With our list as it stands today we are not winning a premiership.

What is not mentioned however, is that every single one of the older players on the list has a replacement being developed in the VFL, to the point where our key position stocks are the least concerning of the lot.

Larkey, Preuss/Xerri, Durdin, McKay would be close to starting on many AFL lists.

Add Taryn, Ahern, free agent cash and I find it hard to believe the claim that 2018 NM is no closer to winning than 2017 NM.

Buckland if you are reading this perhaps a deeper look into our list structure is needed before writing off our long term strategy.

To begin by saying the article isn't meant to be inflammatory with that headline is just idiocy.

If however the article was posed as a question and he then took the 5 minutes to do some research it may have been ok.

He would have been able to discuss and understand the full list strategy that illustrates the next gen Waite, Goldy and Tartant etc with a raft of top top 20 draft picks on top of that now playing in our own VFL team under the same strategy.

He could have discussed salary cap space and upcoming draft opportunities as well as highlighting the great successs that Carlton and others have had 'bottoming out' - fantastic strategies! All those amazing 'rising stars!!' - now over valued hacks.

We can't expect him to understand being a Shinboner! where bottoming out and tanking aren't valued!

Yes there are risks to our strategy, yes good players retire, yes we have a healthy lost so we haven't used many players!

At the end of it all, he basically says that North won't succeed unless they manage to do that thing that they've been threatening to do and will almost certainly do this year and next year, which is bring in two or three more top tier players. Look, I don't think we're winning a flag but this is the Bulldogs 2016 Round 9 side. They were 6-3, having beaten Fremantle, St Kilda, Carlton, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne - only one of those played finals. At that point, conventional wisdom would say that was not a premiership list.

i was always under the impression that a premiership list meant the team works together very cohesively, you got 1-2 stars, the coach is doing good work and everyone's healthy.

As long as everyone does their part, it's a premiership contender.
