Agree, whoever missed would have been unlucky. Nothing in it but I probably would have gone Thomas before Varcoe, mainly because of their last games against this opposition are still fresh in my mind. But then you look at the generational change aspect and Varcoe will be phased out this year you'd expect. The younger guys need to step up and cover the lost defensive pressure.

He has been very poor in 2019 and had an average to poor 2018, never said he was a dud overall. Clearly he needs to step it up if he wants to be best 22 though.

What credits does varcoe have? He wasnt even good in 2018, was a passenger most weeks but most on this board give him a free pass because he tackles roughly or something. Played nearly every game in 2018 and didnt even come top 10 in the BnF, very poor for a senior player who didnt have injuries.

His tackling pressure was enormious and team lifting,he often set up goals or kicked them himself.He did a lot of the hard stuff off the ball that often goes unnoticed.He got us going in both finals against the West Coast.He was never dropped in 2018,so the coaching staff obviously disagrees with your opinion that he ‘wasn’t even good in 2018’.

I love Varcoe, I reckon he adds plenty of hardness at the contest, but 5 touches will get anyone in trouble at the selection table. Especially when we have such a fit list. He'll need to find form in the VFL. When he does, and makes it back to seniors, we'll be better for it.

Competition for spots can only improve the side and anyone that was dropped from last week a little stiff, Hope we can play as good as we look on paper ,one of our strongest teams picked for years.

I am a big Varcoe fan but it's hard to argue with the change. Adams had to come in - a best 22 lock. Varcoe will play VFL for a couple of weeks but for all we know will be back in the senior side at some stage this year.

What a great problem to have though. Our depth is becoming really really good and when a couple of other players are knocking down the door it's going to become really competitive.

I have liked what I have seen with Aish off half back and would love to see him given more midfield time. Greenwood was never going out, will likely play a run with role and our best at doing it.
Thomas had a great year last year and a better year than Varcoe so has a few more (current) credits in the bank.

I hope Adams lines up in the middle with Treloar and Beams. Pendles and Sidey start on the wings.
