is it just me or the way the crows are 'going to sleep' after a hefty margin dring a game is a consern????????

we have done it for a while and instead of finishing 3rd (and a posibility of playing at home) we could finish 4th (and possibly playing at the gabba ! )

I would be more concerned about your spelling. ;)

Seriously though, hard to dominate a game for 4 quarters. I much happier that we set up a game early & "slacken off", than try & chase down a side (like with the Pies & Weagles).

I'm more concerned about where we would be best finishing - 3rd or 4th.

eg. Assume the top-4 finish the way they are (which could well happen) & these teams make the prelimary final. 1st week: Lions v Crows (G); Port v Pies (FP). If the Crows (& Power) win, Power would be happy as they get a home preliminary final v Lions, but we would be rewarded with a "home" prelim final @ MCG v Pies. Would we be better off losing to the Lions, win the next week (at home), as we would be a better chance of making the GF by playing Port @ MCG? I reckon we have a better chance of beating Port at the MCG, than Port at FP or Pies at the MCG.

If we finish 3rd, 1st week Lions v Pies (G), Port v Crows (H). If we win, we are rewarded with a "home" prelim final @ MCG v Pies. If we lose (then win the next week), we play Brisbane @ Gabba. ie. No real advantage.

A better senario than that above would be if Port finish top & we finish 4th. Brisbane would then have to play a home prelim at the MCG rather than the Gabba.

Crows can't win the right to a home final at Football Park. The only way we can play a preliminary final at FP is if Port finishes top & we play them "away" in the preliminary final.

Time for me to have a drink...

Have one on me Kane :)
Noddy, I agree that we have the ability to win anywhere. But our best chance of playing the prelim final at football park is if Port finish top & win week 1, we lose the 1st week to Lions & win at home the next. If we upset either Brisbane or Port week 1, we will be rewarded with a "home" final at the MCG (unless both 1st & 2nd lose). Crazy suff.

I'll give it a bit more though over a '97 Redmans Cab Sav. :)

Theres fadeouts and there is BLACKOUTS.
The Crows always had that game at the weekend.

The Geelomg game was pleasing in that they were a bit like the boy with the barrow they knew what lay ahead with the Heatley Stand being the scoring end....they rallied

Its all a learning process.

Getting our heart cut out by the Power in Rnd whatever it was this year will linger strong NEXT WHEN A 4 quarter effort is required; like next weekend.

In between I think you can expect a different Essendon side this week and if the Crows "go to sleep" it will turn into a tough, uncompromising, dogfight until the bitter end.

As you note Kane the only way Crows get a prelim final at Footy Park is to play Port.

As it turns out, strangely enough, our recent record against Brisbane, even at the Gabba, is better than our record against Port at Footy Park.

I think it is a mistake to try to "manufacture" the opponents we will face in the finals. I think Crows should go out to win all four remaining matches, and take winning form into the finals series. Whoever that means we end up playing and where has got to be secondary to that, IMO.

I think we've all got a bit gready. To beat the Cats and Swans away are very good wins. The Crows have never been a side to destroy the opposition since day 1 and to have those wins without ever moving out of third gear is better than ok.

Difficult finals scenario to think about. When you think about it, there's not much practical difference between finishing anywhere from 3rd to 6th. I'd probably rather play Brisbane at the Gabba than Port at Footy Park but really, to play someone like Geelong at Footy Park and concede the double chance may not be any worse.

I agree, we need to go out with the attitude of winning all games (eg. going into the finals with poor form like Freo last year is not good). Winning form is good form. Just thought though it would be worth running through the finals scenario, as the top-4 sides look like they will remain the same (just the order is yet to be determined).

Spogs, I would love to play Port in a preliminary final, as I reckon we can erase all the crap we have been getting about them winning the last 4 & leading the showdown count, by knocking them out of the finals. I'm confident we can lift in finals (particularly when half our team smell the recently cut grass in September to bring back all those memories of '97 & '98) - something which Port have not done yet when it matters. My preference would be to play them at the MCG than Football Park, as IMO our chances would be better. Bring it on... :D

Essendon are useless now. They are slow in the midfield, and have lost that intimidation factor which won them a flag in 2000.

We should carve them up, even in 3 quarters.

Spogs, I like your thinking. Crows haven't been the kind of team that destroys teams on the scoreboard.

But can you imagine a one point victory over the PAPs on Grand Final day? I think that would be more destructive than winning by 10 goals.

Oh well, dream on!

I too like your thinking Spogs; although I must add the riderwhen we're underdogs that is
