Congrats Tendulkar 200* in a ODI

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Better average, better strike rate, high quality bowling, unroped grounds, dicy pitches, made big runs, old fashioned bats, no padding against minnows like kenya, netherlands etc

This in an era when 200 won you matches.

Viv is the best batsman of my lifetime - his record, the fear he struck in bowlers, his strike rate in ODI and Test Cricket.

For consistency purposes - if you believe tendulkar is better than ponting due to better bowlers - Viv has to be ahead - not difficult to split at all.

Makes me wish I'd seen him in full flight.

he's the only bloke i know of that has hit the ball out of the waca - albeit without the lillle marsh stand there - but he he it over the perimeter fence into the cop shop behind the ground.

waugh, symonds, gayle all have hit monsters - but you have to only look at the mishits that go for six nowadays - to know bats are a mile better.

actually from memory - kim hughes may have done it as well

i am blessed that i grew up watching the master blaster as a kid (along with the rest of the powerhouse windies side of that era)

Good to see you haven't let it go with the last sentence :D

Certainly Viv was just about the only one who can even claim to be better than Tendulkar for the past few decades. Although Tendulkar has longevity and consistency on his side to Viv's sheer brutality. To say it isn't difficult to split would be a naive statement.

Some people also seem to forget that Tendulkar played half his career when there were no ropes

Plus I don't believe you are one to talk about consistency, pretty much pot kettle black :D

I don't wanna start anything again, but I opted to respond since you started it.

Great effort but tempered by the small ground, super flat wicket, relatively ordinary SA attack. Steyn is not a good one day bowler. Langeveldt is a spent force if he ever was one, Parnell is raw and VDM is awful.

I would still say it is absolutely astonishing. The fact is that no one has scored a 200 even against minnow nations with the same conditions you talk about. A 200 in ODI cricket and batting right through is right up there with the highest achievements.

I mentioned in the other thread before Tendulkar had 200 and this thread was started - that i thought Richards was the best. It isn't just a convenient addition or petulant response to downgrade Tendulkar - it was even before you entered that thread.

He may have played his career with ropes - in fact let's argue he played his entire career with ropes - the fact remains that in a time where 200 was a winning score - Richards had a higher average and higher strike rate

Don't just pick one thing Tendulkar can match - answer the following questions

* Who had dicy pitches where 200 won and not the common 300 and 350+ scores we see now that pad out averages?
* Who didn't get to play against minnows
* Who scored tons in world cup finals?
* Who had old fashioned bats?
* I'd argue the bowling was better in the 70's as well - but that is subjective

And now think about
* Who has a higher average
* Who has a higher strike rate

It's straight forward - has nothing to do with bias - it's just clear cut - longevity is the only thing Tendulkar has over him.

Richards is the greatest batsman of my lifetime - Tendulkar overall would be number 2. Chappell, Ponting and Lara to raffle 3rd. Not only does he have my subjective view of watching them all - but he also has objective analysis in stats backing him up.

If you do reply - i'm happy to see evidence to the contrary - not "oh he played in a better team, or Tendulkar carried a billion hopes" - just evidence of runs or performance that perhaps i have overlooked.

For pure joy Gower was my favourite to watch - the most elegant batsman of my lifetime.

its weird how people keep bringing that up, i doubt it never enters Tendulkars mind when he walks out to bat and its the pressure of the game that would be consuming him and not what a billion people watching the game on tv are thinking. Every batsman has pressure of fans and Aussie cricketers play to some of the biggest crowds in world cricket.

That's what an elite sportsman does, if you take notice of any of the stuff that doesn't involve actually playing the game then you're not going to get to the levels he or any of the top batsmen/bowlers have.

exactly so people should stop using it aswhy it puts him above other batsman.

I do reply, and it wouldn't be to the whole Viv vs Tendulkar, because I actually REFUSED to make any comparison, yet you are the one who (yet again) tries to drag the thread to nowhere. It just demonstrates what an anal retentive fool you are that you always have to go down that path. I refuse to turn this into another 5 page thread, but I am replying just to show your stupidity. You should just let the whole Ponting thing go and don't beating a dead horse

Anal retentive? stupidity?

Or perhaps just irrefutably right?

I didn't drag this thread from anywhere - the comparison to Richards was made by someone else, you replied to it - as did i. in fact my first response in this thread was talking about how good his innings was, considering the opposition as well.

You didn't REFUSE at all to compare them as much as you want to believe it - you in fact said you couldn't split them - unless i am mistaken - that's comparing them - unless you learnt a different form of English from me.

I take it the fact there is no objective analysis coming back that you are stumped (pun intended) and hence commence with personal remarks - again i might add.

Rod Marsh broke a window in the police headquarters, before the Lillee Marsh stand was built. Back when You could sit under a tree and watch the game.

Viv was amazing. So is Sachin. I am going to sit on the fence.

You are obsessed, aren't you? You must be very obsessed

I made that statement to avoid clowns like you to bring it on another 5 pages of meaingless dribble. By saying I can't split them is refusing to make a commitment that would inevitably make some clowns like you start going off your bonkers about it (In fact, you go off your bonkers anyway when I haven't done so). Have you never stopped to realise that I don't care whether Viv or Tendulkar are better, or in fact that I might actually think that Viv IS better?

But all that doesn't matter, because an obsessive clown like you would just try to start a fight in an empty room anyway, as you're doing now. They aren't personal insults if they are true, and quite frankly, they are.

You need to see a shrink or something, clearly you have problems that makes you refuse to let go of an internet discussion that clearly bugged you to hell (IE Ponting and Tendulkar) and now you are totally obsessed about getting revenge. Now you are just doing what wind up merchants and trolls do, which makes a debate with you absolutely meaningless in the first place.

i'm extremely obsessed - i can't sleep at night without the stats going through my head. i'm seeking treatment for it though. i think the obsession is what cause my anal retentiveness - i just don't like letting go - of anything

ponting's better though - we agreed on that one didn't we? `
