Just throwing this out there, and it may be something for the pies to consider in future years when JA, Reid and Dawes are more developed, but.....

-We know he's not the greatest kick in front of goals and that doesn't appear likely to change
-He is a man mountain, in the mould of Nathan Bock. A Huge rig who would be very hard to move in a marking contest.
-Fantastic tank
-Could potentially play a Chad Cornes role as well and create from across CHB.
-Allow a future forward line that looks like this:

McAff Dawes JA
Didak Reid Davis

and a spine like this

Dawes
Reid
Pendlebury
Cloke
Brown

Thoughts?

Whilst he could make a decent CHB I cannot see the other players mentioned ever being as good a focal point as Trav.

He is far too good in the forward line, especially for our structure, to even entertain the idea of playing him down back. This is despite the fact that he is held back by his poor kicking.

I actually agree wholeheartedly, I even think he could do a great job at FB! I see no reason to despise the idea, if JA and Dawes are booting a dozen a game between themselves and we we want a more open forward line then why not utilize Trav in other roles, I reckon it just sounds a ridiculous idea right now because he is a champion CHF and we don't have any others, but in a year or two we might, and I would love to see Trav crashing into Buddy and giving him a few of those 'angry-man' bear tackles where he hurls the opponent to the deck! reckon Buddy might be well and truly flustered by that!

The only thing worse than his goal kicking is his field kicking.

Although Travis is not, and never will be, a great kick, I think the criticism of his kicking on this board is over the top. His kicking at goal since the first third of the 07 season has been pretty respectable, particularly considering where he's taking a lot of his shots from. Yes, I suspect he'll always throw in the occasional shocker, but he's nowhere near as poor as some people make out.

V Silly.

You make two assumptions:

1) Dawes Macaffer and Reid make it and are able to hold their own.

2) Cloke would be better in the backline than O'Brien, N Brown, Presti, Goldsack, Shaw, Maxwell, L Brown, Johnson, Cox ....

Also, do you realise how many inside 50s he gets from the wings or centre?

But 9/10 of his field kicking are 50m hail mary's. This is not what you'd want coming out of defence. Anyway this whole talk is stupid, at this rate Reid, Cloke and Rusling will all be defenders. I'll keep Trav up forward.

Hasn't this been tried before? IIRC, I remember Cloke playing in defence a couple of times.

It's not the worst idea in the world. However Cloke's field kicking is amongst the worst we have, as has been mentioned his highly unlikely to be a creative back.

The main problem with the idea is Cloke is the focal point of the foward line at this stage. He is the strongest and most complete target. He works hard. Gets to the right areas. Has strong hands over head and on a lead and presents well and draws the ball. We have no other foward who has shown an ability to play that focal point as complete and dangerously. All of Reid, Rusling and Anthony to these stage are more often then not going to rely on the lead. Dawes on the other hand has shown 0 focal point ability. So to move Cloke would be a terrible move. It would take massive improvements for any of those other players to be a focal point any time soon. Anthony is on his way. Rusling probably won't get there as he will always have a dependance on the lead. Reid could get there if he continues to work of his strength base but still plays very R.O.K / Tarrant like accumulator role. Dawes could get there one day but is miles off at this point.

I think your right on his goal kicking. His field kicking is a different issue. I think especially considering our foward structure his field kicking into the foward 50 lets him down which is why I'd like to see him playing deeper and getting more shots on goal as opposed to trying to pin point a pass into the 50 which he is more then likely not able to make.

And move or probably impact on one and if not two of our most in form players being Reid and Howe - it's a neigh from me.
