Good to see some stability in the leadership group with only one change. Good mix of personalities there too.

Co-captains are never a good idea, in my opinion. Hopefully player driven, rather than Goodwin trying to make his mark in some fashion.

I wanted to be patient, but if the club thinks he's ready. Than i'm all for it. Good work Viney!

Meantime with that leadership group, writing on the wall for Col perhaps?

No point keeping a second string player in the leadership group. I suppose he'll only come back into the side if his form in the VFL is excellent.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that they wouldn't have made this change unless Jones was comfortable with it, and as such, I'm happy.

I think he'll really relish the role, and will be All Australian this year.

I often felt the same way about it. Especially now both Sydney clubs have finally moved away from it.

But doing thinking, co-captains are just like Captain and VC but the VC does a lot more to share the load really.

I would think it'd be player driven this time around

It's also not like last time where both Grimes and JT were kids. You've got a senior operator and a newbie.

Wonder if they tied in the voting too.

It does feel a little early. I mean Viney seems ready, but still has some things to work on imo. Still seems rather untapped at times, but i'm an outsider what would i know.

I feel that it will need to be closely monitored, Viney's competitive nature and want to succeed could probably drive some players mad. Theres something Rockcliff like about this, but i suppose that's why he's co captain and not replacing jones as sole captain.

I hope they share the role so that Viney takes responsibility for the younger guys and Jones for the older ones. I'm not sure how well it would go down Viney baking Vince, Lewis and co.

I don't reckon Nat ever really enjoyed the role and with him having a young family he would have had pressure at home and at work. This way he gets to reduce some of the work load.

This actually makes sense now that i think about it. He's obliged to captain, but it's a lot of work to do with off field commitments as well

Jones should be sole C
Viney will get his turn.

Bit early I thought
This. Viney has plenty of time to take this role. Should have let Jones continue while it was still working well.

I don't care if it's player driven or not. Players don't know how to structure a club.

Put away the Mark Neeld handbook, Goody...

This was already happening. But Viney doesn't need the title - he should continue his learning and development. We all knew he was going to be captain, but I think he could have learned more about the job before taking the responsibility.

Except that Viney isn't a ****ing deadshit.

Personally I'm not a fan of co-captains but as I don't know what's behind this decision, I'll assume it's a case of Viney "learning on the job" and Jones wanting to spend more time with his family.

Congrats Viney!

I tend to think of co-captains like a succession plan. if done right, it can work. If implemented wrong, you get collingwood's succession plan, and our leadership in 2013

Lets be honest though, if you looked at Rockcliff heading into the role at the time, you would have thought it was the right choice. They're a similar style of player and rockcliff went and did it himself and became a very harsh over the top captain. What i'm saying is this would have the same option to backfire, but he's got a good core around him with Jones sharing
