Commentators who make my ears bleed

I'd love one of the broadcasters to take an EPL approach to the commentary team;
One commentator
One ex-player on special comments
One person on the boundary for interviews
And as many pundits as you like during the breaks, but not a journo in sight.

It would be interesting to see everyone's dream line up

After half time i turned down the volume and watched the game in silence...
My two youngsters were watching the game on Kayo upstairs and screaming at the TV. I can only imagine what the commentary was like with Chief at the helm...
We don't have A class commentators especially if we think BT is a better alternative...

I’m with you on this one. I used to shitcan ch7 and would choose Fox every day of the week. Channel 7 is much better this year (if you can block out BT trying to be funny, Brayshaw saying every contest is ‘broken up’, or Hame just being a knob in general). Cornesy is the best in the business.

Didn’t like Cornes when he first arrived on the media scene but he’s good in commentary.

Channel 7 also has Hodge who I like. Good insights and not afraid to tell it like it is.

I turn down the tv sound and listen to 3aw. I can’t believe that I like a Cat and Bomber, but Bartel and Loyd are calm and insightful. They actually describe what’s happening in the game without the histrionics.

Agree, Bartel is great.

This is what's sorely lacking in the game. A professional call, without bias, that allows the game to tell the story rather than the commentators projecting narratives.

watching highlight's of last week's game on Fox vs CH7 was night and day, 7 was boring AF but the Fox crew were getting super excited in the first quarter and it shone through wonderfully well in the commentary (even King). It changed a little of course throughout the call, but that team worked well - enthusiastic without sounding biased.

Dunstall won’t correct himself when he was wrong. For example the Ginni arm chop free kick.

Haha yeah this was the last straw for me, clear chop but according to bunghole nothing to see here.

My main issue is that they call the game like we can’t see what is actually happening, if I needed a play by play call I would put the radio on. I don’t need them to tell me that the ball has been kicked from player A to player B I can actually see that player A has kicked it to player B.

Love NBA commentary as they dont over do the play by play call as they know viewers have working eye balls.

Circumstances had me watching on 7 for a half and then swirched to Fox. It was noticeable how much worse Fox was. Personalities aside, the Fox team just did not stop for a breath. It was relentless

He's been commentating for 10+ years, and never really heard anything negative about him till recently, so for the uninitiated, what's an example on why people don't like him?

Does anyone else remember Don Scott from the old Army Reserve games on a Sunday? Some poor young kid would get ironed out and spreadeagled on the ground with broken ribs, ruptured spleen, blood everywhere and Don would be like “get up and keeping playing kid, it’s a man’s game!”

Hawthorn playing the Crows the other night. Just about every free kick Hawthorn received was questioned by Dunstall. To the point that Lyon had to almost explain the rules to Dunstall.

He criticised Hawthorn's gameplan repeatedly, even when it ended up with clear shots on goal to the forwards. He never thinks what actually is done is acceptable. There is always a better, but hypothetical, way of achieving the same result with him.

He sucked the joy out of the game for Hawthorn supporters, then compounded it by endlessly extolling Thilthorpe, who is a fine but not great player, in particular and the Crows in general.

It was tiresome.

It’s the groupthink mentality even Matt Hill who started well is now terrible talking normally and then going from 0-100 in a totally manufactured way. Interested to hear about Bartel and Lloyd I will make a plan to listen to them. We miss Dennis an understated intelligent commentator rather than the histrionics of the callers today.

Years ago someone told me (in a corporate context) that if there’s people who piss you off the way they speak, just imagine them reciting the nursery rhyme / folk song “One, Two, buckle my shoe”. It suddenly makes them seem ridiculous and easier to cope with their dribble.

Works especially well with the pompous types who believe that intellectually they are the next incarnation of Einstein (eg Whateley. I mean imagine his sonorous nasal tones saying “five six pick up sticks” with gravitas as though it’s the clauses of the Geneva Convention that he’s reading out…)
