Hi blueboys and girls,

Just a comment regarding our playing list, in the Age liftout on the weekend I noticed that young Anthony Raso is on our playing list and not on the rookie list. That surprised me a bit because he is only 17 and this year is supposed to be a development year for him whilst he finishes VCE. I would have expected Setanta or one of the other more likely rookies to get a game this year.

Appreciate your thoughts,

Cheers, NBB

Raso was taken late in the draft as a bottom aged player because it is expected he would go a LOT higher if left until next year.

Carlton do not have an option to switch players between the rookie list and the senior list as they see fit. They are what they are. A senior listed player has to receive a long term injury before a rookie can be elevated to take his place.

I'm not even sure if Raso was eligible for the rookie list as I think you have to be 18. Is that right?

The Old Dark Navys you are correct in saying bottom age players were not eligible for the rookie draft.
IIRC you got him with your last pick, so if you didnt pick him he would have played tac u'18s again this year. what a difference one pick can make to someones life.

I hope Carlos gets a game sooner or later this year, but mind you if we are competitive and fighting it out for an top 8 spot, it might be harder for him. Paradoxically if we were in the same possie as 2002/3 it would be easier for Carlos to get a game IMO.
