People around here often say that the Cheer Squad is good for the club but lacks variation in its chants.

Why cant we be inspired by premier league chants to add that variation and passion into it.

Chants such as

"North Melbourne till I die"

"Same old Collingwood Always Cheating"

We could pass this on to our Cheer Squad, to add that flavour to the game and complie a big list of chants.

" Caro is a scrag forever/Dwayne Russell is Knob forever" Subsitute any of the names with Gary Lyon or Mike Sheahan

Well, the gauntlet has been thrown down by Melbourne Victory which in it's whole 2 years of existence have managed to fill out the 8-10 bays behind both goals with passionate and singing supporters.

The problem is participation.

They sing and chant because the game is so dull and boring there is nothing to watch so you have to entertain yourself! Same worldwide.

They give out the lyrics to songs/chants at Victory games I believe. The Barmy Army does too. NMFC could use the scoreboard screen pre-match as it is controlled by the home side.

fair go mate, credit where credit is due.

We could only dream of the AFL going worldwide.

Yea mate, they handed out lyrics in their early days to get people used to the core songs you could say. Their main way of getting across songs and chants is, believe it or not over an internet forum, where all the BWB members (their cheersquad) come up with new songs and post links to the tunes for practice every week before the game. If we could do the same, there is no doubt we would attract more supporters, as evident with the Melbourne Victory (the fastest growing football/soccer club in the world).

The other night at Olympic park we got the "four stands" chant going, where each stand chanted off against eachother, i was screaming my lungs out, while at the same time holding back tears of joy.

I want us to adopt the same kind of passion and support for our club.

Hopefully in 2007 there'll be no need for it, but last season they probably would have been well served to learn how to whistle the theme from "Chips".

At the Dome it's potentially the cheer squad behind the goals chanting off against the members' wing.

But you're not alone with your intentions... apparently there are moves afoot from one of our regulars here to establish an alternative "chant squad".

Crazy Q ? Crazy Q ? Where are you ?

I expect to see some sketches on my desk by the end of January.

I like the "WHO ARE YA??? WHO ARE YA???" Chant.
In reference to the club's lack of.....
a) SUPPORT (Melbourne/Bulldogs)
b) SUCCESS(Melbourne/Bulldogs/St Kilda/Richmond/Geelong/Freo)
c) RECOGNITION etc..

Yes Like this idea very much
what about d) arrogant fcuks ( Essendon/Collingwood/Carlton)

I think you'll find that the more exciting the game is, the more the crowd generally participates in chants. Boring games normally go together hand in hand with quiet crowds.

Like his gossip, GFW has no idea.

Plenty of "original" chants in this thread :)
