I think you'll find almost all that have been suggested lately have been approved. Progress has certainly been made and far less is being halted.

Yeah it's not so much the approval, it's more them actually getting off the ground. ie people actually buying them. In a city the size of Adelaide where demand for high rise living is not really there, they are a very poor investment despite what many a property spruiker will tell you.

You know some moron on Facebook or Adelaide now will say it and mean it.

Ahh bless em
To quote Moe Szyslak: "Man, you go through life, you try to be nice to people, you struggle to resist the urge to punch 'em in the face, and for what?"

It's Facebook/AdelaideNow, someone will think that's the correct spelling too.

What if SA is suddenly "swamped" with Chinese students/potato farmers...?

Bloody awful in a City that has lots of land to the north and south that can still be built upon.

It's interesting to note and maybe, I say, maybe, not lost on the Chinese, that the late Mick Young federal member for Port Adelaide and minister in Whitlams ministry had a keen fascination with China long before it was considered acceptable.to do so.

He spent some months there prior to Cultural Revolution and accompanied Gough Whitlam there as the first western leader to visit China (Before Nixon), he was most likely in that photo of Gough & Margaret somewhere that L.R. posted a few days ago.
captain ebert and I have talked about Mick and this issue over the last few months via PMs. I will leave it up to him if he wants to expand on Mick Young's role. It's partly the reason why his avatar is Gough wearing an old magpies long sleeve guernsey.

As I am not a native of SA and was living elsewhere in Aust during those years I however was aware of Mick Young and his activities.

I do recall on one of the few occasions of meeting Gough in the early 70's he spoke about Mick Young and about his "humble" background and how he considered him quite a visionary.

I do not know however if he had connection with the PAFC as I said I was not living here in those times.

From these clues, I have deduced that the German's have invaded Poland, there are cabbage crates flying over the briny and we had best man the egg-and-fours so that we can best get this bacon delivered.

Mick Young was a strong supporter before he became the federal member for Port Adelaide and for many years when he was member for Port Adelaide, he was the no.1 ticket holder. Big Bob and board members would have held his counsel.

Gough had no real link with Port other than Mick getting him to the club every now and then. Last year I found a photo of Gough as opposition leader presenting the Thomas Seymour Hill cup to then Sturt captain (Bob Sherman I think) after the 1968 GF at AO. I wouldn't be surprised if Mick or the previous long term member for Port Adelaide whose name escapes me now, set it up that Gough would be presenting the trophy to Port after another GF win, but alas we lost the 3rd GF in a row to Sturt.

You've got to be kidding me.

Love your footy smarts and posts dude but this one post is a "classic Adelaide thinking" howler.

The land is there, sure, but it makes no sense to spread this *town* out any further. Remind me again where the Adelaide metro area sits on the global ppl/sq m index, never mind the incremental infrastructure costs.

Anyway, apologies for the OT and back to talk of strategic alliances with folk from the very Fatherland of "high density living".

Thanks for that information great to know he was No1 ticket holder for a period.

Gough wasn't big on sport I remember once he asked me what I did outside of work as soon as I mentioned football his attention wavered somewhat

All this seems to be leading towards a strategic placement of Port within the development of the game in China

Whilst this is promising in the long term, and I understand the clubs approach is long term, but paraphrasing Kochie we were promised something "gamechanging" and that would "secure our future for the next 10 years"

Junior footy development in Shanghai or even setting up a collaborative training partnership just isn't going to give the instant hit we are craving

I'm preparing to be underwhelmed and waiting for the inevitable sniping from the multitude of Tingles ambassadors

I hope I'm wrong

Presumably in partnership with a corporate? I.e China Southern Airlines or the like and part of that deal is they come on as a major sponsor (of both the program) and the PAFC for the duration of the deal (10 years?)
