After five years at the helm of the Blues, and heading into the final year of his contract, Judd has indicated he is ready to relinquish the post.
It is believed Judd has grown weary of some of the captaincy responsibilities and public glare.
A formal decision on the post has not been made, but some Carlton figures are anticipating a leadership change and are sympathetic towards Judd's personal position.

Club chiefs have repeatedly said the job is Judd's if he wants to keep it, but are happy with the quality of potential replacements, who continued to emerge on the Blues high-altitude trip to Arizona this month.
It appears only an impassioned plea from new coach Mick Malthouse or his teammates could make the brilliant midfielder reconsider his decision.

Would love to see Murph as the Captain. I think Carrots has his plate full off the field with the triplets, and Jamo is too injury prone. Simmo is another good choice, but clear second to MMurph in my opinion.

Love Juddy and he has done brilliantly, but I personally think a change at the top would invigorate us even more.

Not overly surprised. Seemed to have been set on it for a while now. No doubt he'll still be the 'spiritual' leader of the club, but the lessened responsibilities should allow him focus on his game and hopefully lessen the pressure of carrying the team when things aren't going well.

If he's not up for it anymore I'd prefer the club didn't try and 'convince' him to stay on. As for a replacement is there anyway to add a poll to the thread?

I'm torn between Murphy and Carrots.

Personally I'd love to see Carrots get the gig, if anyone was to ask me name 1 current player that epitomises Carlton Id answer Carrazzo

But Murphy is young and I believe would make a brilliant long term captain

Edit: Also it's amusing that they just randomly threw in;

"Judd is challenging the AFL ruling that his $200,000-a-year third-party payment from Visy must be included in the club's salary cap for the first time"

As long as Judd wants to step down, then it is okay. I hope nobody has suggested he consider stepping down. I thought he wanted to captain another flag but it has been 5 years so ....

Would have said Murph before, but am starting to think about Simmo or Carrots now.

Heral Sun trying to break a news story, lol this was around a month ago, they are just playing catch up

Simmo for me but think Murph an thats fine he did a great job during the year...

Go Blues

Andrew Collins
Aaron Joseph.

Anyway I've no problem with this if true. The man could do with a bit less pressure and for mine, Murph has already proven he's capable.

Is that the Good Judd or the Evil Judd that wants to step down? Surely one of them could hang in...

Murphy has shown he has what it takes, and like Michael Clarke I think will grow into the role quickly and brilliantly.

Carrots and Simmo worthy, but they are similar age to Juddy. Like to see a young gun in there.

I would love to see Carrots as the skipper, been around the joint for a while and he just bleeds navy blue.

i personally would love judd to continue

just feel he is the appropiate person to lead the club. on field leadership is second to none and just demands so much that the whole team lifts.

i too have hopes of judd lifting the cup in the navy blue

Would prefer Judd to stay on as Captain, but if he thinks his time is up, so be it.

Would be leaning towards Carrots slightly ahead of Murph to take over.

I nominate Mitch Robinson. At 23 he's in the right age group and his onfield bravado should be an inspiration to his team-mates young and old. As far as press conferences etc, some passion and straight talking would be an effective counterbalance to any Malthouse spin.

Mick: "the ox is slow but the earth is patient"
Mitch: "what the fudge are you on about, coach?" :D

Bulldust there are no other serious candidates. Simmo or Carrots for me - epitomy of what it means to put on the navy blue. Let Murph weave his silk on the field.
