If the Tigers really wanted to exploit FA, they can take JJ from us as a free agent on whatever coin they are prepared to pay for a draft pick, we then trade the FA compo pick for Baker. Net result we get Baker for free and Tigers get a pick as fat as their wallets and Baker replacement, albeit a significant downgrade. They’d only need to pay enough for band 3 to almost certainly get pick in the very low 20s.
St Kilda & Essendon tried that last year with the Gresham compo pick, can’t remember the other player supposed to be involved, but the AFL kyboshed it.

My understanding was it was Dildoro trying to pull a fast one on the Saints and that the AFL just wouldn’t tick off anything that wasn’t “trade value” if we think back to the Veale deal. Don’t think anyone could argue that Liam Baker isn’t worth a pick in the early 20s. If they went after band 1 and the pick was after our natural 1st I can understand why they’d throw the toys out of the cot.

But the GC - Geelong Bowes and Pick 7 for **** all gets approved.
WWEAFL at it again

You know Gold Coast had to agree to my trade that happened right? They wanted to salary dump Bowes.
That wasn't my point....my point is that the VFL allows certain lopsided trades to go through but not others depending on whatever outcome the VFL wants to engineer

Exactly. If Baker was a FA and played for North or GCS the AFL would turn him into a 27yo dual premiership multipositional superstar coming into the prime of his career and allow the band 1 compo pick. If he played for us all of a sudden he’s an undersized, unwanted hole filler who can’t nail down a regular position and we’re given band 73 compo.

That’s on the League and the teams in it to do something about it…

Not understanding how it was such an issue that Gold Coast, Geelong and the AFL agreed to it (all the parties involved)

Why does it concern teams not involved? How does this affect them if all parties involved agree it’s fair?
Sounds like people have biased viewpoints. I’m sure you could write a formal complaint as a club if you think it’s unfair?

Perhaps if you removed your head out of your arse you might realise that teams who aren't kissed on the dick by the VFL would probably be concerned with them engineering outcomes that favour the teams who are

St Kilda & Essendon tried that last year with the Gresham compo pick, can’t remember the other player supposed to be involved, but the AFL kyboshed it.

Dodoro ****ed it up by getting the players offside. McKay almost didn't end up at Essendon until calls were made and Vozzo added 500k extra into the first year of McKay's contract which also then triggered the compo pick going from band 2 to band 1.

Gresham also almost walked away.

It required Saints, Essendon and North to all come to an agreement but In essence it all got ****ed around by Dodoro being too self absorbed and wanting extra when the basics had already been agreed to.

The aim was to upgrade from pick 8 to pick 2 whilst getting Gresham, McKay and Xavier Duursma and then drafting Zane. It involved Essendons first last year plus first this year and the compo picks. Lets just say 'someone' had basically everything in place and had worked on it for 3 months before it all turned to shit.

Dodoro then also went off script on draft night purely out of spite to myself, craig vozzo, scott and also drafted a player purely because he was known of interest to west coast after the WCE traded up to scoop Clay Hall. Even though I highly rated the player drafted he was drafted by Essendon purely because of WCE trading up for Hall and wasn't the next player on Essendon's draft board for their final ND pick. (Even having to trade back into the draft to piss off West Coast) Dodoro basically went on a full ego trip during the draft.

It was supposed to be a very simple draft after the trade **** arounds. Bid on Croft (and happily select him if WB didn't match), select O'Sullivan if the bid was matched, Hall and Lual then see what was around come rookie draft time for a ruck and a defensive small forward and if not available to redraft Snelling if no-one rated was available.

The club is a ****ing shit show In the background and hopefully with the departure of Dodoro and the incoming people Craig has secured his position and Essendon starts moving into the 21st century and stops the influence of the powerbrokers in the background for making decisions which effect the football department. I used to love Brad Scott week when he was at North but after getting to meet him and discuss what he wanted for the future and seeing his interactions with all staff I now highly respect him.

For Archie Roberts?

What changed here with the pivot to Caddy on draft night if there was a set play? Unbelievable to select Roberts out of spite rather than what is best for the club he’s employed by.

For Archie Roberts?

Bingo.

All doors lead to Dodoro and I can unpick just about anyone's thoughts but he is either a genius, a ****** or a combination of both. I'm not sure if they have created a word above narcissism to best describe the man.

Remember a draft plan is a list of players and roles for the future. It is the combined efforts of the Football manager, List & or Recruitment manager, the head coach, the rest of the recruiting team and in my case an outside consultant to put it all together when combined with trades.

Like I said, if you pulled your head out of your arse you would realise that this is not a fair and equitable league and that the AFL 100% engineers whatever outcome that suits their agenda at the time.
Now go back to your own board

So if Dodoro had stayed on script, Hall would’ve been taken with Essendon’s 2nd pick which they traded to Geelong to move up one spot to get Caddy

And/or we’d have taken Archie Roberts with our final pick which we ultimately passed with. Means that one of Rawlinson or Trew wouldn’t be on our list now

WCE were interested in Roberts. I'm not sure whether or not they were willing to take him in the main draft though but from what I knew at the time it was either there or first pick in the rookie draft.

WCE wanted at least one of the top rated talls in the draft and went the most athletic available with our second round pick. Archer has a few question marks on his game but will be interesting to see how he develops.

With the free agents and trades the plan was to only take 3 live picks in the main draft.

There are a lot of other points which i've mentioned privately to 1-2 people but Vozzo and myself ended up having to playing damage control and then getting roasted over the coals by a board member and sheedy, told to know our place and that as a club legend it was Dodoro's show.

I am genuinely of the opinion that particularly after being made to look the fool through the trade period and others having to step in come the draft he wanted to make a show and that I was just temporary and that as he was walking away Craig could basically go **** himself.

I hated Essendon going in but as i've stepped away and am not going back to any club for any consideration I don't mind saying that Essendon were an absolute shitfight whilst Carlton were well organised, knew what they wanted in regards to types of players and then let the process play out. Carlton really had their shit together from top to bottom whereas Essendon basically pissed 70k down the drain and almost all my time there was wasted.

Sounds very Essendon-like.

May it continue forever.

It’s pretty simple

How can one trade be accepted and another is not.

Either let it all happen or reject them all. It’s the same for priority picks you can’t give club x package and then in the same circumstance not give the same package.

But maybe it’s better for you to comprehend this, back to your own board.

Time to call up Eddie and start the priority pick campaign. All we ask for is top 5 pp this year and we will not come back for next five years. And we can guarantee we will rise within the next 6

Now that you’re all said and done. Did you ever post on here about certain potential draftees, trying to lower their value, so your employee club could potentially get him cheaper?

I know some people on BF have made their mind up about you. Personally, I take some things you say with a grain of salt, although you do have some good insights.

I’m probably just more interested in how deep clubs are playing the drafting game and trying to get one up on others, such as having people talk quite poorly about draftees online, only to then draft them a few months later.

Yep, 100% BigFooty is where all the heavy research is done by recruiters. Now if you don't mind, I'm off to influence the stock market by shit-talking Atlassian.
