Not only did Lyon not win a flag, but he left the two lists in pretty bad places when he left them as well.
Mind you, Clarkson did the same at the Hawks, but at least he gave them 4 flags so they wouldn't care.

And Leigh Matthews didn’t go through a process at Brisbane. The Eagles head hunted Malthouse, both turned out great.

Lyons right. Proven coaches get identified and chosen.
Sure there’s an interview etc, but there’s no need for this long process if the coach has been in the game for years, and their record, philosophies etc are there for all too see.

People seem to just pick words nowadays and say them, simply because they’ve heard the word.

So long as Lyon plays attacking footy, I'd like to see him do well at the Saints, hopefully win a flag.

If instead he goes for the dour 'keepings off', role players across the field mitigating the opposition gameplan...

...then **** him. Hope he fails to make finals three years in a row and gets unceremoniously turfed

It would be good to see an attacking Saints side again. The mid-00s to ~'10 produced some good footy at times.

Do you remember when the Saints were flying? It was pretty fun to tune in on Friday nights for a while there

Not great, just couldn’t get the developing thing right. He wasn’t the man for a rebuild.

Well having a number of meetings is a process of some sort is it not . You know people do get headhunted for jobs it’s not like it’s a unheard of process

In 09 and 10 st kilda averaged 100 points a game so it’s a bit of a misconception that Lyon was a purely a defensive coach

It sounds like you're just worried about Clarkson and Lyon returning and giving Chris Scott some tougher competition.

Also the matter with Lyon has been resolved to a satisfactory conclusion for all the parties concerned and he wasn't even sacked at Freo for it at the time so why should that prevent him from going back into coaching now?

Clarkson might have a problem if the allegations against him are proven correct but they are still unproven allegations at this stage so you can't rule him out of coaching again either.

Saints are the furtherest club from a flag in the comp. Roos ahead of them by 2 years since the Saints think their list is good enough to play finals. Even if they fluked it, they still have to do a full rebuild.

We beat you this year, didn't you win the premiership? Did North beat Geelong? 2 years ago we played finals, beat Dogs and lost to Tigers.

But still we are furthest club from a premiership, okay bud.

Big question marks on both these guys being able to loosen the shackles and play the attacking footy of today’s game when they both loved defensive/tempo footy so much.

Oh the rejection! - one who is embroiled in god knows what & the other who is too far up himself to go through a hiring process!

We dodged a bullet in both cases.
