Good Morning Class

Welcome to the new semester. Now the Eagles & their fans have been whinging about the ‘Us vs Them’ (Us being the Vic Media Class of ’07) agenda of certain class members. So for this week’s project, I will be setting some assignments to show this is completely untrue.

Jonathan Hay said in his interview that he took illicit drugs for 3 years at Hawthorn. Caroline Wilson if you could follow up on this and find out who with and were there any senior players involved, maybe even alluding to a former club great would spice things up a bit.

Young Robbie Walls, yours is easy. Angwin and Norman said they were out with five senior players at Carlton. With your club connections, a quick phone call would give you all the information you need.

Dale Lewis said five years ago that 75% of AFL players had experimented with illicit drugs. Now you could only come up with this sort of dramatic figure from personal experience. Seeing as he played for the Sydney Swans, I’ll give this one to you Richard Hinds. And just to make sure you complete it, Roy Masters and Jaqueline Manguey - how about you give it a try?

Now the ABC can do this as a group. Why would a Victorian drug dealer under investigation by the Victorian police, only have three W.A. sportsmen as clients? I’m sure he had a rather extensive Victorian client base. How else would Kerr and Harvey have been introduced? Barry Cassidy, Gerard Whately grab the Four Corners crew and off you go.

And Hutchie, for your assignment in Gossip columning, why not follow up on the former footballer / media identity with the ‘Love Boat’ and all his friends. If he’s at Channel Seven or Ten, then great news for Channel Nine! If he’s at Nine where you are doing your internship, then info should come easy. Maybe you can check in with the ABC Group to cross reference.

We all know that the Ben Cousins essay handed in by Andrew Rule received top marks last term, but I would have thought with a little embellishment by further exploring the above articles, it could have involved more clubs and been a game breaker. So let’s try and do these articles and separate them, if possible, from the West Coast Eagles. The Ben Cousins stuff is now bordering on plagiarism in a most cannibalistic way. And don’t bother handing in the ‘AFL to Deregister Kerr’ stuff. As if they are going to deregister someone that can sell his story and probably name 100 other players that are doing it. I’m sure you are all lining up for that one. But knowing this class you will probably miss that story as well!

You will notice I haven’t given anything to you, Mr W.A. media. This is because of a failure to do your homework last time. If you can’t break a story that is right in front of your face and young Andy Rule runs with it, then I doubt you are going to be very helpful with any of the given assignments.

I would like these assignments on my desk by the end of the week.

Class dismissed!

Posted this in April of this year. Also sent it to the BACK PAGE and Offsiders. (No reponse….as expected). A novel, I know, but too much has come together at once and I talk a lot:D..I actually don’t think it is a Vic v W.A. thing. I think the Media are shit scared of the Victorian powerbrokers or maybe just too close??;) Yes there have been stories about other clubs, but this about the drug stories and, unbelievably, West Coast is the only club in that story!!!

Now the un-named Melbourne Club could be one of these clubs, but I wrote this way before the injunction. The injunction is on the release of medical records, but shouldn’t stop any other form of investigative journalism. Some of these un-named players have been caught twice and seeing as the Media thinks the drug testing is so lax you’d have to be very lucky to catch someone, then these 2 Strike players must be on it a fare bit. Andrew Rule’s article was all innuendo and suspicion from ‘sources’, how come West Coast is the only club that has ‘friends’ with loose lips? Really I would say that the Journo’s would only have to visit a nightclub at 2 in the morning to be an eyewitness to it themselves. Hutchy can pack his bag in a moment to follow Cousins to the U.S.A, but can’t pull his slimey arse out of bed to get a photo of 20 Victorian players on the gear in King St??

The Big Two. Now I know Kerr etc. are ********s for being on the Tapes, but the big question is (and relevant to the top story in the Vic papers today) why were there only 3 W.A. guys on the tape, or were they the only ones named? The ABC said that they underhandedly received 100 of hours of police tapes of a Victorian drug dealer. Why did a VICTORIAN DRUG DEALER that is MAJOR enough to phone tap, only have 3 W.A. sportsmen as clients. This is very hard to believe. Were his VICTORIAN clients all nobodies? Why would you tap him then? Were the W.A guys just going to the wrong MAJOR drug dealer? Or do the Victorian players use another MAJOR dealer that isn’t tapped. Just unlucky I guess?? Or were those 3 names highlighted by the ‘leak’ and the ABC didn’t bother listening to the tapes? Maybe they were only given the tapes of those 3 peoples conversations.

Jon Anderson and Paul Salmon both admitted on the Back Page this week that they would NOT say anthing about Pratt because he is too wealthy and powerful. They also made the comment to Richard Freedman that he was okay because he doesn’t live in Melbourne. This is disgusting!!! Meanwhile, the Media Empires are pushing for better freedom of the press! Not gonna mean jack sh*t if you are too scared to write anything. I think this probably goes for quite a few high powered Presidents of Melbourne clubs. The Kangaroos and Eagles need to get themselves a more wealthy and powerful President. Seems then your club is ‘untouchable’.

3 out of 5 have sort of made it to the papers unwillingly.

Conspiracy…doubtful, but hitting the one target… Convenient!
nicely put :thumbsu:

Would just like to add my support to this post.

Excellent work! :thumbsu:

Of course it is a spin job, nothing to do with the fact that they have publicly and repeatedly made tools of themselves, assaulted members of the public, driven erratically and generally drawn the crabs like a Thai whore in the trenches. Of course there is a conspiracy. :D :D
Didak Tarrant B Johnson board:rolleyes:

Pratt should be in jail. What he has done compared to Cousins is a joke and yet Cousins name is the one being dragged through the mud. Shame on the federal Government for looking after the filthy rich. 15 years in the cooler with bubba is what Pratt deserves for ripping you and me and every person in Australia off. Cousins has done nothing to me!

Agree. When its new ground, there has to be a first for everything.. if in the next 10 years clubs show similar public problems as the Eagles and nothing is done. Then it would be a conspiracy.

All AFL clubs must be told who has tested positive for illegal substances and all names of the players be named in the media .Then the cops could come in and charge them or caution them and the clubs must be investigated .The AFL drug policy is anti players health .The players association is anti the players re illegal drugs as the illegal drugs are dangerous for the players health and well being .They Kill and or maim you ,its as simple as that .

err, yes.
Seriously? If you can begin to name a club with more indescretions and actually name the problems then we can begin to compare.
I'll give it a quick whirl.

Crows:
Ramsgate - player gets into a tiff with another teams player.
Johncock runs from an accident, possibly while drunk.
Simon Goodwin gambles
Simon Goodwin tells a photographer that he's going to kill him
Scott Welsh hits a woman with his jumper
Ben Hudson stays out an hour after Curfew, Pfeiffer and Vince 20 min.
Thompson crashes while doing doughnuts, being charged with dangerous driving.
I'm sure there's more but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Eagles
Cousins and Gardiner refuse to co-operate with police WRT criminal gang shootings.
Cousins runs from a booze bus.
Gardiner totals his car while drunk.
Kerr recorded on police tapes discussing selling/buying/using (can't remember) Ketamine.
Edwards revealed to be discussing drugs on another police tape.
Kerr attacks a taxi.
Kerr forges a prescription.
Kerr charged with assault.
Chad Fletcher's close call with death, promises to release med records, never does.
Cousins ends up in rehab.
Cousins refuses blood test.
Any I've missed?
