This time last year in this thread we swore black and blue Baker was okay but didn’t make us any better and Jack Graham is a plodder.

Baker is borderline a grade, a minus maybe but still very good. Graham has been, poor judgement suspension asides, one of our few decent and consistent senior players.

Sorry lads. I have a great deal of time for almost all of you and I’d have a beer/ ciders/ diet coke with pretty much all of you, but saying Dev Rob doesn’t improve our base or even our lower middle core players is off the mark. We just don’t have enough of those middle fodder.

No, he’s not Lachie Neale. He’s not Neil Erasmus. He’s not Sam Butler (original or Hawthorn editions). He’s probably in the same realm as Jack Graham, solid, hardworking but limited.

I’ll take him even now in a heart beat.

You make a loint but those two tigers boys were proven players and premiership players. Devs yet to do so.

That said on the very cheap he at least brings a season body into the midfield to help our youngsters

Agreed.

Worth a shot and hopefully can be our first touch mid that can feed a bit of ball out and also stick his tackles in there.

It still doesn’t sit great with me that by the sounds of it he pretty much committed to us to then change his mind late and left us scrambling a little. We then just go down that path 2 years later but in our current position we can’t be too fussy.

He will have options though imo, teams that miss on Windhager might pivot to Dev. Not sure he is best 23 anywhere else but he might Dev himself again.

Will he make it? Who knows and will cost us nothing besides a list spot to find out and is ready made if he does.

Yeah but if you make me drink diet coke I'll fight you.

TBF, Jack Graham is a dual premiership player, has played nearly 150 games and is a runner up in a B&F.

Think you're underselling Graham and overselling Dev TBH.
I haven't seen all of his games, but I've never seen Dev play a good one.

I appreciate the point you are making, but Dev is nowhere near the proven commodity Baker or Graham were. He's not best 23 and never really has been in his career.
Most had expected Baker would add significant value to our 23, but were worried about the cost, which proved justified imo, even after he won our BNF. One could make the argument they didn't improve us in the sense they didn't "move the needle" enough to see us win more games.

Pepsi Max is the best drink on Earth, Yakult second
Monster Ultra Zero is the best sugar free soft drink I've ever had. It's best if put in the freezer for 30-40 minutes first though as chilled tastes better than fridge temperature.

Back on topic, I was talking to some non Eagles supporters at work and they seemed to have a much higher opinion on Dev than most here do, that's for sure.

I think a lot of it is people upset he jilted us 2 years ago. He’s missed out because he hasn’t been able to break into the Brisbane midfield, which is stacked. I don’t see how rolling the dice on him and actually giving him games would be bad for us?

Who would he be stopping from getting a game? Cole? Newton? Duggan? Brockmann? Davis? …

I think supporters have to accept the improvements will be incremental at first. Like a snowball down a hill - starts off slow but gathers speed.
There is no doubt Baker & Graham improved WC. There were several games this year WC could/would have won with some more experience on the park that were sitting injured or retired on the pine.

Wild comparing Dev to Graham or Baker.

An older Tyler Brockman is probably a better comparison. Did nothing at Hawthorn and squeezed out by better players, and we're hoping he comes good for us. Dev would be the same.
