FWIW I know that he has said no to one of the other teams chasing him with the expectation that it's because he has chosen us.

That’s because everyone else wiki’d his name and figure out they had enough midfielders.

Wonder if we did same thing….will be a surprise on day 1 of preseason. BBMWHBLF.

Underrated get.

All i'm hearing is it sounds like Clarke is about to 'MAKE A COMMITMENTTM' to Tyler :eyes:

For real though, is he even any good? Another ex Tiger potentially added to the club.

Seems he played his highest rated game at the time against... you guessed it West Coast Eagles.

Similar to Owies playing out of his skin with a blue moon game vs us and our recruitment team instantly falling in love.

Regarding what we might give in a trade for Starcevich, I have heard numerous commentators say an end-of-first-round pick is what the West Coast should offer. That does not make sense to me.

Pick 19 would be the same as giving Band 1 compo to Brisbane, which is more than the AFL would give them as a compo pick, given that bringing in Allen and Draper dilutes any compo the AFL would give them.

The maximum West Coast should offer Brisbane is what the AFL would give them as free-agent compensation. Anything more would be gifting Brisbane a pick better than their compo for Starcevich would have been, which is silly.

X Taylor is a rebounding defender who can play tall, he’s not a KPD and neither was Tauru and also have to remember this is rankings and not a phantom draft. The modern game sees higher value on HBFs like Taylor, who can also push further up the ground which Richmond will love.

I think Cumming goes higher but I do think Lindsay (one dimensional) and Greeves (poor defensive game, slow on spread) will have limitations at AFL level.

If the draft does pan out like this, 5,6 is an absolute sweet spot IMO.
This doesn't translate to the draft, though. This is where Rookie Me Central get it wrong. For the same reason, they had Lindsay at 3 and Sharp at 15.

I watched quite a bit of the Champs. At no stage was I thinking, "Taylor is winning them this game", "Taylor is keeping them in it". He didn't do f-all. Didn't even make the AA side.

- He's not a KPD, but plays HBF. Where have we heard that before? He's playing HBF because he's not god enough for the midfield. Surely, a top 5 pick gets spent on a top tier midfielder, and if he can't make it, he turns into an attacking HBF. Surely you take the better player first?

- Muscle first. Only a small number of players can cut it at AFL level in the midfield. You build the midfield first. The excess (players who can't cut it) pivot into flankers. When you move back in the draft order, you choose this type of player if they are still needed.

These guys have become more important, no doubt. As have outside transition players like Gulden. It doesn't mean clubs have to start spending top 5 picks on them. These guys at Rookie Me Central think they are way smarter than they are. I bet they are smug campaigners.

Watch the CTL final and you’ll see what he brings.

I’m not disputing taking mids with top picks but when you draft like Richmond did last year and how they value HBFs that can push up the ground it wouldn’t surprise, like the Saints did with Travaglia.

Richmond thought they won that draft. They blew it, IMO. Travalia went at 8 - after all the top tier mids were gone.

I'd say the top tier mids this year are Sharp, Robey, Cumming, Greeves. At a stretch he'll go in front of Greeves.

M Reid and X Lindsay were both available as outstanding mids.

I’d add Cumming and remove Greeves to your list but I think XT will go before both of them.

Is Hamish Free worth one of our extra rookie spots, played well in WAFL grand final, could be cheap ruck option and is good age 27 ?

The guys from Rookie me Central are frauds. They don't know their arses from the elbows.

1. Durrsma
2. CDT
3. Xavier Taylor
4. Robey
5. Sharp
10. Cumming
11. Lindsay
12. Greeves

  • No one is taking a KPD at 3. North were in dire need of a KPD and still didn't take Tauru.
  • They have Harry Dean at #7. If they don't call out Daicos, Ashcroft etc at #1, no club is calling Dean out at #7
  • Cumming, Lindsay, and Greeves all should go higher. Maybe one of them blows out.

Maybe they jag one thing they say, but they have an awful lot of improbabilities.
This is a draft power ranking, not phantom draft.
Significant difference - wait until Cal Twomey's phantom draft comes out and you will see more likely draft positions.

Tom Blamires just on trade radio. Just won the Fothergill medal for best young player in the VFL. 23yo, improved massively since moving to Frankston. The last 18 medalists have joined AFL clubs, so it's likely he'll end up somewhere. Said he'd love to go to Perth and is mates with Tom McCarthy.

Could certainly be worth one of those extra rookie spots.

How is a a guy who is playing on the HBF because he's not good enough for the midfield better than the guys who were chosen in the midfield ahead of him?

Watchoo talkin' bout, Willis?

Look mate, I don't really want to argue with a stranger on the internet at 9am on a Monday morning.
I personally think that Sharp should be higher too - but the Rookie Me Central guys are pretty good at what they do.

Here is a response they gave about Sharp earlier in the year.

It should be noted that these comments came before SA won the carnival, before Sharp won the MVP medal, and before he had solidified in his position in the League team

Exactly the type WCE would like at the start of the rookie draft but also exactly the type that Geelong will pick up late in the ND......
