What expectations do you have of Cooney? You call him a very good player, I assume you base that on his performances, yet say he doesn't measure up yet to expectation. Sounds like you think he should play at a higher level than that of a VERY GOOD PLAYER. Everybody has a too high expectation of Cooney.

Including you. McLean would fit nicely into our mid field. Scott West could do with the help!

Number one picks should really turn out to be great players, not just good players. :)

How long do you give them before they have to turn out great?

2, 3, 4, 8 years?

He will be great!

I expected it to be close, and I'm just glad Mclean is getting the respect he deserves, as he is a seriously good young player. That said, so is Cooney. They are both easily the stand outs from the 2003 Draft so far. Good luck to both of them.

31 possies, 8 marks, 8 tackles and a goal to Mclean today. Mclean gets my votes.

After this weekends performance, and the whole year thus far, Mclean goes slightly further ahead. He consistently beat Luke Ball one on one today. I know Ball is playing injured, but its still a great effort to knock off one of the games best midfielders, and rack up 31 disposals, 8 tackles, 8 marks (a few of which were contested before anyone chimes in) and a goal. Wouldve been BOG yet again if it werent for Neitz's 8 goal haul.

If Mclean keeps this kind of form up he could be an outside chance for the Brownlow. We know he polls well, as he polled 9 votes last year when he had played less than 30 games! And he has matured and developed alot since then, consistenly winning clearances and averaging about 26 disposals a game so far this year.

Couldnt be happier with Mclean.

Ball's injury is no excuse, McLean has a very similar injury at the moment.

McLean was simply a lot better than Ball on the day.

McLean gets mine..... For the time being.

As many have mentioned, Brock is a hard in and under player. Gets stacks of clearences and gets it out to players in the mould of Cooney. And as someone else said Cooney has more natural ability. I dont nessessarily agree. If you take notice of Brock, he is an exceptional kick and has good hands. I am yet to decide on how good a mark he is. Cooney on the other hand is a better athlete and has good skills all round. So to me the only difference is Cooney's athletic ability. And that is what may make him a better player. But personally if I had to choose one, Id take McLean in a heartbeat.
