I could only be prouder of MyMan if my Forum name was MySonDawes or MyBrotherDawes etc. I always believed he would make it, just like a real dad in that respect! He has far more presence on the ground now, and could become a real star in our forward line.

We actually scored 3 winners from the 1st 3 picks in that draft - Reid, Brown and Dawes, 3 KP players who should be around for another 10 years.

What about the 1st Dick,Goldsack and Wellingham in the Rookie Draft

It's starting to look like 2 good drafts in a row.

After that was Sidey, Beams, Rounds etc.:D

"Two in a row" if you forget that 2007 ever happened... yes. :p

What, you don't think that Tobias Thoolen at 47 was an inspired pick?! Pick 14 for Wood? The jury is still out on McCarthy, though I reckon the use by date on our love affair with all-things-Barham may have expired. Did we get anything worth talking about in the rookie draft 2007?

He has shown that he can become a power house forward but he got smashed by Scarlett badly becacuse he struggles with of head marks. 90% of the game is played above the shoulders, so i am impressed with Dawes because he is a great kick at goal and is a unit but he needs to improved on his overhead marking before finals.

Everyone gets smashed by Scarlett

He looked to have Improved since that game

Can't judge Dawes to harshly yet on a Scarlett with 15 games under his belt.

Let's remember, Scarlett has been a phenomenal full-back.

Dawes probably won't face Scarlett too many more time in his career. He's going to be playing on players like Pears and co for the majority of his career.

Finally someone that makes sense :thumbsu::)

Ditto for Reid.

Nathan Brown in his first year beat far better opponents.

Reid's a different player to Brown. And I'd back Brown to continue beating those opponents.

Thing is Nathan Brown is in the Presti mould which is fantastic for us, when Presti gives it away, whereas Reid is a different player and complements our back line better.

I'm not sure in this day you can have 2 pure stopping fullbacks in a side whom only gather 5-10 non attacking possessions per game.

Early on in the year when N Brown was in the side I thought he was fantastic, but I didn't think he could hold his spot over Presti, like most would be thinking, where as Reid is a bit more athletic and his kicking is a weapon. Did you see that pass to Jolly on the weekend? That was phenomenal.

However I do believe when we played Brisbane, the selection committee should've picked Brown over Reid to play on JB as he is more a power forward, and that selection may have cost us the game.

At this stage we have to keep the matchups in Reid's favour. But I think he is becoming a better 1 on 1 defender with every game.

We're very lucky to have both Reid and Brown for the future as they're both potentially 10 year players and will complement each other fantastically, and with 2 key defenders like that and also Dawes and Cloke up the other end who complement each other also, not to mention a very young midfield, we'll be hovering around the top 4-6 for a very long time IMO.

The staff have built this team very well it seems.

Very Well Said N Brown and Reid are Different Players

That was JIMP material.

It was a very good game from Dawes, it was however the sort of game you'd expect him to do well in, really dominate performance up the ground and more space then we ever should have been allowed in our fowardline.

It certainly wasn't the sort of game that he stood up and showed improvness in his weaknesses, if anything it was a game that highlighted his strengths which obviously he has.

Something that was extremely pleasantly suprising was how smart his leads where. The one that got him his last goal where he made a couple leads and caught his defender out leading back into the space he created was top notch.

I have no doubt when he is given space he has the tools to look top notch, my doubts have always been and remain to be over his ability to provide an option or have any impact on a game when there isn't space.

I am heavily borrowing MDC's words here but for the above reasons he is not as bad as the Geelongs or Dogs or Saints will make him look, nor is he as good as the Essendon's or Carlton's or WCE's make him look.

20 games in he is looking like a good pick-up.

Long term yes, currently not sure but he is improving with each sighting which is obviously a good sign but it's not as though he doesn't need too.
Agree.
Any potential KPP is going to take a while to hit their full potential. The main thing is he appears to have gotten that confidence he seemed to lack last year, which is understandable, and is improving, learning and fitting within our structures better with each outing.

Personally I have big hopes for Dawes, but these have to be tempered with patience and reality.

If he can kick 30 goals this year (regular season) then he has done very well from limited games early.
