I wish we still played like that. So exciting.
Nearly everytime our mids got the ball at stoppages, it either went forward by foot or by hand to a player in space or bursting through a pack.

Now we often multiple handball backwards.
A recent chart showing contested ball over the last few years showed that this has not dropped, but our clearances have gone south dramatically.

Jobe polled 8 and the 15 votes before his 30 then the following years 15 and 8. That in your definition is a one season wonder and he achieved that season by cheating.

Cotch had a break out year in 2012, won the coaches award for best player and a Brownlow. Its not chimps fault jackson and tuck left and were not replaced adequately so cotchin had to change his game and play inside. Hence his last two years from a personal stand point has not been equal to 2012 but they have been very,very good.

Simple minded people ignore his personal form and translate the club poor form onto him.

Chimp deserved the brownlow and i am stoked he finally got it.

I'm fully expecting that we see him get much closer to 2012 Cotchin next year with Prestia and Caddy in the side, finally replacing Tuck and Jackson.

Tuck and Jackson were in the side in 2013 as well, and we made finals. Admittedly since 2012 he has changed his game style. I really do think the captaincy has hindered him a little. Seems like he tries to be hard to be the leader instead of playing his natural game

I personally think the changes to midfield and forward coaches after 2012 had a massive as negative affect on cotch and the side .
Focus was shifted to spread and slow deep only forward entries = shit low scoring sidewards ball movement.
Lade and Wilbur ****ing off will make massive changes to the club and Cotchin.

He didn't poll highest, Watson did. Poor bloke got screwed by his own club. Brownlow really should've gone to no-one, or all votes with Essendon games removed because they were tainted (I think that would've made Scott Thompson the medalist).

Re bolded bit: the club only performed badly this year...even when we've been performing well, Cotchin took steps backwards after 2012 and hasn't made up the ground over the four seasons. Would love to be proved wrong but I think he's overrated.

He did have a cracker of a year in 2012, and I do understand that it's an award based on one season's performance (my guess is that a lot of the people who would defend Cotchin being a one-season wonder on that line of argument would have had a crack at opposition supporters for players like Priddis, Cooney, Woewodin #rosecolouredglasses), but I don't think he deserved it. Watson won it, and if not, the whole season was tainted and there should've been no winner.

Another hypocritical part - Jackson and Tuck were two of the most maligned players on this board, yet you refer to them as the reason for Cotchin's poor performance in later seasons? I understand that is your personal viewpoint and not the horde's, but it's still a pretty long bow to draw...

He's been a 6/10 in terms of living up to his talent - prove me wrong Cotch
