We had a dip last transfer period but wouldnt offer up one of our priority picks.

If Caddy still wants to get back to Melbourne at the end of the year - would we take it.

Similar types - Sylvia slightly more talented, Caddy slightly younger..

Before contemplating this, I would suggest we'd have to sweeten the deal for it to occur. Youth is everything in today's market place.

It would hold some appeal for GC, although it would depend on what sort of year Sylvia has. If he rose to top 50 level he wouldn't be going anywhere. He will only be 26 by the end of the year. If he stagnates, I'd look at it.

I might be wrong, but Col will be a limited free agent next year and if he decided he wanted to go to GC and we couldn't match what they offered him they could take him anyway??

Certainly a better offer than what Essendon were putting up last year, even with no sweetener.

I'm not sure you'd be downgrading on talent, as Caddy has shown some incredible things in just the two games he was in. But anyway, moving on!

Not sure that the Suns are looking to get any more higher profile players in the team, hence why they're not chasing Tippett. Suns Staff have said a few times that the cap will be reserved to re-sign the youngsters. Picking up guys like Aaron Hall and Kyal Horseley appear to be the way to go.

However! With that said. I certainly would not be gutted by this trade. And the money reserved to keep Cads would be given to Sylvia, I'm guessing.

The reason why Cads picked the Dons is because they were offering him a $1 million, 3 year contract. Would the Dees be willing to match/better this?

If we saw Caddy as an important part of our future plans we could definitely accommodate that financial request. No question.

I thought Caddy had an Essendon connection. (Wasn't a familiy member on their committee or something along those lines??)

I really don't want to get into the whole Caddy-Essendon drama again. Don't want to de-rail the thread. If you're keen I can PM you details, but yeah. Safe to say that's the sort of coin they were offering him.

If he plays nearly every game this year and shows everyone the talent he has, he's entirely likely to be worth more than that. But if Melbourne have the money, I'd say they would be right in the hunt.

Of course, I have no idea what the Suns plan to do about renewing him. They may be able to match it themselves, but probably won't if it means they can't afford to keep a guy like Matera around. If that makes sense.

It really all depends on Sylvia this year. If he can realise his potential consistently under a new coach then he'll be one of the best players around, so no deal.

If he can't than he's on the chopping bloke and we'd need to add something

neeld has already said that we are lacking in the middle age bracket at the club and also toughness of which sylvia provides as well as his skill and goal kicking ability
big no for me especially with the 2-3 first round draft picks coming to the club next year

This.

Caddy for our first rounder or later $cully compo pick would be an easily better option if we were looking at him.

And with such a young team they in the perfect position to jump at that.

2015 they will start to have a mature list so picking up an extra younger player will be the perfect way to extend what I expect will be 3-4 year near the top of the ladder. 2016-2020 could be anything for them with the right mix of youth brought in.

Long term view I know, but that is what Vlad want from them, long term success.

Take Col & he will play out his career in a building team or maybe have 1-2 years of success.

Im getting the very succinct impression that Neeld wont hold any punches - and I dont think it'll take much more for Sylvia to get off-side with him either.

Caddy is a very similar type of player, only probably does slightly more grunt work (which seems to be what Neeld wants in terms of strength and class at the stoppages).

If Neeld wants to make an example, and GC want to get something in return for Caddy when he leaves, it could be the best deal both sides could get.

GC might be targeting youth, but another big body wouldnt hurt - and Sylvia is still young enough to be around when GC will be playing finals.

I'm sure GC will pay top dollar for someone who can't.

Need to see more of Caddy but like what I've seen.

Hope Sylvia has a top year and we can sell him at top dollar.

Sure we need more middle age bracket but that also mean mature minds as well. Sylvia is not that.

If Sylvia has a top year I doubt we'll be selling him unless there's some serious off-field problems.

...Which, on reflection, isn't terribly unlikely.

From an outsiders point of view no way would i get rid of Caddy for Sylvia.
Sylvia is good but Caddy should be better.

I wonder why that is?

Can't be Sylvia's inconsistency, mental lapses and unfulfilled talent.

Not in Travis johnstones class but close.

Wonder how Colin would have gone in adelaide, came close to being traded there.
I still rate him and think with your new coach he will be much better, just dont let Craigy get too close to him :D

Talk on the trades board that Andrew Gaff may want out of WCE at the end of the year. Homesick it seems. If true, and Gaff has a good year, he is one I would certainly go hard at. A classy left footer who grew up idolising the Dees! Extremely unlikely to occur but it get's me excited thinking about seeing him in red and blue.

This obsession with trading Sylvia every preseason is ridiculous.

I brought it up because Mike Sheahan commented the Neeld has been underwhelmed by 2 senior players since arriving, and I would bet my house that one of those is Sylvia. That coupled with another preseason brain failure and the writing will be on the wall if a decent trade pops up.

Some would disagree with you, but the point is that Caddy wants to come back to Melbourne to be closer to his father who is unwell (i think).

He is unlikely to sign another contract with GC at the end of the year.

Would Brad Green be the other of the 2?

I think most non-melbourne supporters would rather have Cadddy than Sylvia.
If Caddy does end up leaving it would probably be to highest bidder, Sylvia wont be enough.

No Green was not one of them - but it seems that account was fake anyway.

I wouldn't be too certain about the Sylvia offer. Clubs won't be throwing first round picks about this year - and Sylvia is a far better offer than anything GC got last year.

Heard it third or fourth hand (my sister's basketball teammate is a cousin, that's how well connected I am to the AFL inner-circle!) that he doesn't hate it over there and appreciates how much work the Eagles are doing to make him comfortable, but his family is finding it really hard without him. Odds are he'll stay.

As i said over on the D&T board I sat next to his uncle at a function late last year and he said that he loves the club, but is finding it hard to settle in Perth.

He also said that he was a MFC tragic at school!

I'd love him, but not for both compo picks. Maybe 1 and our 2nd rounder or Bennell.

I can confirm that Caddy preference remains Essendon and Essendon solely. The club is still very keen but they are under no illusions that it will be more difficult this time around.

From the mail I have, Essendon will have a another serious crack at season's end. Caddy has to agree to any trade so the Suns can't just auction him to the highest bidder.

However, I acknowledge if he cements himself up north he may be more inclined to stay. Interesting to see how it plays out but don't expect Caddy to sign a deal with the Suns anytime soon.
