When Geelong called out Selwood it was fair to say I was decimated. I thought once Brisbane passed on him he was a chance and then still available at 7 I thought the dream was almost reality.
Although I will always think what could of been, as I see him as a future captain of Geelong, Reid does sound like he's the real deal. Tall enough to be a mobile ruckman @ 196 or so, to be mobile enough to be more suited to a wing he could very well to be a pick of great vision.
Thomas was clearly our best draftee last year. And he spent time in the centre square and his vision and feeds by hand or foot were awesome.I agree with much of that. I guess we have to place a bit of faith in our recruiters, but perhaps midfield is the Pies biggest problem. Pendlebury was your best pick last year by a long way , and he'll be a very good player. I won't comment on Thomas - because I'll get too many people upset. I'll just say that he's not a midfielder, unlike Pendlebury. Overlooking Ellis, Josh Kennedy and Dowler was a very very big call. What the Pies did do right, was offload a heap of duds. Still possible to unearth talent with latter draft picks.![]()
Reid – top 10% in 20m sprint at Draft Camp. Has also played on the wing.
Brown – top 3% in 20m sprint.
Since when have super quick talls been a problem??![]()
We only have two picks in the rookie draft - Martin Clarke is going to take up one of the rookie list spots.we still have 3 picks in the rookie draft and 1 in the pre-season draft
Great logic Parrot. We lack midfielders so passing on Dowler and Kennedy was the wrong decision.
Hine suggests danny nicholls is a chance for elevationJust got back from Melbourne.
Must admit they went a different path to the one I was hoping for. I was wanting mids first and talls later. But as I said all along Hine is a genius who surprises!
Ben Reid - Bold selection. Bottom age player in a super draft. Very good player though
Nathan Brown - Had him as a roughie there and delighted to get him. Quick and could play any spot along the spine.
Chris Dawes - Wow - bold again. Must have been fearful someone else was going him. Will be very good and another that could play anywhere bar FB up the spine.
Brad D()k - Superb. In my phantom I indicated he could go a lot higher and was thrilled we got him. He is special and will play mid with a year or 2 IMO.
Tyson Goldsack - Mmmm. When I saw him I didnt see a lot but the reports all read very well on him.
Last pick - Clearly they have their eyes set on a mature age rookie for ruck or Keating.
Rookie - plenty of value with Hurley, George, Batsanis, Prismall, Eddy, Kelly, Vasileski - we will got a good one.
Prediction - Cam to be rookied while Dawes comes up.
what a numbnut, what would you now just cause no one rated thomas ha number 2 draft pick.some one rated him and who are you to say hes not a top 10 are you a expert how about a couple more years then crap on.The point was, Thomas was not even ranked top-10, yet the Pies used #2 pick on him. He also is not a midfielder, and has some leg speed issues - remember what happened when Farren Ray ran off him last year? Pendlebury is a mile ahead of Thomas talent-wise. He also has courage, excellent leg speed, endurance, and is a true midfielder unlike Thomas who is and always will be an opportunist HF flanker / FP type. A good player, but not top-10 material.![]()

Reid will be a good get guys. was keen on him for the Crows.
196cm, with a 2.95(?) 20m sprint time. Give him a year in the gym and this guy will be a gem.
Brown on the otherhand is already a monster.... a damn quick monster....![]()

isn't the 'international rookie' added outside of the normal rookie list, as the AFL gives every club the chance to sign 1 international rookie and they dont have to be drafted

i'd go a ruckman in PSD, 1 ruckman and 2 midfielders in the rookie draft and for danny nicholls (midfielder) to get promoted in 2006 while dawes(pick 28) is recovering from his knee injury
Once again you continue to prove you know nothing about footy and you obsession with collingwood(for a carlton supporter) is hillarious.
I am far more confident about Thomas becoming a very good mid than any other player we drafted last year. He can win the footy one on one, he has excellent leg speed(not sure what drugs you on with the call) is tougher and has more courage(just look at the way he through is light frame through the air last year) than any other player we drafted last year. He ave around 12-15 possies playing mainly as a hff last year. Thats alot of footy for a first year player in what is often known as starvation corner. He has great first touch hands and is good in traffic. Best of all he is an outstanding decision maker. He just knows what to do and when to do it.
The only question mark is his engine, can he run out a game in the guts??
No doubt he will spend time up forward because he has that x factor that you occassionly need to go forward but I am extremly confident that in Thomas we have a gun midfielder(from about 2008) on our hands.
If you know anything about footy you should always know that rankings mean nothing come draft day and mean even less once the kids start to play. Thomas proved himself very worthy of that pick last year and most people know that except you.
