Collingwood Vice Captain James Clement is the winner of the E.W Copeland Trophy for the second consecutive year.

In a close count Clement (48 votes) finishing just two votes ahead of second place Brodie Holland (46 votes) followed by 3rd place Shane Wakelin (38 votes) and a fourth place tie with Shane O’Bree and Simon Prestigiacomo (37 votes).

Clement played every game this season and carried the responsibility of Captain for the majority of the year.

After crossing from Fremantle in 2001, Clement has played 110 games for Collingwood, won the Bob Rose Trophy 2002 (Best Player Finals), the JJ Joyce Trophy 2002 (3rd Best & Fairest) the Copeland Trophy 2004 (Best & Fairest) and All Australian selection in 2004 and 2005.

Coach Michael Malthouse was delighted with the result saying “in a difficult year it was important that players stood up in constantly changing team. Jimmy lead by example both on and off the ground and not only has been high recognised by the Collingwood Football Club but also by the AFL with his All Australian selection. I would like to congratulation him on a wonderful and consistent effort.

I would also like to congratulate Brodie Holland on a wonderful achievement. This was achieved by a player who dedicated himself to maximise his abilities and lead by example on the ground.”

Other award winners were Nick Maxwell (Best Clubman) Shane Wakelin (Gavin Brown Award) and Travis Cloke (Best First Year Player).

James Clement 48 - Out & out star at the club, should be skipper next year
Brodie Holland 46 - great year, went from tagger to ball winner, needs to take a big step next year.
Shane Wakelin 38 - very under-rated in the league, got a lot of votes just because the ball was down back so much.
Shane O’Bree 37 - too hot & cold, polled well because he's in the middle, would like to see his kicking get better.
Simon Prestigiacomo 37 - I love this bloke, never stops trying, hasn't got much skill and plays on the 1st key forward every week. one of the best full backs going around.
Paul Licuria 36 - another good year, gives 100% every week
Tarkyn Lockyer 36 - had a bad year imo by the standards he's set in the past, should be used off the bench next year in the forward line giving Dikak a rest.
Scot Burns 34 - always in the top 5 pies.
Nick Maxwell 31 - the best of the young ones this year, played "every game??" and while he holds down a spot, could see that changing next year if he doesn't take another big step. needs to work on his kicking & tackling.
Blake Caracella 30 - good first year at the club until got hurt, his goal kicking went down hill this year and a good preseason should see him back to his best next year, would love to see him play 90% in the forward line tho.

I absolutely LOVE Nick Maxwell winning the Darren Millane Trophy.

It shows that he's a hard worker and that he loves the club. I have no doubts this kid will keep working.

Well Done Jimmy

2 Copeland Trophies
2 All-Australian selections
2 Years

James Clement 48 - Great season by the defender who did his job every week.
Brodie Holland 46 - Big improver in his overall game as a midfielder. Worked hard all season.
Shane Wakelin 38 - Stood out with his courage in defence. Underated footballer.
Shane O’Bree 37 - Back to his better form of when he came to the club. Shut up plenty of the Magpie Army with his performances.
Simon Prestigiacomo 37 - Back bone of the defence, he had some very good games.
Paul Licuria 36 - Ball winner, especially early, before dropping off, despite still consistent.
Tarkyn Lockyer 36 - Leading Kicker at the club, and despite not such a great year, he stepped up as a senior player in maturity.
Scott Burns 34 - Performed at a level each week. Sir Scotty Burns wasn't at his best, but still was consistent.
Nick Maxwell 31 - Next big thing at Collingwood. Tough and will be a valuable player next year, thats for sure.
Blake Caracella 30 - Played most games, while he also played some rippers mid season.

I wonder what system they applied in awarding votes during the last three rounds of the season when you were on the tank.

Well done Jimmy!! A bit surprising it was so close though..

J Cloke winning the best VFL player award should show Mick how hard he works for the club. He will be back I hope.

Mick wouldn't give a ********...if Jason Cloke has one bad game next year, expect him to be taking home the VFL Player award once again

Yeah, because the Hawks finished the season so conviningly as well? Geez get out of the glass house :)

Congrats to Jimmy...... good season.

O'Bree is an indication of how poor we were around the board. Holland Clement and maybe Wakelin were easily stand outs and Holland and Wakes had average years. O'Bree coming 4th is not much of a suprise once you analyse it. Our voting system gives points to each player, not the top 3 or 5 players each round. In the first part of the season when we were really struggling he was consistantly in our best but not necessarily in top our best 3, he was also #1 in the AFL in tackling for a while which of course would get him votes from the coaching staff. He had a bit of a puprle patch for a while when we were winning which would of gave him even more votes.

It is hard to judge the Millane award since it is an interior matter within the club. But I am happy that a player as young as Maxwell, coming from the rookie list pretty much out of nowhere (his performances in the VFL were average, not outstanding, hard to impress as a defender in the VFL).

Tell me if I'm wrong but the Brown award for courage hasn't been handed out before has it? Is this the first time it's been handed out?
