Pavlich's was the worst free kick of the year. Note the media won't go near this story because they love Pav. The umpire's completely stuffed up that free kick. Then there was Mayne's howler - "Chopping the arms" when minimal contact was made. Even Mayne was shocked to have the free kick. Finally, Crozier's free kick. Not sure what for other than he ran into Chaplin and Chaplin braced for contact. There's three goals from dubious free kicks. The Free kicks we received - Maric's first was dubious. The second, he had clearly taken the mark before a free was awarded. Lennon was basically mounted in the back so that was definitely a free. The 50 meters against Dusty highlights the bias umpiring. Umpires quick to award a 50 for another Freo goal, but the same umpires do nothing when dusty and the Freo player exchange blows in the goalsquare. Could have paid a free to either player. If it happened in the Freo goalsquare, you can be sure it would have been a Freo free kick on goal. The Silvagni 50 meters is interesting. The commentators blast the umpires for awarding the 50 meters. But clearly the commentator don't have the intelligence to realize that if you are injured - you walk away from the play, or towards your interchange bench. He was asked three times to move away, but not only did he ignore the calls, but he walked towards the player. If you injure yourself, simply drop to the ground.
What was missed - Fyfe dropped the ball twice in our forward 50 in the dying minutes. I think it was hill or Walters who clearly dropped the ball (incorrect disposal), and it was seen by two umpires.
I don't need to see the stats, as it will clearly show most of our frees in the backline, and half of Freo's goals from umpiring mistakes. The umpires did make many mistakes in this game. They are getting worse each year. I guess they were oblivious to the several chants from the supporters. I love the way the TV replays edit out the "Bulls...t bulls..t" chants. Try explaining that to the kids trying to learn about our great game.
