I know this is not Carlton specific but just wanted to give Matthew Lloyd a slap and a tickle.
Hated him as a player, but as a commentator have really been impressed with what he brings to the table on SEN.
Really forthright with his views, honest and insightful.
Liking his understated sense of humour too.
Never thought I would say this, but I like him...

Stands out from the generic mish mash.

Anyone else out there that appeals to others?

I agree. Hated him in red and black but with a mic in his hand he is actually quite good.

It's funny that the commentators I like are Lloyd and when Buckley did it... and my most hated is Walls

Could not have hated a player more if I tried. As a commentator he has really impressed me.

The fact that he doesn't talk "around" comments on his old club is what really makes me almost value his opinion. Players who cannot give an honest opinion on their old clubs shouldn't be in the media. Most notable one is Eyebrows Lyon...

Thing is, he was canned during his career for being so dull during interviews. Certainly not the case with him on radio and he always seems to call it as he sees it.

Between 1996 & 2001 (1996 being Lloyd's first season & 2001 being SOS' last season), Lloyd kicked 34 goals against Carlton in 11 games (his 3.1 goals per game average against Carlton during that period is less than his career average of 3.43 goals per game). From memory we didn't always play SOS on Lloyd as Hird was a more damaging player.

Lloyd's best effort against Carlton between 1996 & 2001 was 6 goals. To put that into perspective, SOS also managed a 6 goal game against Essendon during that period, that was in our 78 point thrashing of Essendon during the 1997 season (Lloyd played that day & managed only 2 goals, despite the FB of the century playing at the other end of the ground).

Lloyd's hatred for Carlton would have ensured he didn't rate SOS fairly. Doesn't matter, we all know SOS is one of the all time greats of the game, who was so versatile he could move forward & kick bags of goals, with a personal best of 10 goals during his career.

Your right M, the highlights package that was shown had SOS against Hird in the majority.
