Tough break for the kid - has minor surgery in February and is already getting written off for the entire year.

But a season-ending ACL injury to defender Andy Moniz-Wakefield a day later left the Demons short a player on their list, with the AFL expected to allow them to sign Culley as a replacement.

Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb said they were excited to welcome Culley to the club.

“We have followed Jai closely, both before and after he was drafted to West Coast. We were thrilled to secure his services at Casey for the upcoming VFL season after his time at the Eagles finished at the end of 2024,” Lamb said.

“In his time with us, training with Casey and in match simulations with our AFL program, Jai has been super impressive and shown enough to suggest he thoroughly deserves a spot on our AFL list. He is still young at 22 years of age, and we feel he has a lot of growth in all areas of his game.

Likely we were going to add Henderson to the list and then Melbourne swooped. Not enough time to get another player over for a train on spot.

So mid-season draft now more likely
If you compare it to the national draft, rookie draft & the MSD, you don't need the player over to train with you first.
Obviously the benefit is seeing how a player tracks at state league level for half a year, but there's possibility the player you're interested will be drafted by another team.
We can just treat it like the other drafts including the MSD and just bring in a player that's never trained with us before.
If the player agrees to sign up, then why not?
Perhaps there is literally noone we are interested in atm, or we can't be bothered looking.

Beep didn’t put a time on it. Injury report released tonight or tomorrow.

Did have a quick slip up and said back half of the season but then said when he’s back. So see what they come up with in the injury report.

Another one down who wasn’t best 23 but would’ve been decent at WAFL level.

Gross could be good to go but see how he goes today at training. Sounded like the WAFL might have a bit of a trial this weekend or at least a training run.

Phil, Can you give us some insight into why we didn't grab Nic Martin when we could have? What was the knock on his game that made our recruiting staff give him the fend off?

He got injured right at the start of his train-on period(leg) and was trialed in the forward line before the injury.

It's been described as minor surgery.

Hopefully not too long. He'd be playing in the two's anyway. He hasn't had a good run with it this preseason.
Yea if he's out to start anyway get yourself sorted so you have the best opportunity to push you case. Do a mini preseason from round 2-3, play WAFL for 6 weeks push your case when we need to rest some players needing a break before the bye.

Axel Walsh comfortably the most exciting 2027 prospect of that group (not NGA). Angus Abbonizio also a fantastic prospect but believe he’s leaning toward cricket.

Allan and Baker, eh? Sure you can't find us a Reid?

“I am confident, I know he (Reid) loves it, he’s a great teammate, I am really confident he will stay,” Duggan said.

Not sure how much it means, but Duggo pretty confident on Harley and Oscar staying

Reading the quotes suggests he’s more bullish on Harley signing than Oscar (ever so slightly) which sounds unfathomable just 15 months ago.

Has Chad indicated that he is leaning towards either team, or he doesn't care?
If he leaves he won’t indicate until end of Swannies season.

It’s just speculation with Kossie linked so heavily with Freo that it will be near impossible to get Chad on top with trade assets.

Dees president has publicly stated 3 first for Kossi.

Chad might be back on for Freo because they ain’t paying that price

Everyone's always talking tough when the trade period's like 9 months away, but then when it comes to nut cutting time and a player says they wanna go to team x, 99% of the time the deal gets done.

I wouldn't take this stuff as gospel but I'm pretty sure I heard from Gossage or whoever on SENWA a week ago that Warner wants to play with Harley and Harley wants to play with Warner. If that's the case and we got the picks and the money to pull it off then it'll most likely get done.

Breakdown from Twomey on a lot of the father/son and academy prospects for this year

wait, what happened to the word being "complicated"
or is that the difference between the food stamps picks and the F/S's?
