakiness in the boys' belief about winning big matches on the road. They are still a young team and they just haven't had enough wins on the road against big opposition yet. Losing to the Swans this weekend just drives that insecurity further. Its a tough venue to win at. We haven't played there for 6 years (be interesting to see how many of the current players have actually played there before). Haven't won there since '99....etc. etc. So there is that. I think the pressure is on them. They know the footy world's eyes will be on them to see if the Hawks game was an aberration or whether there is a bit of soft underbelly to the side (flat track bullies anyone??).

Without getting into the debate about individuals, I think the Swan's midfields are a class (or two) above ours. Doesn't mean they can't be beaten, but on paper I think they are contested beasts and they play the SCG very well. If we don't bring our A-Game we will be blown out of the water before half time, and the Swans don't let teams back in.

Their only 'weakness' is possibly their backline. I think as a collective our forwards have the edge.

Can't believe I'm about to reference the moron, but Brereton made a very good observation in the Crows/Swans game (and then annoyingly proceeded to to harp on about it at every F***** opportunity) that the Swans backs tend to play from behind and struggle with the ball delivered in front of the leading forward. If it's up and unders, their defence is all over it, bit like ours.

I think that will be the key. Our mids have got to keep their composure going I50, and that will be hard with the pressure they will be under. We have a terrible tendency to hoik it on the boot going I50 even seemingly when we have the time to lower our eyes and pick a better option. Last week there were some absolute gems going I50, but watching the game again Kennedy had every right to be filthy with the ball coming in, I counted at least 4 times where he was leading out and Rance was on his hammer and the ball was bombed in and ended going just behind him. I'm sure there were more. We can't do that this week. It'll end up in Buddy or Heeney's hands within seconds and we won't know what hit us.

I'll be at the game and I hope to hell I have something to yell about on Saturday. Who am I kidding - win, lose or draw I'll be yelling at something. :)

oh, and...

Priddis for Hutch
Giles for Slyce
Wellers (if available) for Nelson/Butler

No longer.

Posts will start being deleted from now on.

And I was just about to post my first non Goodes mosque comment ( hey honeybadger35)

( Gently gently ) Yeos field kicking looked awesome against Richmond the other night, reasonably tough, can defend and attack. Reasonably good skills. He could make for a good centre man given the opportunity

Anyway Nelson def IN
Duggan Def in
Win lose or draw the experience will good for em

So who makes way for Priddis and Wellingham, who are very clearly best 22?

I think at the scg chf is less important, so Macgovern to half back or full back
Wellingham back flank- Nelson on bench
May sound crazy but Rest eMac for this game ( knee reco, sore toe, and top heavy in back line )
Give Schofield job on Franklin - he excelled last year when given the responsibility

Mmm not sure about the other one

No eMac plays

McGovern is injury prone and Schofield is t good enough to,play on buddy for a whole game in my view

I think schofield gets the job on buddy when the ball is locked in our 50. buddy cut up the crows when swans were on the rebound. schoey has the leg speed to go with buddy in that situation. But emac on buddy for the rets of the game.

I would prefer we get games back into Emac over the kids. He is more important to this year's premiership campaign than the others.

Yup

It's down to midfield supply ...if the swans carve us up on the midfield we could triple team buddy and it ain't going to help

The midfield must create pressure so buddy has to work for his touches and some "dirty" ball coming in

Clean ball coming into buddy and it's lights out west coast

definitely. I think if we can get the web working well, the mcgovern could just about dominate. Last week was a spectacle as bothe emac and gov were leaving their men to intercept kicks.

Two different grounds subi- scg and the difference is significant
Why not Schofield on Franklin ( full time ) and Macgovern as the Interceptor ?
Have more players in the back line that can run and kick ( straight )
And prepared to go in hard like Nelson

And yea main emphasis must be mid field otherwise will get carved up no matter what..

Yea he's more important than the others re premiership and given he's a bit sore and just come off a knee reco wouldnt it be more beneficial to rest him early in the season ( long flight etc ) ?
And let him build from there?

At the end of the day it'll be a midfield battle
Rest eMac, and play Schofield into some form

Sore? Says who? Had a sore toe then played last weekend and now not on the injury list. Rest him when we've got a game we are certain to win without him. Too risky flirting with form when we have a brutal opening fixture that sets up our year.

emac is just about getting used to our style and playing footy like he did in 2014, last thing you want is to do is mess with momentum. Apart from last game schoey has looked average so i cant see him taking buddy full time. emac will get a rest soon.

Momentum yea true... People can argue the pros and cons of resting players till the cows come home.. But given that ( momentum ), wouldn't we want his best form ( and momentum ) coming into the finals, so rest earlier rather than later?

Also everyone seems to agree it'll be a midfield battle...
So long flight, last week moon boot, knee reco and the emphasis being the midfield battle, timing wise now is good!!

Re Schofield there was a lot of similar banter about him back in 2014, drop him ect. Last year he stepped up and was great. Think he performs better given a good challenge
It's a win win, rest eMac and give Schofield Franklin and see if he can recapture that 2015 form

I think if you rest Emac it's more likely against a team like Carlton who don't have a fwd and we're massive favourites.

This game, while very early in the season, could have massive bearings on where we finish at the end of the year given the form we've seen from Sydney.

If we're to go deep in September we need a top 2 finish, games like this get you there.

So you don't rest your AA FB when you're coming up against an AA FF.

emac will get two breaks between now and finals. Your acting as we have already made finals. This part of the season is our toughtest period and we need all our best players. sorry but can you imagine the shitstorm we will get if we rest emac and buddy becomes the difference. Also the last thing a guy who missed 12 months of footy is rest. he will get managed letter on against poorer opposition.

we do as well. but its more to do with developing yeo's inside game game than stopping the opposition. after all we let micthell of the chain the last few times we played hawks. Someone like parker will lead yeo to the footy and teach him to get tomthe right places.

i agree about shuey and how he doesnt need a lot of touches to be good. But against top 4 teams you need your best mid to have more that many touches. Thing with shuey on friday night was that at half time and mid way 3qt he was on his way to 30-34 touch game. so it meant that he dropped of a bit in the second half.
Disagree, if you gett 22 touches @ 95% with Shuey skillset it's always going to be a top game, regardless of the opposition.
