Cloke a work in progress

HOW much time does an AFL player have to prove himself?Carlton's Cameron Cloke is in his sixth season and has managed just 35 games.

Too long you might say?

Not if you saw how Cloke hit full-forward Brendan Fevola with a lace-out pass, more than once, against Geelong on Saturday night.

Here's a 196cm ruckman kicking a ball in front of his teammate so he doesn't have to break stride. Say no more.

And if you ask Cloke, who tackles Port Adelaide's Brendon Lade and Dean Brogan at AAMI Stadium on Sunday, it is just the beginning.

"I haven't had a full season since I've been in the AFL other than my first year when I played at Williamstown," said Cloke, who was drafted by Collingwood under the father-son rule in 2002.

"I don't think I've produced the best footy I could have, so hopefully I can just keep getting better and better."

A horrendous run with injury, particularly his shoulder, has failed to derail Cloke's career and the 23-year-old, who was picked up by Carlton in the 2007 pre-season draft, is determined to make the most of his good fortune.

As a result, Cloke has spent almost as many hours watching tapes of All-Australian Dean Cox as he has honing his kicking skills.

"I like to watch Dean Cox a fair bit and he gets a lot of handball receives around the ground and works his butt off," he said.

"That's how I want to play my footy and it's part of my game I've been working on a lot.

"My kicking wasn't the best thing at Collingwood, so I've been doing a fair bit of work on it at Carlton. It's been getting a lot better."

For someone yet to play 50 games, Cloke finds himself the elder statesman in a youthful ruck division at Princes Park.

----------------------------------------

Cloke since been drafted to the Blues has not put a foot wrong. always hard at the ball and keen to improve.

at 23 he is find for the blues........maybe he can pull down a forward role so Hampson and Kreuzer can fill those as i would hate to see him out of the side at the moment

If he can put away a full season without a serious injury it will do wonders for him.

last year before he went out with his shoulder injury, he showed that he has that bit of toughness that the team was lacking.

Unfortunately he did his shoulder and that was it.

Despite him being a Cloke, I like the guy :)

You've really got to hand it to CC, and the way he carries himself around the club is a credit to him. IF he can stay injury free, we might have just found quite a capable ruckman/forward. And geez, his kicking skills are pretty special for a big man.

He reminds me of me. Massive bloke with big heart and going places.
Sorry again about the broken hand after the handshake in Perth.
He is the Hammer of the Blues!

He is a player you want in your team. That image of him being knocked out against the dons and getting up and going again sticks with me. He has sensational delivery, as was shown in the first quarter when he passed to Fev a few times. I think the first quarter showed that in a year or two when Kreuz and Hammer can handle the ruck themselves, we have ourselves a very handy CHF.

Yeah I wont forget that, running another 2-3 metres and falling on his knees :thumbsu:

He is the only guy on our list that is capable of taking a big pack mark also! CC chf in 09 ;)

Honestly, how many of you guys actually rated Cameron Cloke when he was at Collingwood? Now he's a potential CHF?

Tries hard as a ruck and worth persisting with in that possie, but it's inconceivable he could hold down CHF at AFL level.

Is it really our job to rate players from other teams?

I stopped rating Murphy after he went to Essendon.
I stopped rating Bryan after he went to Collingwood.
I'll never stop rating Eddie Betts.

Every supporter does it.

Oh, and Cameron Cloke is the next Wayne Carey.

Originally concerned with this pick up... but he impressed me with his efforts.
easily in our best 22 and in our most important top 10

Stevens
Gibbs
Kreuzer
Fevola
Waite
Jamison

Maybe not for the future, but he's more important for our side right now than Hampson and Kreuzer. Bower, Jamison and Walker aren't even in the team at the moment.

Right now he's in our top 10 as far as importance goes, there's no doubt about that. When everyone is fit, he's still in our best 22 and is still a very important player.

Would Cloke be able to play at CHB? I do have time for him, has a lot of courage and is a big body as well.

After we give Kreuzer a rest this week I'd like to in the next few games try Hampson and Kreuzer rotating through the ruck whilst leaving Cloke at CHF to see how he goes. I think he has the potential to be very solid for us there and all we really need is a good marking target as this is the thing we mainly lack at the moment.

I rate Daggers. People need to realise how important a full pre-season is to a player's output through a season. This guy has shown he's got a big heart, he can take a pack mark and can smash Fev's sternum with 45 metre stab passes. Bargain pick-up.

I can't remember the amount of times where I've said that it would be great if we can put him in a key positon. We need him in the ruck however.
But he's more of a KPP who can have a turn in the ruck. You've got to love the way he gives his absolute heart and soul when he plays. And it doesn't matter whether he's a Cloke, a Cloke is fantastic when they're wearing a Navy Blue top.;)
C.Cloke, Scotland, Judd chose us over them, Greg Swann and Daicos's son barracking for Carlton. Thanks heaps Collingwood.:D:thumbsu:
