I somewhat geniusly predicted at the start of this season that Colin Sylvia would overtake Daniel Wells this year. North supporters, being the secluded people they are, laughed and scoffed and these statements, saying he will never be anything more then a hack. Well Sylvias last 4 weeks look like this:

24 possies (9 contested), 8 marks (2 cont), 1 goal
37 possies (8 cont), 6 marks, 4 goals
24 possies (4 cont), 9 marks, 1 goal
32 possies (9 cont), 11 marks (2 cont), 3 goals

A sensational month of football, i'm sure you agree.

So would you agree with me in saying he has 'overtaken' Daniel Wells? He is clearly the better player now IMO, even though North fans such as DarwinRoo are still in denial.

Sylvia has been amazing recently. Not only does he rack up the possessions, he is very damaging as well. It isn't like he picks up cheap kicks across half-back, he wins his own ball and plays with an explosiveness most players can only dream of.

If he can continue this sort of form, and play with consistency, I think Melbourne may finally have an elite player on their list.

One is having the best month of his career.
Wells has had better patches.
Wells wins.
Name one month in Wells' career where he has averaged 30 disposals, 8 marks and over 2 goals per match. Go on.

Stats, stats, stats.
Stats don't mean shit.
Wells was great towards the end last year.
Melbourne supporters are pretty defensive.
I know it's rare to have a player perform as well as Sylvia has, being a Melbourne supporter, but you have to realise there are 15 other teams.
Wells has done more in his career than Sylvia.
Wells has been injured this year.
Sylvia has had ONE good month.
ONE!
Get your hands off your ***** and wait another year.

Sylvia has arguably been the best player in the comp in the last 4 weeks.
Wells has had an injury hit year. Wells has had the better career to date.

True that Wells has had troubles with his groin this year.

But then if you look at it from another angle, Sylvia has had extremely bad OP from day one, and has only been able to manage it with strategic taping very recently. His best is still to come IMO.

I do like Wells, so hopefully he can get over his groin issues as it is probably one of the most debilitating injuries in football.

You said, and i quote:

Provide me with one of those 'better patches', or you lose.
OH noes!!1one I looos at de interwebs/!???/
You're basing someone's form on statistics alone.
A 'patch' of football doesn't necessarily mean one month.
For about 2 and a half months Wells was playing sensational football.
In one month averaged about 28 possies, but nobody is declaring him 'potentially elite'. :o
Give Wells an uninjured run first.
He was playing his best football at the end of last year.
One month doesn't mean Sylvia has 'overtaken' him.
But you ask us "Has Sylvia overtaken Wells as a player"?
NO! Wells is injured, give Sylvia the rest of the year.
Wells is still the better player.

I'm just asking you to back up your statements, which you obviously can't.
Give Wells an uninjured run first.
Can say the same about Sylvia, has had severe OP since day dot. Only now he is starting to get it under control we are seeing what he is capable of.

Wells has achieved more but Sylvia at his best is superior.

If Colin keeps his head screwed on in the right place he'll be a superstar. I still have a couple of question marks on that though.

Right now it is pretty even for me.

Your comparing Sylvia to a guy thats been consistently injured for the last 2 years, and yet to achieve his potential?

Aiming high

Sylvia has had a good month, the rest of his career has been putrid though.

This is really a potential poll, who is potentially better if they fullfill it?

Wells.

Every day of the week.

Most football followers are hoping he does it, because he such a freakishly naturally talented footballer.

Bloody hell Melbourne supports. For all we know it'll just be a flash in the pan. We're sinking to Collingwood's standards pumping up any player who has a good game (athough I'm yet to see anyone label Sylvia "elite")

Wells craps all over Sylvia overall. If Sylvia can keep this up till the end of the year then I'll agree he's overtaken Wells.

Have a look at Wells' NAB stats. He was on fire then got injured. For all we know he's ready to expload but is being held back by injuries. Next year we could have the exact same poll, but started by a Roo's supporter because Wells has reovertaken Sylvia.

I came in this thread about to say a similar thing as above (ie Wells has had a better career and a lot of Melbourne supporters wanted Sylvia traded a month back). However,

Your comparing Sylvia to a guy thats been consistently injured for the last 2 years, and yet to achieve his potential?

Aiming high

You just described Colin Sylvia.

I have never honestly rated Wells and don't think he is as good or will be as good as he is talked up to be. Also, I haven't seen him string together a few decent matches.

Sylvia however, has strung together good matches but has faced suspension and injury problems whereas Wells has faced injury alone. Sylvia has fought through and managed to get through rough patches, something I haven't seen Wells do for more than one/two games!

Still, Sylvia is harder at the ball and I would much rather him on my team than Wells from what I have seen so far.

Mind you, I see Sylvia play more than Wells.

Just wanted to add, I may be way off having seen little of Wells but that is my opinion on what I have seen.

I notice you didn't cast a vote.

Where appropriate I've often voted against a Melbourne player in a poll such as this. If you felt so strongly about the validity of the poll then you should have voted Wells.

LOL you douche. Sylvia has had worse groin troubles then Wells his WHOLE career. That's the past 5 years. :o

Hence you DOUCHE, why I didn't stoop to the level of bringing out stats from the past 5 years to try and prove a point, whilst you couldn't resist bringing out the past 8 weeks :o

All i was asking for was a better patch in Wells' ENTIRE CAREER, which someone obviously lied and said there was one. Learn to interpret the english language.

The second half of last year, when injury free?

I dont have the exact stats, but was averaging 25+ disposals and was in the top 3 in the league for goal assists, I50's in that period.

Not bad, but not quite at Sylvias level. Hence, he has never had a 'better patch' as that other guy stated. That's all im trying to say.

Well its still an absolute rubbish poll, what are you trying to prove?

Sylvia has had a better 5 game patch in their respective careers?

Great :o

On the numbers, Sylvia has had a better patch than most people playing the game atm.

Why dont you just enjoy it.

P.S - Reading the OP again, you're an absolute douche, again you think Sylvia is a better player NOW, comparing his last 4 weeks to an injured Wells, who is now your opinion a hack, even though the latter has had a far better career, every year, except the last 4 weeks!
