Excellent game against West Coast tonight.

He's a certain starter next week. With his body strength, coupled with Travis Cloke's contest marking ability also, and, Leigh Brown's strength and ability to assist a tall marking option in our fifty, the pies are looking more likely to be a big player at the business end of this season.

Dawes can kick for goal, hold his own against the best of the league's defenders (strength), and, he has the ability to provide a contest.

A seriously talented prospect for the future.

Some may disagree, but his near emulation of Anthony Rocca is bliss to watch.

Also on tonight's match, didn't concede more than 3 goals in a quarter, kicked accurately (well, more accurately than before), and played 4 quarters. Very happy supporter.

Blair, phaw.... what a tough nut that kid is. Wouldn't want to be on the business end of his tackles. Insane.

He's played good games against shitful opposition (Sydney are OK but are our bitches). You're kidding yourself if you think he can match it with the likes of Scarlett atm though. He's an exciting prospect but don't get ahead of yourself.

Exciting player for the future no doubt but we will need to find other avenues to goal in September. 2+ goals against the likes of Geelong and the Saints will be a good return considering where he's at in his development.

I don't think anyone thinks that about Dawes. I don't even think it about Buddy Franklin or Jonathan Brown. What I do think is that Dawes and Cloke have to play every game for the remainder of the season barring injury. Great team.

Yep, he was no good tonight because his 4 goals weren't kicked against Scarlett.

I guess that means at most, our players can only have a maximum of 2-3 good games per year, and when they do they're unlikely to do so because they'd have to be directly opposed by Matthew Scarlett.

*sigh*

In other news, Dawes was very good in his 19th career game.

the best thing about his game tonight was that he clunked a contested grab overhead, and then nearly did it again a few minutes later.

Clearly this is the area that he needs the most work and he is already showing improvement, which is great to see.

Dawes has one of the best "asses" in the AFL, and I'm not making some type of homo erotic comment here.

He just knows how to stick the big thing out and protect the fall of the ball, which will define his career IMO.

2 of his marks inside 50 tonight, and 2 last week would not have been taken if not for his great use of the posterior.

He has the talent, is getting more consistent, but I keep going back to the old "how good will he be after 50-70 games".

He is only going to get better, I think that is clear to see now, but he is already an AFL forward, the sky may be the limit.

Not every team has a Scarlett Mate and Scarlett beats all AFL Forwards:rolleyes:

hehe, I agree though, this season Dawes has looked very good in one on ones. He always seems to work his way to the front.

Loved his mark in the last quarter. Couldn't work out why we were chipping the ball around in the last quarter. Should've just pumped the ball long to Dawes. He would've kicked 6 goals. Wonder if anyones gonna come on now and say he can't mark overhead.

What a stupid remark.

In no way am I saying he's at the stage to rag doll Matthew Scarlett. No forward in the competition could with the other 21 players that surround him.

He's played a great game, for, 2 weeks in a row. Lets give him some credit, hey?

Great Response Mate:thumbsu:

Dawes is class, hopefully he is able to match it against quality opposition in September though.

Wonder what will happen with Jack now. :(

That mark in the last capped off a great night at the office. Cloke too, sensational. His contested marking ability has to be elite. I know he didn't hit the scoreboard like he would've liked but i definately prefer him winding up and going for broke.

PS. Jollys mark on Nic Nat..... OMG..

He's certainly not running under the ball as much as he was against Geelong, before he was dropped.

I actually think the week he spent down at VFL level was a good move. As TRS mentioned he was running underneath the ball a little against Geelong and it does not hurt a young kid to go back and get some confidence at the lowel level. It probably helped MM as well as he has now stated that Dawes is too good for VFL level now.

Dawes and Reid have been a highlight for me this year. They are doing what good young KP's are doing and that is beating similar opponents. You can't expect Dawes to beat Scarlett and you can't expect Reid to beat a Nick Riewoldt or Jon Brown at this stage.

The earlier calls of watch out once they hit 50-75 games are spot on. That is when you can reasonably expect them to perform on those types of players. In the meantime just pump the games and the experience into them and fast-track them as quickly as we can.

I agree with well left in saying that Dawes and Reid have definately both been highlights this year, are going to nake our Key position stocks look fairly strong in the future.

also am pleased to see that dawes seems to now favour taking them out in front on the lead, rather then on the chest which he used to do (Y)

Definitely deserves to stay in the side, we look a much better team with him out there. 13 disposals, 4.1 goals, 1 assist, 7 marks (3 contested), 92% efficiency & 0 clangers is a very good return for a big forward. You can really see the improvement, particularly in his marking, in the space of the games he has played this season. Give him more game time & he's going to keep improving.

He did some really clever things last night that I wasn't expecting to see from him until he had more experience. Using his body at the right moment to out position his opponent or to block the space of the ball drop. He's also improved overhead, and when he doesn't mark last night he made sure the ball spilled in front of him creating crumbs. That and he has been excellent in front of goals. Some really promosing stuff. All we need is for him to keep getting games and hopefully he'll be competing against the best sooner rather than later.

I could only be prouder of MyMan if my Forum name was MySonDawes or MyBrotherDawes etc. I always believed he would make it, just like a real dad in that respect! He has far more presence on the ground now, and could become a real star in our forward line.

We actually scored 3 winners from the 1st 3 picks in that draft - Reid, Brown and Dawes, 3 KP players who should be around for another 10 years.
