After the re-signings announced yesterday, five players remain uncontracted:

• Allen and Chesser have announced their intentions to depart
• Cripps has reportedly been offered a new contract but no announcement yet
• Champion and Livingstone (both Cat B rookies) are in limbo, presumably waiting on the AFL’s decision on draft assistance/additional list spots. It’s expected Champion will be given a new contract but Livingstone’s status is unclear

Many people, myself included, thought that Barnett might be delisted and paid out with a year to run on his contract. That seems unlikely now as you’d think he would have been informed to allow him to find another club although he’s still a candidate to be delisted and added back to the rookie list to open up a senior list spot if necessary

My nephew caught up with Malakai last week for a beer (junior footy team mates) and he told my nephew he’d signed a 1 year deal. Not sure why it’s not been announced yet

Hope we can find a way to get an extra top 10 pick by splitting pick 2. Makes me less worried that we'll take CDT. Hopefully other teams will bid on Annable, Uwland & Patterson before our next pick. We probably won't have the guts to.

Other than when we moved 2 places by ponying up pick 40 and F3 (44) to get Richmonds pick 38 to use on Clay Hall.


Seems to me we love love LOVE, trading down and banking other picks though.

For that reason i'm not expecting us to target Fold Coasts pick 7, or Carltons TDK compo. Doesn't seem like our style.

We usually bank on two lesser rated talents ending up a better deal than one higher ranked talent. It's probably worked once the same way grabbing a HBF and turning them into a midfielder worked once with Yeo, but we keep trying!

If we are just going to take CDT at 2 who many people don't seem keen on then shouldn't we just trade it and try and get a 2 for 1 type of deal. Seems like the top 10 is pretty even so think we would still end up with a couple of good players.

Starcevich is played as a lock down defender. He is directed to spoil or affect the contest, not rack up possessions. It's a sacrificial role for the team and these types of roles/players very rarely get much love or attention outside their own club.

Perfect example would be how we all felt about Hough when he was shutting down the comps best smalls even though no one else seemed to notice.

He is a better kick than Cole and much faster. He has served a role for Lions and they do not want to lose him however he has attributes that could see him play other roles. HBF or wing for instance.

Worse case scenario we get an incredibly good defender but i have a good feeling there is more to Brandon than Brisbane have been using him for.

This is true, but depending on what happens with Chesser and Ryan and PPs we'll have 2nd and 3rd rounders to burn and not a heap of list spots (weirdly for a 1 win side)

We seem in a pretty good spot to at least attempt it this year

The club is definitely trying to phase him out. Happy it's only a 1 year extension. Once he's no longer an automatic selection and spending time in the WAFL, his time will be up.

I think both Richmond & Essendon having multiple picks will work well for us if we wanted to downgrade. If Essendon really want a player that they know Richmond want and will most likely take they will come to us with a good deal to jump ahead. Yeah somewhere around 20.
Dovaston, NHH, Barker, Poo around that mark. Would love a good small forward. Or even better use it to trade up to take who we want

Watching some of the Tigers draft videos I think they’ll want Sharp if we split with Essendon. They need to replace Hopper and Taranto and after all the talls they took last year I think they go mid.
If we split with the Dons I’m worried we go CDT anyway.
Then Dons take Duursma, Tigers Sharp and Cumming. Then who do we take?

Sometimes the club waits for a new contract to be ratified by the AFL before making an official announcement

There had been a couple of media reports that he was going to be given a new contract but no confirmation from the club as yet

Glad he’s signed on for another year - showed a bit this season and definitely something to work with
