Multiplat Civilization 6

Looks like the Vesuvius expansion rumours might be correct. Expect a reveal Wednesday, for a 14 Feb release.

edit: named "Gathering Storm" apparently.
  • New civs (which ones is not released yet, but at least one looks Pacific Island related)
  • Some tweaks to some civs due to new mechanics
  • New "Future Era"
  • Diplomatic points earned through disaster relief, etc, and used in World Congress including new diplomatic victory
  • Semi-random disaster events (volcanoes, floods, droughts, blizzards etc) - the "semi-" part is not going to win favour with those who don't believe in climate change
  • Changes to the way resources work, build stockpiles which get used (including for unit build and maintenance). Seems to be a "power" resource, possibly electricity related but that is just a guess.
  • Map changes : mountains near continent borders; new tile types; flood plains changed (bonus yields after a flood)

Personally, I'm dubious on the Future Era stuff or too much randomness in the event system.

Basically a year to day from the last xpac announce.

Two of the new civs have been announced, Hungary (Matthias Corvinus) and Maori (Kupe). The Maori civ is interesting as you begin on an ocean tile.
There will be 5 new districts in Gathering Storm, Canals, Dams, Seasteads are the known one at the moment. Aqueducts, City Centre , Harbour and Industrial districts will all be revamped.
Also, a lot of buildings in the game from the end of the tech-tree will require power to function at max-productivity. This will be interesting as strategic resources )coal, oil etc..) will be revamped so they deplete over time.

Two further civs have been released (Canada - Wilfrid Laurier and Inca - Pachacuti) with a fifth civ to be released tomorrow.
One of the new features I think could be interesting is active terrain. i.e. floods, droughts, volcano eruptions etc...

Have the expansion packs improved the game play?

Was really looking forward to civ 6 but my very first game was so ridiculously easy with me just destroying everyone with ease and no one challenging me back that I got so bored and never played it again. Did i just get very lucky that game and its usually as challenging as previous civs which I loved?

The fifth civ is Mali, which looks like a very good desert civ.
Between Canadia and Mali, some of the not so good tiles have been brought more into play. I like that.

And the Maori start system could get interesting. Even not playing as them, if they start nearby the resource race could hot up quickly.

Mali will be fighting Australia for the desert tiles (the outback station turns desert tiles into production dynamo's especially if there is a pasture nearby) and Canada and Russia will fighting for the tundra and snow tiles.
Civilization 6 has been improving with every Developer update/expansion not only because of the tweaks they make to the game play, but the new civs and leaders they introduce.
The Maori's look very interesting, they are going to be the first new civ I try when GS is released next month. But I'm only going to play them once, then I'm going back to playing Australia and I'm going to crush them.:) In Civ 6, genocide is good.:D

I pre-purchased it. Hell, it's Civ and it's bound to be good. The major expansion pack two plus years after release is always killer. Now we have Mali vs Australia for deserts and Canada vs Russia for tundra. This will be fun.

When did the Aussies get added to Civ? Haven't played since maybe Civ 2 but tempted to get it. How much is it? Might wait til it drops in price but we will see.
Aussies were released about 18 months ago. Put it on your watch list on Steam, you can get some great discounted Civ 6 bundles during
sales.

Best bet is to wait for one for the sales and pick up at a decent discount.

I hate it when they release teasers MONTHS out. NOBODY likes long waits or to be kept hanging. One more month to go now, and hopefully enough new stuff to make the game playable again (once you play something hundreds of times, you can probably play the odd game here and there before getting bored easy)

Easy mode is way to easy, hard mode is way to hard.
They need like slide bars when setting up games for things like
Computer Player Strength, with 50% being on par with you, slide back for weaker, slide forward for stronger
Computer player aggressiveness, same as above, but instead it dictates how often your opponents declare war. In many games at some point, the Computer teams just do nothing.

Along with many other things. This will allow us to balance the game into what suits us. Seems to be many people complaining about no level being optimal enough for them

Could be so many more resources.

City states need to be stronger and be able to recover from attacks and the like. Seems that once the game progressive, city states themselves stop doing anything or creating units. Should be able to trade resources to them to encourage growth and quality of units and buildings

Designing and making your own custom maps should be a feature.

Age Of Empires is looking at making a comeback, Civilization needs to be on its feet and pick up some of the traits that made Age Of Empires great in its time

Civilisation 6 was a disaster. Ai is utterly hopeless. Makes the game so boring its unplayable.
way to kill it for me

They honestly need to create more options in the settings section. Imagine a slide bar that dictates the AI ability

AI Strength (how strong they are compared to you attack and defence wise)
AI Aggressiveness (how often they declare war)
AI Expansion Rate

Just to kick start some. But they need to make them more intelligent as well. To easily predictable

And have the city states be more active. They all just fade away later in the game, traders sitting still, more resoucres that could be improved but instead workers just sit there, armies vanish. Can be similar to the AI as well

I find Civ 6 is a boring click fest after awhile

I find the AI much easier compared to Cic 5.

In Civ 5 I had a lot of difficulty beating the Diety mode but in Vic 6 I found it a lot easier. Then again, it may also because some Civs are way over powered such as the Aztecs and Nubia (Aztecs because of the builder ability to add to the construction of districts and Nubia because of their early archer unit and cheap construction of archers).

I see this is coming to PS4. Nice, I might have to break my Civilization virginity.
