You just completely ignored the next 3 sentences and quoted that to make a snide remark that isn't even true, you're better than that.

Sorry, but as someone who spends a large chunk of their time in Japan I find the term kind of silly.

The irony of making it a Western vs Japanese thing is just funny, by using a term that is almost exclusively used by western gamers in the first place.

Anywaaay, shame the game isn't for you in any event, I think it is really quite good.

I didn't coin the term, the wider gaming community and reviewers do, and their definition of it generally refers to the turn based RPGs like old FFs, Persona, DQ. It ain't me that make it up

I didn't make it western vs japanese for this game, the game reviewers did, loads of them are like "oh it's turn based but I can actually play it because it doesn't have anime or silly writing or whatever in it!", it also doesn't have traditional JRPG elements either but they don't care about that

I think people wouldn't give this game a 2nd thought if it wasn't made by a western studio with enough backing money to hire Andy Serkis and motion capture top VAs. If it's another Japanese game, the rose tinted glasses would come off

And I think that is an insanely reductive and unfair take. Going to have to agree to disagree.

The main thing that turns me off JRPG’s is the time commitment. Most of them are 60-100 hours minimum with a slow pacing. You almost need to put in 20 hours to see if you like it.

This game is different compared to the bland stuff I normally play, but very good. One day I'll fix my skill issue timing parries.

Haven't even progressed far and I'm already telling others to play it.

I knew it would be great from the trailer. About 12 hours in on hard mode, so probably not that far into story. Buts it's the best game in years. Probably on par with Balders Gate atm.

Absolutely compelling story. First game in forever I actually look forward to cut scenes. Opening was just mind blowing beautiful. They've somehow made turn based combat visceral, executing parries just feels so great in the hands. The slow drip world building on par with the Souls games, you just want to know more about the lore at every step.

This. Absolutely this.

I am constantly hoping for more cutscenes. And genuinely look forward to talking to my party at camp. Reminds of how I felt about BG 3.
Yep,
The cutscenes are good since they rarely over stay their welcome. I also like the pause feature so you can go get a drink and sit back and relax.

I was going to wait but couldn't resist and booted this up tonight. I love turn based games so it's right up my alley.

Can't speak much of the game yet but want to just say something about UE5. UE is copping a lot of crap lately and a lot of it is fair, but UE5 is the reason games like this are possible with smaller teams. Despite being really bloated and heavy to run it's a really powerful engine with every feature you can think of. Some of the latest features make it so you can do even more in-engine once you've imported something in and you don't need to keep tweaking it outside.

It looks great but I feel like the look will get dated a lot in the next few years. So much detail yet the main character can’t jump over a tiny rock.

I seem to go from weak to unstoppable very fast in an area, especially if you can nail parries.

I’m like it and it managed to get me to give up Blue Princes end game never ended one more thing.

Finsihed it last night on normal difficulty, may go again on NG+
Great story, music and graphics, feel like they really used UE5 well.
Towards the end of the game I started to feel it drag a bit on some trash mobs, too much bullet sponge stuff.
I would have been happy if the game ended with defeating the Paintress.
Can see how many are talking about GOTY for this one, I'm not sure on that but it was a fantastic game.
