For someone who played so many games, and even coached, how can he possibly be SO clueless about football? It’s truly staggering how a guy who’s been so involved with the game has so little understanding of it. He’s always trying to break the big rumours, always talking up a particular player (he said the Crows HAD to go after McDougall), always talking down another (Meesen).

Anyone read his Crows player rankings for 2007? What a load of rubbish it was, here’s a few snippets:

Rhett Biglands listed as a ‘Must Keep’. 30 y/o, average at the best of times ruckman coming off a knee reconstruction is listed as must keep despite the fact we have 3 young ruckmen.

Brett Burton listed as 'Untouchable’. Yeah? At 29, with dodgy knees, coming off the worst season of his career, he’s an untouchable according to Bones. I’d trade him without a second thought.

Ivan Maric listed as 'On Notice’. How many ruckman look the goods before they turn 22, heck even 23, 24? Injury set him back this season but his ruckwork continues to impress and he also kicked 5 goals in 6 games. He’s on notice, Biglands is must keep. Work that one out...

Andrew McIntyre listed as ‘Must Keep’. IMO at best he’s placed on the rookie list next year, if not then delisted. Got height and can take a mark, but his pace, awareness, skills at ground level and intensity are all below par. Must keep though Bones?

John Meesen. Has McDermott ever finished a sentence without adding how much he hates Meesen?

Bryce Campbell. According to McDermott he needs a weapon to his game. His ball winning ability, ferocious tackling, skills level and competitive nature all add up to a very good player. Believe it or not, all are weapons Bones.

My word Chris, give it up, you're pieces are always disastrous. :thumbsd:

Yes, the Norwood players are guns while McIntyre should be sacked despite being a young bloke, coming off a serious injury, and playing in a fantastic win today.

North play Centrals next week.

Who do Norwood play?

Good to see you responding in a reasonable manor…

I rate the Norwood guys, you claim they’re rubbish. You rate McIntyre, I claim he’s rubbish.

I was very pleased when I heard we got Macca on the rookie list, thought it was a steal at the time, but this season has been a disaster. Turns 21 early next year, Gallman at 18 is already a superior player.

You tell me what is so good about McIntyre apart from the fact he plays for North? How can you make the grade as a defender having no intensity? You can’t put that down to his injury, he just doesn’t look desperate out there. How many times did he fumble today, about 5? All alone running to pick up the ball and he couldn’t pick it up, allowing the opponent to either run away or create a stoppage. I saw the exact same things when we played North this year.

Got a long, long way to go and the signs aren't good. Everyone says we've got our basis covered in defence for the future, well things aren’t quite so rosy…

I HATE reading his articles with his stupid, ridiculously short annoying sentences!

Chris McDermott. Poor writer. Frustrating.

Haha too true! I don;t think he ever has actually constructed a paragraph. He also always refers to West lakes when talking about the Crows.

Can anyone tell me what this means??
"Ken McGregor couldn't find a place in an injury riddled line-up. Go Figure!"
Most supporters were aware that Ken was injured for lots of the year and his late form showed his was too slow for down back and was really only a kick and mark player who could only be used from the goal square.Proven correct again for the Eagles against North. What is this Go Figure rubbish??

He also said that" the Crows were negligent for not getting involved in the meat market last year". Polak, Akermanis,Tarrant , Solomon and Cain Ackland were looking for new homes. Did he seriously think any of those were possibilities at the Crows??

"Attitude was an issue all year. That message came loud and clear from the leadership group." Where was this message indicated?

Sorry Chris, you still continue to exude bitterness for some strange reason.

not as disastrous as yours drummond:thumbsd:

If you are serious about doing well next yr you could not seriously contemplate trading the birdman, he is our go to man up forward. His view on campbell is spot on too, if he wants to make it at AFL level he needs to show something that splits him from the rest. He only got one match, but he ddint exactly show that.

Why so much hate for the inaugral captain?

Isnt one allowed a view? or does everything have to be rosey to be acceptable?

Burton should never be traded, and even if he was, what the heck do you expect to get for him? it simply aint worth it.

