There are no words I can find to describe how ******* dumb these people are.
Protesting or rather “partying” in the streets to piss hundreds of thousands off... yeah that’ll fix it.. and get everyone else on board too..

It's classic "look at moi" conduct.

They are poseurs.

Immaculate demolition.

..........and this is the problem when you put morons in charge of complex and potentially serious issues.

It gets ridiculed, dismantled, and dissipates.

Are we any wiser? No.

I'd almost believe that XR are a fossil fuel astroturf designed to sow doubt in climate change science if I didn't know a couple of well-meaning morons involved in the movement.

I actually want to know where the funding base has come from. These kinds of movements don’t pop up at such scale with such unified branding and messaging overnight - and they did pop up virtually overnight in April.

Seen it claimed somewhere that it is a re-branding of Antifa with a new 'message'.

It's a stage managed existential crisis for people who lack meaning in their lives.

It's sad on more than one level, because there are matters here that needs to be intelligently addressed.

I dunno about funding, but it's the same people involved in the Greens, Socialist Alliance, etc. I think it actually works on a mimetic level - the apocalyptic nature of it appeals to those drawn to millenarian cults.

Repped, I think it appeals to apocalyptic *******s with nihilism at the epicentre of their pathetic lives.

Is it such a surprise that a generation being raised that the colour of their skin, whether their genitals are innies or outies, whether they like innies or outies is what defines them in society, essentially who they are does not matter because the group they belong to defines who they are, would be struggling for a sense of purpose and identity?

When who you are doesn't matter but what you are does then you don't matter.

I wish they’d hurry up and get a job so they gain an understanding how inconvenient it is to be late for work because some you know people have to save the planet and stuff.
Or just anything in real life really.

Read capitalist realism. It's only 100 pages. Lots of interesting ideas about identity, emancipation, culture, mental health and capital.

I’m not even sure it’s generational. I have 3 girls 24, 22 and 14 and they all laugh at the protestors.
Their generations to me have been inspiring in a lot of ways for me and my generation. Watching them grow up in a hugely diverse and multi cultural society was amazing and it had me embarrassed thinking back to my generation at the same age. They have been largely responsible for mental health awareness, gender equality, acceptance many really positive things and often encouraged by their school and frankly it’s been great to watch and be involved in. But my 14 year old who has been raised by myself and her 2 mums for the last 12 years (yes I turned her 😆)who attends a public school that is populated by a very, very diverse demographic are encouraged to research, study or find the right pathways if something like climate change is of interest to them. And they are certainly in no way encouraged to be activists or inconvenience people with futile actions, far from it in fact. They think they are morons too.

IIRC there was research done saying that Gen Z/the iGen are one of the most conservative in a long long time - probably since the Greatest Generation.

Sorry to interrupt.

Just a question. Don't you agree that some of the following snippet from George Carlin is a bit strange coming from a so-called lefty?

We’re so self-important. Everybody’s going to save something now. “Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save those snails.” And the greatest arrogance of all: save the planet. Save the planet, we don’t even know how to take care of ourselves yet. I’m tired of this s**t. I’m tired of f-ing Earth Day. I’m tired of these self-righteous environmentalists, these white, bourgeois liberals who think the only thing wrong with this country is that there aren’t enough bicycle paths. People trying to make the world safe for Volvos. Besides, environmentalists don’t give a s**t about the planet. Not in the abstract they don’t. You know what they’re interested in? A clean place to live. Their own habitat. They’re worried that some day in the future they might be personally inconvenienced. Narrow, unenlightened self-interest doesn’t impress me.
Not at all; Carlin could spot hypocrisy from both sides. But this is a rant about people and their arrogance/insignificance. It’s not an endorsement of climate change denial. He actually says the earth is a closed system that will kill our asses if we * it up too much. You know, pretty much what environmentalists are saying. Save the planet does not mean protect it from oblivion forever because that’s impossible. It means keep it safe for humans just a little longer.

If you want to know what Carlin thinks of conservatives and corporations, try google. It’s all on the record.

Forced to summarise it in one sentence, Id say it's about the lunacy of anyone thinking we can save the planet.

Where in my post did I say it was? You're arguing against a straw man of your own creation.

He actually says the earth is a closed system that will kill our asses if we fu** it up too much. You know, pretty much what environmentalists are saying.
The same environmentalists he refers to as self-righteous, white, bourgeois liberals that don't give a s**t about the planet? I think your off-beat paraphrase is not quite what he says at all.

If you want to know what Carlin thinks of conservatives and corporations, try google. It’s all on the record.

Well aware, but that wasn't what my post was about.
