I don’t like it but if you offer 3 to yeo and 4 to Duggan, 6 to Allen doesn’t seem outside of the scope of our contracts team regular business.

Where’s old mate Clarke on these? I thought he was very good with contracts?
"12"

- Skid Mark Clarke

Shit himself in the Baker deal.

Oscar was coming off a Larke medal in U18s and was the emergency for our premiership team in his first year playing as a utility.

Reid was injured half his first year and didn't debut and Shanahan hasn't played wafl.

Give credit where it's due
Oscar was an emergency because our BnF winning KPD had just retired two weeks earlier after debilitating foot issues, our back up KPD was already in the team covering our hybrid small/tall and our CHB was under a massive injury cloud.

Oscars competition for emergency was Jarrod Brander. It's not that Oscar had been impressive in his first year, it's literally that there was almost nobody else. It's really not that impressive.

I've done this before, but Oscar and Archer actually have very similar WAFL stats in their first year as AFL players. Oscar started down in defence, but Archer was playing in a far superior team.

Archer regularly hits the scoreboard and had 7 shots on goal in a team that ended up winning it's fourth consecutive wooden spoon.

I totally believe that Archer is tracking ahead of Oscar at similar point in time, and Shanahan is far less clear but passes the eye test, given we haven't seen him in a true match yet at AFL/WAFL level.

Archer moves well and looks good at this stage, but I wouldn't be walking Oscar out the door necessarily.

Archer's ball drop looks borderline f*cked at this stage and he needs to call up Sam Darcy and get his kicking coach. Looks to be a good ruck/KPD prospect IMO

I think pressure wise in the first half, he was good, the effort was there but he was utterly pathetic in the second half and it left a bad taste in my mouth that he wasn’t rucking after Williams and Reid went down and we instead sent Ginbey in there.

Oscar could’ve got himself involved in the game like Naughton did against the Pies by going into the ruck and delivering a captains performance but instead he was no where to be sighted. Multiple times he was one on one with Jack Payne and he couldn’t even halve the contest either.

Lazy might be harsh but every time I go to games it’s noticeable how hard Waterman works for his opportunities whilst Allen seems to just hope they fall into his lap.

The guy was playing sore and or injured on the weekend in a big way. Tbh it was a good effort he fought through it as best he could..

Lol, but how are you guys still peddling that excuse for him and then think it’s a great idea to hand him a long term contract? It’s round two and he’s already sore after missing most of last year… reportedly has a degenerative knee condition as well.

The main reason he was sore after halftime was his mistimed marking attempt in the second quarter and either just before or after that on the wing he got macheted in another marking contest where his body bent in a pretty unusual way…

Was on the broadcast side of the ground

Would be a shame if Warner re-signs, he was well and truly on the hook too. Getting a young superstar like him would've been amazing for this group

Bit unlike Cal but what most are thinking

Good. We need a couple more years of drafts before we trade away another two first rounders for an 'A grade mid' Don't care if it costs us Harley, Harley will give us another 3 firsts to add to the team that'll be waiting for Warner in two years.

It would've been Tim Kelly all over again if he came here now.

In terms of the Harley retention, yes big tick. But if Harley left anyway after we cough up the picks, it's disaster town.

Think he'll be well and truly on the radar for two years at no cost of draft picks. Gives us a couple of years to build the foundation to welcome him.

It’s weird if he has made his decision he just doesn’t recommit to it now. Would take away a lot of all this noise.

100% was on the hook.

One last see if the Eagles or Freo up their offer? Wait until after the bye to announce it?

He should be a free agent by then

I called this happening last year, and honestly im glad for it.

Warner is a great player, but like TK he is "cream" player who does his best work when others are shouldering the midfield load equally and presenting threats. We currently dont have that.

Either wave some cash at another established in-and-under mid who can help mentor the young guys, or go to the draft and clean it out. The club needs to stop dicking around on our needs in the middle and grab some guys who can shoulder the load. If one of those ends up being a "big name" then more power to them.

Warner is nothing like Kelly. He has 3 full years of exposed form by age 23. Mills and Gulden are out, Heeney plays forward and he still performs. "Geelong's best mid" Kelly copped a tag from Matt De Boer once and couldn't get a touch.

I'd love to add Warner but also scared of the horrendous overpay the club would agree to. I would much rather we follow that Hawthorn have done in recent years. Use the early picks you have access to, look for value propositions with later picks and at other clubs, then invest cap space and draft assets in ready made players once you are competitive.

The silly thing is that Warner is just as gettable if we finish bottom 4 as if we make the 8. It's not the NBA.
