I'm really not sure how to take the Williams vs Langdon rumour. Langdon seems like another lead up and mark type small forward with poor scoreboard impact. We have enough of those types and those triers, we need pedigree.

Also Williams has shown far more in his career to date. And outside Maynard none of our back pockets can stay on the park. I think Freo is getting the better of that easily. I actually don't like the idea at all.

There are mixed reviews on Langdons kicking skills also. Some say its a feature of his game, while others say its hit and miss (sounds like his brother). Can anyone shed some light?

Well that depends on your definition of "traditional key forward" doesn't it?

Because there are literally zero forwards who play like "traditional key forwards" use to 20-30 years ago.

Gunston is a tall forward who normally stays in the forward line and kicks massive bags of goals.. sounds like a key forward to me

In case you missed it this is the whole point of the discussion. I said that we don't need any more "talls". Gunston is not a tall, he is however a player who kicks lots of goals. We could certainly do with another one of those.

You just listed 3 defenders, a medium swingman and a ruckman, and then defined a key forward as someone who kicks goals...

If you want to try and redefine what a key position forward is, more power to you, but nobody is going to buy the line that Fasolo is a KPF, just like Daicos was never a KPF.

You have missed my point. I said we don't need any more talls, and I stand by that. In fact we will probably trade some of them out. Throughout this thread there are references made to us needing another KPF, and various second rate forwards are mentioned as possibilities. Jesus Christ, you would think our supporters would have learnt a lesson by now!

What we need is a functioning forward line. We already have an exciting key position player in Moore, as well as quality mid sized forwards in Fasolo and Elliott. All we need to make this forward structure work is decent kicking into the forward half.

The two biggest issues with our team is our zone defence and our execution by foot and hand. We should stop focussing so much on contested possession and work on our skills. That may seem like a simple view point but it has taken Clarkson to the brink of his fifth flag.

Recruiting another KPF is not going to improve us one bit. We need to focus more on getting some guys who can actually deliver the ball to a teammate.

The highest goal scorer is not always the key forward.. Betts and Fasolo are not the key forwads for their teams. Gunston is simply a better version of Lynch as a third tall that pushes up the ground.

What your difference between a "traditional" and a "modern day" key forward then?
We may actually agree in principal.
I agreed with jmac's comment of that the game is moving forward without the reliance of a traditional hulking forward; if the ball movement is quick and direct that we (collingwood) do not need any more "talls" to play the traditional kpp forward, just quick marking forwards that can kick goals.
It is a trade/ draft thread.
