Am I the only one who cant stomach t20 in any way, shape or form? Is there a thread on this that somebody could direct me to?

As for the test commentary, its been utterly sickening. An ABC Grandstand 'simulcast' is generally a good option, or i watch a stream of the English coverage on wiziwig or something (but the visual quality is generally poor).

I'm sure healy and slater were more bearable years ago when bill, tony and ritchie etc. were still the big dogs. Am I mistaken?

tomorrow night starts the month of the most biased commentary in world cricket. the south africans love their own team
Please. The South African commentary team is the best in the world, great listening to them. Not too fussed if they show some bias anyway, everybody does.

I must be one of the few people who doesn't care about commentators showing bias. If a commentator is from Australia/South Africa, of course they will be barracking for Australia/South Africa. Whether they make that clear or not doesn't bother me. It's all the other crap that bothers, namely Healy being pretty much incompetent in every aspect of speaking.

can't stand flemming. he's just become a tryhard comedian and predictable

To be fair, why wouldn't they?

Doesn't bother me either, can't believe people sook up over it.

Doesn't bother me at all, so long as there is a visiting commentator in the team as well. This summer Michael Vaughan and David Lloyd filled that role really well, and definitely added some genuine humour to the commentary.

I don't know about an actual thread, but you are not alone with your feelings about T20. It's an abomination that started out as a sideshow event and evolved into a marketable product. It offers the thinking cricket fan absolutely nothing, and it annoys me to see ordinary players who aren't good enough to be playing Test cricket making big money playing it. I don't know why they bother to have bowlers, they should just use a bowling machine to allow batsmen to just tee off on it.

Mark Nicholas actually sounds decent on the south african telecast
Doesnt try to hype things up or shout like he does on 9
^^^^
this.

thusly it must be a directive from above to ham it up during commentary stints. heads must roll.

Had a chat to him (Nicholas) at a Springsteen gig last week, before he was flying over to South Africa. Seemed a great bloke, was happy to take photos with people etc, and seemed very down to earth and very much like he seems commentating on this series. Rather different to how he is on Channel 9.

Channel 9 are pretty much 3rd world compared to other countries when it comes to commentary. Slight biases are to be expected but not once have I wanted to put my foot through the TV for something the SA commentators have said. No promotions or shitty polls has been great to. Professional stuff

Channel 9 meanwhile are a bunch of barracking, try hard comedians who cant wait to get home and watch The Block. I can only hope that no other nation has to put up with the shame that is their telecast

The whole vibe of this south african commentary is much like what you get on ABC
The issue with 9 is that they want to call a test match the same way they call a T20

Exactly this.

Haven't lived in SA but it seems they don't have the same masculine "blokey" vibe permeating through to their commentary, to me it makes for the antithesis of professional broadcasting. That kind of environment means thinking up a crass/lame joke to get some cheap laughs becomes more important than thinking up insightful analysis. Let's not even get started on the cross-promotions or Ian Healy.
