Chris Tarrant - Did we do the right thing?

mate, tarrant is nothing more than a handy 2nd or 3rd string fwd, living on a couple of grabs he took years ago. just the same as kent is living on the 70 or 80 odd he kicked in 02 or 03. tarrant is nowhere near as good as people make him out 2 be, and it took people a long time 2 realise kingsley was a waste of space playing as a key fwd. no crack pipe here son!

for once in their history, collingwood did do the right thing. tarrant reminds me of kent kingsley. has 1 good year where he kicks a few goals, becomes the focal point down forward, then gets the best defender and cant hack it.

both kingsley and tarrant are good 2nd or 3rd string fwds, whilst tarrant was at collingwood and kingsley at geelong, they were always going 2 b seen as the focal point up fwd. rocca has passed it, so tarrant was in most peoples eyes a natural successor to rocca as the focal point up fwd.

tarrant will never b a superstar, but will b a handy pick up for freo as pavlich is always going 2 get the best defender, i dont know who collingwood got for tarrant, but hopefully (eventhough i do naturally hate collingwood) he will be a better player in the long run. tarrant will chip in for 40 or 50 goals a year at freo, medhurst, whilst he is a hungo, is a miraculous player.

kingsley should go well at richmond as richo always gets the number 1 defender and he should have the same year (goals wise) as taz. but put simply, with all the expectation on tarrant at the pies, he was never going 2 live up 2 it, so, in the end, better 2 get rid of him, ease the pressure on the cap, and get on with life

Tarrant wasn't getting the 2nd or 3rd best defender at Collingwood, especially in 2003. Kingsley is just a dud who is past it. Tarrant has a crap load more talent, and has put together more good season than him.

Good trade for both teams I reckon. Tarrant has been great for us. If he has kicked straight = AA. As it is still very good for us.

But I tell yo one thing... Medder will never, ever be a midfielder.
And Tarrant will never be a ruckman. So what, Medders might have drifetd upfield a few times and some people have thrown around some wierd ideas about him as a midfielder, but we haven't used him as a midfielder, he has actually played very well as an impact forward when he has been able (see todays Age). Davis is the one they have pushed upfield and it hasn't been 100% successful, although it will take him time to adapt.

Pavlich and Taz have no chemistry whatsoever.

QUOTE]

Being serious here. Are you for real? Watching them all year I definitely disagree. Off the top of my head, which KPP forward duo is doing better for goals and goal assists?
taz was very good at goal assists at the pies and probably still is at freo,i wouldn't know this year because i refuse to watch freo, adelaide, sydney, and hawthorn

But I tell yo one thing... Medder will never, ever be a midfielder.

No one cares about that. Medhurst does his damage in the forward line - likewise Chris Tarrant - where he averages 2 goals per game this year which is a pretty good effort to date, as long as he converts he will be a good contributor. Collingwood and Fremantle should be happy with their new recruits, don't you agree? Pick 8, Ben Reid, is an exciting prospect.

Realistically this is a question that is probably years away from being answered. I was a fan of Tarrants but I understand why some were not. AA key position forwards are gold and shouldnt be given up easily. We have taken a gamble and are relying on Hines judgement to come up with something better. The ends of the spectrum are Reid turns into our next Roach and Medhurst fades into obscurity while Taz stars in a Freo flag versus Tarrant becoming the next big nightclub disaster in the West while Medhurst becomes a key midfielder and Reid the next Adam Goodes leading us to multiple premierships. The reality prob lies between these extremes I'm hoping it involves B&W flags at least. Heres hoping Hines is a genius!!!

Looks like the answer arrived early

Very true.

I suppose the old cliche about the leopard and its spots applies here.

Yep shows our caoches knew what they were doing, i know ther is an uproar about it now but can you imagine if he was still at Collingwood.

will we be a better team or not if he had stayed?

Perhaps not on the field this season but for the development of the younger players and the future we'll be many times better for it.

From this latest incident its obvious that nothing has changed with Tarrant and having these types of incidents by senior players doesn't set a good example for our many younger players.

Not to mention the way Cloke has stepped up in Tarrant's absence or the performance of Reid and Brown in the future.

We might have been a better team on field this year but overall we're much better off that Taz has gone.

Right now maybe trav has done as much, in the future we are much better off without him

Trav is missing just as many shots as Taz did, but he is also taking contested marks and giving us a solid presence across half forward long term. We are far better off.

Taz is not a key forward and I'm surprised Freo didn't give him a big pre-season and put him on the wing where he should be.

I was in Adelaid for work today, in the paper, every article about the Tarrant incident referred to him as "former collingwood player"

ffs, he is a current Fremantle player, call a spade a spade.

Yes we are better off. In relation to players like Tarrant and Davis (Pizza eating Nick type) sure decent footballers, Premiership winners on their own? Not even close. Will Tarrant and Davis hang around and help rebuild a young team like Wakelin and say Burns may, not likely. They would tool off somewhere else, because unless they are the centre of the universe they aren't interested. Unless those sort of players are firing you almost have to use them as trade bait, because they serve no other purpose. look at em now, hot and cold and at least one in the sheizen again.

Can we please please please stop asking these questions here! Do it on the AFL board or something! Let other fans discuss it!

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucking heeeellllll!!

Same reason we got rid of C Cloke, we want to have a positive, stable influence from our senior players OFF the field. We have too many youngsters that need a positive influence from the likes of Buckley, Rocca and Burns, not idiots like Tarrant, Cloke ect.

It is also not a great loss ON the field either, we have T Cloke, he is fufilling Tarrant's role PERFECTLY. Also taken his negatives in missing easy shots too lol

I think this topic will be dropped when a Chris Dawes, or a Sean Rusling are in our forward line on a consistent basis. But seriously, to all the kiddies, stop looking at statistics, C Tarrant is a bad influence, and there are only positives in him leaving CFC, whether its for draft picks or simply beind delisted. Read the news papers to see why.

you have no idea what you are talking about. you should wipe your fingers sometime or your keyboard will start to smell like your mouth. kingsley is a hack full stop and will be dropped for this week's game vs. melbourne. tarrant could be a star if he would stop going to nightclubs and do stupid shit. doesn't matter who you play on kingsley, he is not afl material. on his day tarrant make any great defender look ordinary.

Tarrant's days arrive almost as regularly as RICHO!!'s Mick has done Freo again this time trading a inconsistent big name for a useful small forward he couldn't lose Medhurst was inconsistent anyway they both were and at the moment Mick is the much happier coach on that deal
