Multiplat Civilization 6

Is the base game still considered good, just about everything i read or watch has the expansions included so it is hard to know what is involved with the base game and what is included with the expansions. I have played hundreds of hours with each civ games up to 4 i think so not completely new to the games, just don't know much about civVI.
Thinking of getting this for ps4 but only the base game, even with the expansion on sale atm i still have no intention of paying there price. There was no reason why the expansions shouldn't have been included with the game as one package but to then price the dlc just about the same as the main game is just ridiculous

The base game is just fine. Its probably not as good as IV or V with add-ons, but a perfectly acceptable game.
Quite different from IV, but if you sunk hours into earlier gasmes then there's no reason base VI wouldn't be enjoyable. There was a demo for PC, very limited with only 30 turns or something. Steam still seems to have that available (I haven't checked, I am assuming it is still a base game only demo) if you want to just see it on PC first, assuming that is an option, or there may be similar for consoles.
Quite a few people like V more than VI base game when VI came out, but that was probably V with expansions.

I haven't played Vic IV, but I have played Civ V.

From my experience tbe big difference between Civ V and Vic VI is the introduction of districts, how wonders are built and the combat between units/city.

In Civ V a city can defend itself automatically with range attacks and it doesn't really change except building walls to increase the city HP. In Civ VI a city can't attack unless if the city builds walls. When the city builds walls it gets the abilty to attack and also gets a blue health bar over it's normal green HP bar. This makes taking cities a lot more trickier because you need various units (including support units) to take a city because some units (e.g. siege units) damage the blue health bar more than other units. Though there are support units such as battering rams and sieve towers that makes other units such as malee units effective.

The other big change is the districts. These are effectively a tile you designate to build culture, science, gold etc. You pretty much have to build buildings on a tile rather than all of them being in the city tile. The amoun t of districts a city can build is determined by populafion. This means you are effectively specializing a city.

You also have to dedicate a tile for a wonder if you want to build one. I must admit I was a wonder whore in Civ V and had about 15+ wonders in my capital. In Civ VI you can't really do that. Also there are certain conditions who which needs to be met to build a wonder (E.g. it can only built on hills or it has to be next to a certain type of district).

I haven't played Civ IV, but the big changes from my understanding between Civ IV and Civ V (which is also In corporated in Civ VI) is the introduction of hexagon tiles rather than square and you are only allowed to have one combat unit on one tile rather than having multiple combat units.

the year is 2016 and 3 barbarian mechanical infintary start attacking Perth.

Seems legit!

I don't even get up to 2016. Whenever I try to go for the science victory I keep on inadvertently getting the cultural victory. I don't even have a Culture district in any of my cities.

I think it's probably because I tend to expand my empire, prevent others expanding and build a lot of wonders. I have turned the culture victory off in my current play through so I can achieve the science victory.

That would be an enemy spy recruiting partisans against you.

I downloaded this for the first time in a couple years for a few games over Christmas as a change of pace. "Just one more turn" turned into going to bed at about 5am 3 days in a row. Have since purchased the Civ packs and Gathering Storm. Now I've got waltzing Matilda stuck in my head. I like some of the improvements in Gathering Storm from simple things like river, sea and desert names to the diplomacy. Not real keen on stuff like disasters and environmental change when I'm still trying to get my groove back in regards to early settlement, build orders and optimal research.

I need to stop just trying to make coin and actually go for some sort of win though. Still having a blast regardless. Had a funky alternate reality the other day. I was a democratic Russia, allied with America, and communist Greece declares war on us. So I nuked them.

Is it worth getting Rise and Fall for the Civs if I've already got Gathering Storm? I got GS because it carried the ruleset over but obviously didn't come with the Civs. $16 at the moment I think on Steam.

Haven't played since Civ 2 on PC or the original Civ Revolution on the iPad before it got destroyed by the in game purchase scourge but picked it up for the xbox.

How many civs do people play against? Think the default is 6 which seems too many to me if playing on a smaller map.

How do you get the other Civs to come up on the RB menu where you can propose trades etc? Meeting them isn't enough, nor sending envoys. It seems it is largely dependent on the other nations. Russia, France, Greece seem to always come up automatically. Is it some tech they have but you need to research down the line to get the others? Just seems random to me atm.

On PC you just click on the leaders icon at the top of the screen during one of your turns. It will bring up their dialogue screen. Then go down to "Make Deal" or whatever it is.

Only 1/2 of the other 5 civs come up on the menu though. Even though I have met them and sent them envoys etc. That's why I think there has got to be something that I'm missing to trigger them being added to the menu.

I think the default is the small map which has 6 Civs as a default. Though I rarely play the default settings. You obviously can change the map size and how many Civs you want to play on it (though there is a limit to how many).

I have only been playing for about a week myself so maybe mistaken but maybe it is the city states you are meeting who don't have leaders but have there own option in the RB menu.

I normally play on a huge ma[p with as many civs as possible and heaps of city states

There's usually a little arrow to scroll across to the other Civs that aren't currently displaying, is that there?

Or if you click on one Civ to talk to them the rest should display down the left hand side?

So gaining control of the skies is a real game changer.

Building up a good squadron of bombers allows you to captures cities with extreme ease. Possibly making it a little too one sided and easy

Yep or if it's a coastal based map getting battleships first lets you crush all before you.

Nothing can top the Giant Death Robots though. I once destroyed an entire Civ with just two of them.

I recently played a Pangaea game with all victory conditions except domination turned off and and ended up with about a dozen or so GDRs tromping all over the map. Things went even quicker once I accidentally discovered that they can take cities. I just assumed they were like any other ranged unit, plus I rarely play a game to the stage where I have them to begin with.

Civilization 6 is getting another update starting on May 21

New Frontier Pass will be rolled out over the next 10 months with 6 major updates plus a number of free updates.
