Climate science aside I am not comfortable with the exploitation of this young person who has admitted to being suicidal and severely depressed in her recent past because of her fears about the future of world. She is a troubled adolescent, yet the political left is happily taking advantage of her, it is gross and will probably not end with her in a better place any time soon.

What do you expect? For her to read the scientific findings? She doesn't have to go through the mass of data & analysis. That's what the scientists have done & are doing. She's getting in the faces of the political hypocrits.

I remember the peak oil scares of 15 years ago.

Now, peak oil did happen. Conventional oil is well into decline and oil prices have been much higher over the past 15 years on average than the previous 15.

But those high prices have enabled unconventional sources and efficiency gains took up a lot of the slack. No one drives Hummers anymore, hybrids, electric cars and fuel efficient 4 cylinder cars are now mainstays.

However none of the James Kunstler et al predictions of a Mad Max dystopia by 2012 came to pass. None. We still do more air travel than ever before. People still drive to work. Plastics are ubiquitous: too ubiquitous if anything.

Of course this will all come to an end someday, but this absurd millenarian paranoia being instilled in kids is ridiculous. Adults who do this are pathetic.

There is always something to keep the general population in fear...acid rain, Amazon deforestation, AIDS, ebola, mad cow disease, bird flu, swine flu, the ozone layer, global cooling, global warming, nuclear power stations, WMDs!!! . What happens to these "really really seriius guys" issues? They just fade away as the next fear is rolled out.

I kind of get the conspiracy theorist ideas of keeping populations inline with fear, but am more inclined to think it is political and news media negligence/preservation of self interest.

What I expect is that children do what children do...because they are children. Let them be children.
