Will be absolutely tasty along with

Hough's 15 touches a game
Graham's 19 touches a game
Hewetts 16 touches a game
Kelly's 17 touches a game
Harley's 18 touches a game

Has there ever been a midfield that's never had a midfielder average 20 disposals in a season before?

Having no ruck will do that!

Unironically, I'd rather we throw money at Dev, Tsatas, Tylar Young, Davies, Flanders, Neale, Steele... the list goes on.

Starcevich would be almost last on my list.

We're possibly throwing out offers to everyone...
As we should be to short-term improve the list since we have the excess cap space.

Starcevich maybe the only bite.

You are actually 100% correct.

Every single person in the AFL community knew Owies was out the door with the Blues and had no Contract as well.

Not the first time we've done something that stupid either.

Remember we "held all the cards" with Brockman?

  • Out of contract
  • Has a missus with twin girls
  • Had already moved back to Perth.

And yet our club bizarrely felt the need to to gift them pick 44 and 63 when they deserved absolutely **** all.

Imagine those flogs knocking back 44 and milking pick 63 off us like some tin rattlers. Which turned into 56 and Calsher Dear from memory.
You’re not seeing the big picture. Yes we could’ve kept pick 44 and 63, and yes there were players still available like Joel Freijah, Joe Fonti, Zakostelsky, Calsher Dear and Lawson Humphries, or could’ve opened up other trades for us. And YES by unnecessarily giving those picks to Hawthorn, who at the time were down the bottom of the ladder like us, we help them improve faster and disadvantage our own rebuild.

BUT while others are focused on the picks and players, we are playing 4D chess by acting in GOOD FAITH and fostering an unbreakable trade relationship with the Hawks. From that day forward we knew for a FACT that by being good blokes to them, we had an ally that would NEVER poach our vice captain and full back the next year, or target our captain and full forward a few months after that, publicly leaking the details leading to further humiliation and destabilization for our club, or relentlessly go after our number 1 pick, best player and only shining light for the future.

Not our mates the Hawks. Not our former player and premiership midfield coach Mitch, they would never. The Hawks have our backs no matter what.

Anyway, welcome Butler, Hustwaite and any other Hoks we can shake loose plus dangle some money at all their good players just to rock the boat. Bunch of *****

I understand we have to pay overs to lure guys here but 6 years on 900K for Brandon Starcevich is insane, I can’t stand this regime, every move they’ve made reeks of desperation.

6 years for a guy who just recently missed months due to multiple concussions in a short time frame.

You’d think there would a games trigger on that but if it’s 6years x $900k….Wow

That’s band 1 territory (if it was available to them) for someone who should be no where near that pay grade. Weird time for the leaks

To be fair, expect Hewett and Harley will push up to, and hopefully over 20 touches with another preseason. Kelly should also get back there if he bothers to try like he did in the back end of the season.

Jeez that’s grim. I know Mini’s game plan is to move the ball fast and direct, but there is just no one that can accumulate the footy in the midfield. Precisely why I would’ve settled for Brodie or Fiorini as guys with flaws but come free and at least rack up the pill. Also why Simpkin or Flanders would be perfect for us, despite some posters bizarrely thinking we are above recruiting such players. Hoping we can still land a veteran mid like Steele or Neale that doesn’t cost too much and brings leadership.

Sad thing is the club won’t have the courage to do anything but give up pick 19 for Starcevich and then not bid on Annable.

We are too weak to do the obvious
“Had to honour our commitment”

We’re 100% bending over at the trade table because he’s our only target.

Hopefully we get the compo pick to trade for him so it’s a bit of a nothing trade from our end anyway.

Wrong, He's only had one concussion.

Good luck with that

I hope we walk him to the psd and the money is the incentive. Not happening though
Best thing for everyone is if the afl give us a free agency exemption. That would mean the ball is in Brisbane's court to match or not .

My feeling is they have already spent the money that would be required to retain starcivich.

If anything the free agency exemption should be allowed for any team in the bottom meeting certain criteria like .

  • Finishing position
  • games won over 3 year period
  • % over 3 year period .

Losing a player of quality to the not be able to use that money without giving up significant trade capital is keeping bottom teams down in a perpetual cycle of losing senior players to then add draftees .
