We seem to do better when we have a great unknown going into a season.

2012 - was just Longmire's second year and still seemed like that group was a year or two away from contending for a flag = we win the lot.

2014 - bring in the game's best forward alongside Tippett to shake up our whole forward line that worked in a flag year = win the minor premiership and reach a GF.

2016 - lost nearly 1000 games experience with players departing, plus started the year off with a handful of kids.. as well as the good old trade ban = win the minor premiership and reach a GF.

2018 - bundled out of the finals in a semi final disaster, presumably an influx of new faces given how many we've cut/retired already, and a shake up in the coaches box = ??

The years in between (13, 15 and this year) we went into those seasons with somewhat of a high benchmark set and we failed to live up to them. I give Horse a lot of flack but he's been bloody good at making sure this team keeps keeping on with no excuses. I think we're in safe hands, just not expecting a major improvement or change in game style
We've also won every single VFL/AFL premiership in a year ending with 18.

I'll now go come up with an equally obscure theory to say that we'll finish 7th

Doesn't matter how obscure, remote or even illogical, if the theory links us to a premiership - I'll take it!!!

I would love Cox at the Swans! Taubert has done fantastic work at the Swans but after 19 yrs it might be time for a change
Noooooo. Taubs is a gun. Why change it if it's working fine?

Look at what he got out of Pykey, Sinkers (a natural forward not a ruckman), Tippett (also a bloody FF when he arrived) and even Deano (A ruckman?! Ya what!?)... Taubs shouldn't be moved on unless he wants to go IMO.

So you are saying we are dead certs?
100% strike rate of winning premierships in years ending with 18. Dead certs.

Not too good in years ending with 8 though:

Missed finals in 1898
Missed finals in 1908
3rd last in 1928
Wooden spoon in 1938
3rd last in 1948
Missed finals in 1958
Missed finals in 1968
Missed finals in 1978
Missed finals in 1988
Lost semi in 1998
Lost in semis 2008

So just pick whatever theory you like.

Or in the past 5 years we are 100% at winning 14-17 games then falling apart in finals. Again, pick whatever you like.

Cox coming on as a stoppages/midfield coach I'm fine with. Despite playing ruck, he was a pretty damn good midfielder.
So what? What the hell has that got to do with his abilities as a coach?

Not picking on you specifically but it never ceases to amaze me the number of posters who assume that someone's abilities/style/attitude as a player match those as a coach. It also never ceases to amaze me the number of posters who state as a matter of fact that an assistant coach is/is likely to be great/crap/a great communicator/a terrible communicator/has a great or terrible 'football brain', without having a single solitary clue what the hell the guy is like.

I agree, the way the person played footy doesn't mean they'll be an identical coach. However, if you've got a fairly recently retired player (i.e. within the last 5 years) who is moving into coaching then it makes sense to start them where they've just had probably 10-20years of coaching themselves. Use all the first hand knowledge & experience they have attained over their playing career in that position to your strength IMO. A really great coach will be able to be empathetic & thus flexible with that advice/experience to tailor it to different players/positions etc. Initially though I reckon it makes sense to start them where they are comfortable & have recent experience.

Can't say how i know this, but Tom Harley was just minutes ago spotted giving Steve Johnson a full tour of the ground, facilities and offices.
Not unusual or newsworthy you may say! Well what very well may be newsworthy is the third person in the group - WCE's very own Big Cox!

Don't know what that might mean, but just thought I'd pass it on.
Big Cox seen in ouroffices.