Mcgregor should have always been played as a stay at home forward, thats his best, he aint quick enough for defence, and their are half a dozen better players their anyway.

But surely 4 goals proved that Adelaide stuffed up big time the way they handled him.

these two sentences in toidays paper, back to back sum up Mcdermott

He is clearly not reading his own column (dont blame him)

"negligent" not to trade for these players?

Onley one (Polak) had even an adequate year and he comes with a heap of off field issues

I'd consider the Freo trade of pick 7 and Medhurst for tarrant the worst trade of the year

as for Cain Ackland he would have been a handy 9th ruckman, just behind

Huddo/Griffen/Maric/Meesen/Tippet/Biglands straight from recovery room/Kenny/Porps and Steven Schwerdt

Rubbish writer, still bitter with Crows for making him retire at age 43

That one takes the cake. The guy doesn't have a clue!

always talking up a particular player (he said the Crows HAD to go after McDougall), always talking down another (Meesen).

Oh and you never talk up particular players (Meesen, Pfeiffer, Campbell) and never talk down players (Perrie, Mcintyre)

Get ya hand off it Drummond

I agree with you Bones is a ****in idiot with no clue, but you've exposed yourself as nothing but a bias hypocrite in this post, well, actually in most of your posts.

None of those are proven at AFL level yet. I think its fair for McDermott to say that this kid will need a weapon if he is going to make it at AFL level.

Note: im not saying that Bryce does not have qualities, or that he wont be a good player, but its severe premature ejaculation for you to suggest that hes there already.

Yeah well in 50% game time it's going to be tough eh?

I have, have I?

He might finish his career with only 1 game for all I know. But I believe he has the hunger and the talent to make a career at AFL level.

Not the point unfortunately.

They arent proven to exist yet. Ive said nothing about whether hes had the opportunity to prove them.

What is that, eye roll smilie number 8000 this year? I suggest you visit an optomitrist, you appear to have a serious problem.

You have. You said he is a very good player. Unfortunately theres nothing which makes him worthy of this title at this stage.

 How long has your love child(s) been on the Crows list though? It's not like they haven't been given chances to prove themselves - obviously just not good enough. One has an attitude problem and one struggles to make the Norwood league side, you're extremely bias so I know you wont agree but you gotta face it, none of your boys are gonna make it in the AFL.

For someone that trolls the Crows at every possible chance; you seem to be on the Crows board alot....

That one takes the cake. The guy doesn't have a clue!

Jarman said the same thing. He suggested the Crows try and trade Maric because he was immobile and offered nothing around the ground.

That is hypocritical Port Adelaide bullshit, when James and Francou came out and spoke about trying to attract more supporters they were attacked by Rucci in the media and criticised by many Port supporters, Port supporters are the last to lecture about being able to handle constructive criticism by past players.

Francou aint a captain, and I never criticised them

So open your other eye, this aint Bay 13, I aint trolling so stop ruining the thread.

One more classics from McDermott:

Reilly played 47 of 49 games in 2005 & 06. And because he suffered an ankle injury, came back too soon and missed a few games, according to Bones he’s as injury prone as Chad Gibson.

“Injury again hindered his promising year”

“…but his body is also a concern”

“…if he can become more resilient”
Get a clue Chris.

Jarman said the same thing. He suggested the Crows try and trade Maric because he was immobile and offered nothing around the ground.

Maric is more than capable of kicking a few goals when he plays in the forward line as well as playing in ruck. Saying that he offers nothing around the ground is bizarre by Jarman...

John Meesen. Has McDermott ever finished a sentence without adding how much he hates Meesen?

It was not much less than three years ago that McDermott reckoned that Meesen would be the Crows next captain. So yes, he is prone to some stupid comments is McDermott but I thought most of his assessments were pretty fair. I agreed with him on Campbell. And although I don't think Maric is is any danger of being let go, and nor should he, he did have a disappointing year.

Personally, if I had a coaching record as poor as Chris I'd be a little less definite in some of my opinions. Things are not always as black and white as McDermott seems to think.
