I am interested in the opinions of people who barrick for a team then suddenly change to another team. How in your right mind can you barrick for a team, ie Geelong then change teams ie Carlton. Considering those teams Played in the 1995 GF wouldn't you be more determined to beat that team not switch to them.:o

People that change teams obviously are not very passionate. Geelong could lose another four Grand Finals in the next seven years and even that wouldn't stop me from barracking for them  .

yep i reckon its pretty sad when a supporter switches clubs, however it isnt really any different to when a player switches clubs.

Obvioubsly, in general, im opposed to supporters switching clubs, however, there are a number of cases in which it happens for legit reasons. Myself, i was a Hawthorn supporter till West Coast came into the competion in 1987, even though Hawthorn were very strong back then, i still felt i had to support the team from which i was born (even though i was living in Sydney at the time).

Other reasons why people can switch teams are that they have been screwed around by their own club. IE, club board is just not loyal enough to its supporters, and they get disenchanted with their own club. Or maybe they move to another state, and feel compelled to support their local team.

So, although, most of the time, i am opposed to it, we can't jump the gun, and critisize them all, after all i am one of them in a way, but i am 100 per cent loyal to the eagles.

Remember every time a new team comes into the competition, most of its supporters would've already had a team that they followed.

Technically you are not a 'supporter' if you switch clubs

Supporters support their team through thick and thin. I personally have no time or respect for anyone who switches teams

People have asked me in the past if I would change sides if Southport for some reason joined the AFL. I was born at Southport in QLD. I always tell them that I would never change sides because it is just not the thing to do.

Nup, disagree with you there. Players come and go, but the supporters should be with their club forever.

However, it's perfectly understandable that the WA, SA, NSW, and Qld fans left their old Victorian allegiences to take up supporting their new hometown clubs.

I think it is different. Players have to play footy to make a living and they can't stay at the one club and play VFL footy or live with a coach you don't like. They must move on and try to re-ignite their careers. Fans don't make a living out of supporting footy teams. They are in for the long haul, through all the hard times and the good ones. They just don't go and change clubs willy nilly because one side is struggling etc. Well.... most don't!

Me and North, thick and thin.

If you want to start barracking for Port, thats great and I'll encourage it if you mean it.

If you want to stop barracking for Port and go somewhere else, you are the scum of the earth...lower than crows fans.

I think this is the most common view of supporters....the reason why people get stuck into Loz is because he's Loz.

i have a real problem with people who change teams.....except i dont mind if they change from collingwood to a different team, you cant help if youve been brought up that way!

I don't care what people do, but personally I would never change teams. I would either be a Melbourne supporter or not a supporter at all.
Melbourne is such a big part of me, its the only team I truely love and I can't see myself ever changing. I know that if I tried it would just feel so very wrong.
Even if my favorite player moved, I wouldn't even dream about changing teams, although I am truely one of his biggest fans.

Just like you were 100 per cent loyal to Hawthorn?

:D

Swapping teams is an hanging offence.I have mates who have done this years ago and they can never shake the tag,it is a sign of softness that you can not hack the bad years.A few people who stand near me at Essendon games left the Ess/Rich r22 game early, apart from the send off i gave them that night, i will not talk to them.

I couldn't switch. I've been living in Sydney for several years now and I go to all the Swans games, but I'll always be a Bomber.

I would say that about 99% of hardcore football supporters would never change teams in their lifetimes.

Funny when you think about it -- if people were as loyal to their wives and husbands as they are to their football clubs, divorces probably wouldn't exist.

Well, I moved up from Melbourne to the Gold Coast with my family when I was 5.

My Dad had already neptured me in the Collingwood tradition.

I tell, being an interstate fan is tough as hell. I find myself going to Brisbane games and cheering for them with the rest of the crowd sometimes because I have never really experienced the thrill of supporting my team live (i have only seen Collingwood play in Melbourne 3 or 4 times), hence the interstate fan thing. And you just crave a reason to support with a crowd because I have not experienced it much.

My friends have told me to stop supporting Collingwood and join Brisbane. That is something that I will never do. Collingwood is in my blood now, i bleed black and white and the love and passion for my club is what keeps me loyal to the Black and White.

As hard and as painful it is to be an interstate fan and only cheer for your team by yelling at the TV, its something that I will just have to do.
