*Rowell had one of, if not the best seasons ever as a top age junior so it's hard to measure up. So if anyone is taking a 1D inside mid then its a very easy comparison about how they will go at AFL.

Sharp gets 20 disposals - Rowell gets 40.
Sharp gets 4 tackles - Rowell gets 8
Sharp kicks 1 goal - Rowell kicks 2

Also as a junior Rowell had a great ability to push off opponents and create space for himself around the contest and to steady. Sharp doesn't really do that despite being "a big body" & tends to get more footy uncontested.

Even with the quality changing year on year he's just not top 10 quality in my eyes. (Though he might squeeze into the top 10 this year🤷) Also keeping in mind the draft isn't a list of best -> worst as "the local factor" is huge.
Do you have a top 10 ranking of this draft class right now? Curious to see who you have over Sharp.

Sample size of last 3 weeks, who has had the better period?
McVee has spent a small amount of time rotating through the midfield with the new interim coach in 2 games WB & COLL and has had a really solid patch, ave 17d, 5 cl.
Davies has been the 4th mid and ave 15d, 5cl.
Interesting 2 players who would make our team better imo.

We need inside mids and we don’t need HBFs would be the way I look at it. Now that we know (bar a Saints catastrophe) Port’s pick is 7 the first move of trade week should be Hawks picks plus our 2R for pick 7 and Davies off GCS.

Jamieson just isn’t a ruck though. Doesn’t have the heart to compete.

If that’s what we wanted we’d be better off grabbing a mature age recruit from the WAFL or VFL or SANFL
Competitiveness is a weird one. When you're gassed you look laconic.
There's no point grabbing an inferior fill in at this time & those that are actually good & still developing has been fished out already.

I tend to agree and that would be a decent trade.

I also think the last few weeks that Chaplin has used McVee as a mid for short patches, was even on N Daicos for a short time tonight and has showed some other attributes to his game.
Decent player if available at the right price.

I fear that we would end up in another Hough midfield experiment with McVee where he's alright but not good enough to really be the guy we need.

My view is we pick midfielders to play in the midfield, I know you’re a fan of McVee and fair enough but just not the player we should be spending capital on IMO.

That was meant to be Barnett, I had just woken up from a nap. The point remains though, for both.

To be these elite footballers you (usually) have to want it more than almost anyone. That absolute drive and mental desire to win out above all else.

I don’t think Barnett has that or will ever have that.

Maybe we don’t need to fill that spot given how we have Archer Reid now, but I was using it in reply to an earlier comment saying that they’d rather keep Barnett on the list as a spare ruck.

Yep. We should do that.

We have the cap space.
I would cut Owies too and pay him out.

Sounds a bit cut throat. But he has been woeful this year and even if he was playing well he is not the type of small forward we need. We need a defensive small forward who can help lock the ball in, have the disposals be under pressure if it is going out and crumb a few goals as oppose to mark/set shot type of small forward who doesn't apply pressure but is good overhead.

No point keeping him just because he has a contract if we are not going to play him and because we don't admit we made a bad call recruiting him.

100%. Hough is an ordinary mid, a fantastic defender. He should be played back.

McCarthy may end up the same. Though has shown more as a midfielder so may make it.

We do not need more half backs who can play midfield. That’s just asking to be bog ordinary.

Yeah the club is going to go from playing him at every opportunity to cutting him with 2 years left on his contract. Sounds like something that is realistic .
A idea could be to put him in for finger surgery after Round 11 every year. Get us that sweet sweet MSD pick

I still think as much as it will hurt the feelings of those draft watchers we bail at pick 20 in this draft by taking 4 picks and then pre listing our academy players as a extended Cat B rookie list. Its the best path forward for us overall from this draft. I cant think of anyone id want after pick 20 besides what we have in the academy players . Maybe Fred Rodriguez and thats it

What happens when no midfielders want to join? Arguably its a situation we could end up in. We are much better picking up your Starcevich and McVee and giving it a shot knowing you got a AFL player in any case then taking well no one.

In my view if we take McVee and play him in the midfield its a better option then taking pick 60 in the draft for a midfielder but also its a sign of incredible weakness by our recruiting team. If these guys cant convince any midfielder to come they should sack themselves

If we end up with four picks inside 20 why would it hurt anyone’s feelings? That means we’ve probably done some fantastic trading and likely hold 2,5,6,7.

It is a shallow draft but there’s some good list fits for us with later picks. Ainsworth would be a great acquisition with a pick after our 2R. LeRay probably won’t go 1R but would be a useful addition if available later for a wing. Cody Curtin will be available, we may look at Taj Murray. Still big on Stumpf and Knobel too if they nominate for the ND.
