do u think heath shaw, dale thomas or scott pendlebury will captain collingwood in the future?

very very simple it has to be Heath Shaw, the kids a star and he is collingwood though and though.

He is every thing you want in a leader he simply plays for the JUMPER!

Heath Shaw is making a better case by the week.
If I had to select someone today it would be Ben Johnson but he can’t talk to the media.
Josh Fraser’s case is deteriorating.

My money is on Josh unfortunately.

I like Rhyce Shaw to be our next captain, is experienced, comes through hard time (03,04,05) , plays for the jumper like his little brother, can talk to the media (when they know he is around), looks deeply hurt when we lose/ his opponent beats him or he misses a match, always keeps his head over the ball and never gives up, and he is also in our leadership group meaning he is rated by other players.

I do think it'll be Clement then Fraser, but would really like a young player to be given when Buckley retires

Rhyce Shaw? Na, mate that GF has ruled out Rhyce shaw from any leadership job. Big players rise to the occassion and he didn't. You can say it was a long time ago and he has matured since then but his peers and opposition won't forget. Do you wan't him leading you the next time your side makes a grand final? I don't think so.

His younger brother however is mounting a great argument and has shown that he can handle the big stage. However will he be ready by next year or will Clement have to have it for a year or two. I would love to see them hand it straight to Heath but i think the Clement may have earnt the job for the interim.

Id like to think that moment you talk about now doesn't affect anything (he averages 20 odd disposals now) but i think your right it would be remembered by opposition supporters.
and i would like to see him in another Grand final say he would put ina blinder to make up from 03

Hopefully no-one takes this the wrong way, but does anyone think Heaths A.D.D might effect him for getting the captaincy?

I thought about it a bit since that article popped up about him and how he deals with it. Some of the things just made me think he might struggle with it a bit. Just the sitting in team meetings etc, and how he was easily distracted and unable to keep focused.

No doubting he's on field leadership skills, but it's still something that needs to be taken into consideration when thinking of him as captain material?

I don't really know much about A.D.D, so I can't really judge the effect it would have, but it would be interesting to hear what others thought

How come Didak is never mentioned btw?

I think he's improved immeasurably since the GF, i just dont think he is captain material. He still tends to make bad decisions on occasion and while this doesnt necessarily detract much from his performance as a player the last thing you want to see is your captain make a huge clanger

i think Jimmy should and will be made captain for the next two years and then hand it down it heathy. heath has only played 30 odd games and although plays like he has been around for 10 years needs to be allowed to develop at his own right without being captain of the most famous club in australia.

i think it would make a mockery of our captaincy if it were given to Johno. i am a bit of a tradionalist but the captain of Collingwood cannot have a history of trouble at night clubs. you look at all the great skippers bucks hird voss and they r all model citizens that have never been in trouble. i think johno is a great player and is irreplacable to our team howver captain i dont think so.

People forget details of 2003, but R.Shaw was pretty good throughout it. It probably saved him from being delisted. 2004 was shocking despite some ok games as a tagger.

Give it to Clement as a short-term, 2-3 year appointment and by then a number of candidates should have emerged to to put their hands up as next in line for the job. Whether it's Fraser, Shaw or Thomas who knows (could be all 3) but give them all a bit more time while Clement does an outstanding job leading the club on and off the field. :thumbsu:

Why did Rocca step down from the leadership group? He could have been the next captain, he has a presence which is immeasurable on a ruler, and he is younger than James Clement (turns 30 this year).

In the long-term, I think Scott Pendlebury is captain material. He's an option we can toss up along with Josh Fraser, Heath Shaw, Dale Thomas and Nick Maxwell. So we have a few options.

A: Players of his prestige don't necessarily make good captains.
I can't think of the word I was going to use, ah well.

As much as Clement is definitely leadership material, I think appointing a captain when he's 30 with so many young guys would be a backward step. While Josh's star may have waned a little, he thrives on responsibility and he's my pick for next captain, with Heath to be deputy vice to start with then Captain when Josh retires.

Hopefully Heater can reverse his fathers record in Grand Finals.:thumbsu:

I seriously don't think we have had enough threads on this

Jabso, please remove.

agreed or at least merge them all.

by the way, there is nothing more certain in football then Heath Shaw captaining the CFC.
