I guess i was more referring to a solid replacement as opposed to depth.

At this stage I'd prob take the compensation pick from Oscar but I think Archer is a long long way from being a main stay.

I think between Waterman, jwilliams, and archer/shanahan we have it covered.
Game is becoming more about the small forwards these days anyway, as long as you have competent KPFs who can make a contest you'll be alright.
We at the very least have that

I just saw a North fan on Twitter say this is the most excited they've been heading into a season for five years. We've sucked ass going on four years now and this is the first year we're actually starting the rebuild process...let that shit sink in, gents.

Deal must be close to being done if papers are all reporting who offered what. First it was Brisbane, now it’s hawks.

Thinking why not north? Or Sydney? Perhaps that’s to come.

100% there will be more linked if he remains uncontracted. He would have a shit manager if there wasn’t. Gotta put the pressure on the Eagles list team if he wants to stay.

i think West Coast should wait until the bye before finalising a new contract offer.
If Oscar hasn't played 8-10 games by then because of injury and kicked 20-25 goals then we should trade him whilst he still has some trade capital. At this stage a suitable suitor would be Richmond who loaded up on young talent at the draft and could do with a experienced player like Oscar, plus we would get their first draft pick. Wouldn't that give us a strong hand in the draft. We could get both Curtin and Fred.

The pressure is being exerted by his management who want to extend his contract before he breaks down again and has no value and their 20% cut is worthless.

Ten years for Oscar Allen isn’t dodgy, it’s reckless

Even 6 years for him would be a risk, albeit an acceptable one

We’d be mad to match a contract of that length
Why not trade him to Richmond for their No 1 draft pick ?

Ward and Sheldrick.
Hey Phil, if a players career is cut short thru injury is he paid out the balance of his contract ?
If so can clubs take out insurance to protect them selves from that happening.

Oscar Allen is a FA, albeit a restricted one meaning we can match any offer to force a trade. That said, if we match he likely stays

So there won’t be a trade - it’ll be FA compensation and it’ll be band 1 so the pick after our R1 pick which is probably a top 5 pick

It means that if we do lose Oscar we’ll be adequately compensated which puts us in a good position. I’m sure the clubs preference (and Oscar’s) would be that he stays but a likely top 5 pick coming our way if he leaves means we don’t need to be reckless in what contract we offer

I’m not so sure the club wants him to stay. I’ve heard a few conflicting stories. One is that we haven’t offered him a deal, or the one we have offered was only 3 years.

While I can see this may be the case - it begs the question why didd the club see him retaining joint captaincy?

I would personally be going all in depending on club results. Look to add Warner for balanced goal kicking mid, Sharp for inside and trying to get Sheldrick as well for inside. His defensive game has improved and I see him as a nugget who will keep improving.

I'd also be in the ear of Josh Ward if he's struggling for a spot at the Hawks, I really rate him. I'd happily go all 4 firsts and both seconds to make this happen.

Warner, Ward, Sheldrick as well as Sharp or Greeves. Short term and long term needs in the midfield covered. We need our young KPD's to come on and then you're just topping up talent and for needs in the future. Trade for a ruck when one is available or when the club thinks it's ready to challenge. So in my mind in the above scenario i'd be looking at trading 2 second rounders at end of 2027 for a ruck to be ready for a shot from 2028 onwards all things going reasonably to plan.
Following on from the discussion about what WC needs are and about going all in for 2025-26 in the draft and trade.
Found this and looks like 2027 draft year WC have no FS/NGA's.
Might not be complete?

That’s Haggas ’s 2027 draft early rankings and is obviously just where he sees it at the moment. I’ve been saying for a little while how Abbonizio and Walsh rate highly but as far as I know we don’t have any 2027 NGAs who could be considered in the top 50. ROYAL EAGLE might be able to provide a couple of names to keep an eye on though. Haggas posts a lot of good info for the future drafts in their relevant threads if you were looking for to keep an eye on the future with respect to the implications of trading future picks.

Lol it's for 2027, that list will look wildly different next year let alone at the end of '27.

These long-term deals are going to kill the competition. They're encouraging teams to take huge risks... when they pay off, the club becomes a powerhouse... and if they go bust, they become a laughing stock. I feel like one of the strengths of the AFL is equalisation measures keep the competition moderately fair and balanced. But allowing clubs to take huge risks is going exacerbate the boom-bust cycles.

doubt oscar will leave, standard from player management to shop him around and boost his stocks

same happened with Waterman last year

Waterman has paid well unders given his uptick in form in 2024.

Waterman was OOC in 2023, we wanted to give him 2x400 or something, ended up signing 3x450+ incentives or something like that.

Then he kicks 50+ and plays like Plugger.

He had every right to request we renegotiate his deal.

Oscar has less solid ground to stand on given he's been on good money since 2021, hasn't been on the park much since 2022, and has durability concerns.

Apples and Oranges.
