Would interesting to know if he replaces an outgoing board member or they created a new seat on the board to suite his skill set (coaching a football team).
He replaces someone who was one of the senior tech guys at the NBN, and who has significant M & A experience in the telecommunications space.

Not exactly like for like.

Shouldn't this thread be merged into the Geelong rorting the system mega thread?
Yep, and that thread merged into the 'Have Geelong become too powerful' thread. 😍

Mods!

Mate how much work do you think he has to actually do? Hed probably do a couple of motivational things, give some insights into his professional life, he does have a business background through his degree so can give at least a bit of input into boards or whatever, and not have to do a hell of a lot more.

Do you think Bailey Smith goes to a Cotton On factory and sits at a sewing machine to get his money from them?

How much do you think he gets paid to do This stuff if it doesn’t take that much time?

A bit on the nose,, Scott should be more traditional and get paid in masseussy like Dimma.

Or like Fly, with smiles and hugs and an u related employment contract for the missus.
It's suppose to be the long game and you get looked after once you retire with jobs for the boys. Not extra jobs for the boys working.

Unless you're taking a job that is in direct competition, an employer gets no say if you want to take up a second/third/fourth job.

It's none of their business.
But they are allowed to know if you take up another role. If you don't tell them and they find out, it can be grounds for dismissal. Eg. If Chris Scott starts working as a assistant coach for the Hawks on the side, I recon Geelong would then have a problem.

Nobody is saying he can't legally do it.

And that's not what you were objecting to anyway, which is the AFL's ability to view contracts with external parties to ensure that the pay is commensurate with the work being undertaken, as this is seen as a way of violating the salary cap and/or football department spending cap.

The AFL already have that ability, it's explicit in the CBA for players, and the AFL's Rules allow for the general counsel and AFL investigators to view contracts with associates (such as sponsors) for the purposes of ensuring the football department cap isn't being breached, too.

Geelong fans seem to have taken the view that it's all sweet, for fairly obvious reasons. The rest of us hate it because not because we hate Geelong, or are jealous or whatever else helps you sleep at night - everyone thinks the Judd /Visy thing and the Dustin Martin "thanks Puma" thing, among others, were dodgy as hell, too.

We're shitty with the AFL because they have rules and then don't enforce them.

Yes that's in direct competition, there'd obviously be clauses around that.

They can't stop you from taking another job that's in a different industry.

Anyway do people actually think this wasn't signed off by the AFL?

Blame them not Chris Scott.

Non executive directors do bugger all, just leech money. They contribute nothing to a company.

How about you explain exactly why it’s “fishy”. The soft cap for coaches is separate to the player cap. So, how does Scott taking on this job impact you? If anything Cats supporters should be wondering if he might lose focus of his primary job as coach, but that shouldn’t be a concern of yours?

It’s not like Scott has done it on the quiet.
Cause you are paying a coach outside the soft cap, it’s allows more money to go towards other coaches. Quite simple really.

And if they are doing this with coaches, god knows what they are doing with players.

But, it doesn’t impact me at all. Does that disqualify my opinion on it? Sorta a silly angle to take which screams to me that you know it stinks also.
